I decided to start shopping last October as my '11 Denali had 68k on it. Knew i was going on a 5000+ mi trip in November.

GM had sent out bonus incentives for my GM business card, and red tag savings were on lots of trucks. Did all my shopping on the phone, there were no 6.2 trucks left for '16 models. Found a Denali but was not really what I wanted, salesman asks what I really want took him a week but found me a tagged '17 6.2 maxtow and offered me $3000 more than any other dealer had for my trade.

They drove 3hr to get the truck and i was just shy of $10,000 off on a '17 at start of model year, and $30,700 for my '11 trade that I owned.

14,100mi on my '17 now and couldn't be happier

I was actually heart set on the F150 Platinum EcoBoost in pearl white. Had all the features I was looking for. Test drove a few and they had a hesitation when accelerating from a stop. Did more research and talked myself out of it for uncertainty of the longevity of the turbo's as I do haul a boat around and we're looking for a 27+ foot baja/formula and found out that towing with the ecoboost sucks on gas. Showed up at the GMC dealership to look at a brown GMC sierra and was a heavy smokers prior. When we came back from the test drive, there was a white diamond that just got traded in from lease white we were out and walked away with it.

In hindsight, I should have done more research on the truck. Don't get me wrong, it's absolutely beautiful but more problems than I'd ever like to go into. I've put 27,000 miles on it in 2 years and been in the dealership over 70 days the first year and this year its drastically down to only 15...

After having horrible experiences at dealerships around the Madison area, going to be buying from Carmax with warranty. Bought my mercedes from there and treated me very well, and just bought my wifes Jeep Grand Cherokee from there with full warranty to 125k miles and already used it and have been treated the way I expect.

With their Carmax30 day warranty with every sale, IF I had bought my truck from them, I would have returned it. My first 30 days with the truck, 18 of them was in the dealership getting fixed...

A buddy of mine wanted to buy my low mile 2011 z/71, so I said let me go to the local dealer & see what a fair price for it would be. Sold it to him that day & brought home a new 14 z/71 beautifull truck! Anyway fast forward a year later & we buy a heavy a** 33' TT. Camper dealer said your 1/2 ton will pull it fine yea right! (put the cart before the horse) Long story short traded the 14 it in on a new 15 2500 HD. local dealer could not find one so did a search on my own & found one 2 states away,, out state dealer was awesome finding this one another 2 states away. When we pulled in for the trade it was the same exact truck only it was a 2500, all is good now!. Trading the TT off was out of the question, have to keep the wife happy. Love the 2500 pulling back & forth from MI to Fl every year.

Pics. in my gallery you will see why I had to get the HD.

There's a dealer within walking distance of my house, so I had been looking to go from a Double Cab to a Crew Cab for the extra room. When I bought my '14 1500 I had dealt with a great salesperson (he was newer but was attentive and did good). I emailed him and the finance manager, said I wanted to trade up. Set up an appointment for a week away. During that time I went on the lot when they were closed and looked around. Found two trucks I liked. Came in for the appt, both the Red and Black 17 were still there.

Sat down, said this was where I was looking to be on my payments (which was reasonable; I wasn't asking for $250 a month on a $50K truck). Liked the Red a little more, but the black had 18's, running boards and was a V8 for a little more. Shook hands, and finalized the deal. Started at 9am and was back home walking the dog by 11:30. It took longer to get my insurance company on the phone than to finish in the finance office. They even took over transferring my special plates, no questions asked. I didn't even test drive it - this dealer demands you do so, so they can ensure you're happy. I said it's just got a bigger back seat, so no need :)

If you do your research and are prepared, buying from almost any large dealer is not hard. In fact the general manager called me after I gave the sales survey to thank me for the comments. Those surveys go a very very long way in dictating not only perks to the salesperson, but also factor into incentives the dealership gets from the mfgr. They have a customer for life.

I bought mine without test driving it. It was under a recall so legally I couldn't drive it. I started it in the parking lot and traded in my 2012 Tacoma for it. After a week from the purchase date I picked it up and am happy so far. It was at Jones Chevrolet in Humboldt Tennessee. Nothing but good reviews of the dealership.

Dealerships are a necessary evil and I spend as little time there as possible - usually just to pick the vehicle up. Figure out what you want and put it out for bids. Brook no nonsense.

I loved my 03 Silverado 2500HD but I really got the itch for a new truck last year. I knew I wanted a 2014 or newer. The wife and I went to a couple dealers and looked at and drove a Sierra at Laura Buick GMC and a Silverado at another local dealer. Both were brand new and we loved both trucks but neither dealer was willing to give me a good enough trade in for me to pull the trigger.

I decided to wait but was constantly watching truck prices, new and used. In the meantime our daughter was born and I pretty much decided I was going to settle on a lightly used crew cab. By waiting I also had even more equity in my current truck. Fast forward to February 2017 and just for kicks I got on Laura's website and couldn't believe the deal they were running on their double cabs. I talked to the wife and decided we would go take the little one and try out the carseat in the double cab.

Needless to say we took the truck home the next day. We got a brand new truck for the price of a used one and 2017 model year on top of it. I love the truck and my experience with the dealer. My only regret was not just buying one already leveled/lifted but it wouldn't have been near as good a deal as we got. That regret is no longer as I got my leveling kit, wheels, and tires on last week.

I knew exactly what I wanted and took months to find a few that fit the bill. I visited each dealership and spoke with the salesman face to face. I was paying cash and knew my limit. The truck I finally settled on took some haggling but I got the price I wanted with almost all the options I wanted and walked away feeling good about the deal. In the end I think that's the key....if you can walk away feeling good then it was a successful deal. Hell, I'm sure he made a few bucks and that's fine....I just know I didn't overspend. One and a half years later I still think I did good and love the truck. 2014 DC Z71 2LT....absolutely love it.

Why settle for less than you want? Why not order?

Had my 2014 All Terrain for a little over a year. Loved the power from the 6.2 and was regularly complimented about it. Never had a single issue with it except for the fact it was onyx black. Wore me out keeping exterior clean and it needed to be washed or hit with detailer spray twice a week.

Eventually decided to get rid of it. Looked around, called my salesman Clayton C. at Nyle Maxwell GMC in Round Rock where I had bought the 14. Told me that they were scheduled to get a 2015 All Terrain 6.2 in White Diamond within 10 days. Though it wasn't my first color choice the price and trade value offered was pretty decent. It was Friday when I got the call truck had just arrived. Thought about not buying it before going to the GMC website and got a $1500 private offer. Drove over the following day and without test driving it brought it home. They followed my request to not PDI it and take plastic off seats. Spent that evening and next day applying Leatherique to seats and waxing with Pinnacle Souveran.

After 2 years and 3 months and 23K miles am happy with it. Other than torque converter issues truck has been great. Way easier to maintain clean and looks good with level kit and the Toyo RTs.

I wish my budget was that high, lol.....I bought used. If I was to spend the money on a new truck, I would definitely order and get it exactly how I want!

I didn't order my 16 Silverado regular cab and I got most everything I wanted. Only thing that I sorta wanted but could live without was the parking sensors.

Same comment, I guess. Especially when buying new. Just can't understand settling for less than you want. I'm funny that way.

I can't understand somebody who goes online everyday to putdown, belittle, argue, contradict/criticize somebody else's decision. I'm funny that way!

Had a 2010 F150 Fx4 super cab which didn't fit child seats that good so I needed to get a bigger truck before my wife pooped out our second kid.

Narrowed it down to the extended/crew cab versions:

-2013 F150 FX4 or better

-2014 SIlverado LT or Sierra SLE

-2013 RAM Laramie

Then it came down to whichever one I could find first in my price range. Found a truck on Cars.com at a small dealership in southern Illinois they accepted my out the door offer over the phone while I was at the Daytona 500 race (this was truck number 8 I was making an attempt at, a few fords and dodge's before I came to my first GM). Checked it out, test drove it, they agreed to fix a few things and left with my new to me Sierra SLE in monkey shit brown that recently rolled off a lease from up in Canada.

I will buy from Schimmer Chevrolet in Mendota again. Nice group of people to deal with and had no issues replacing parts and even removed the aftermarket remote start for free.

Still own the truck and like (not love) it very much.

    • I have thought an EV might have some practical value in extending the life of the ICE members of ones fleet. Now....I'm convinced of it. I've been letting my better half access Raven (Mitsubishi Mirage) for her needs while Dizzy has been in the shop. Being the fuel freak I am and given the fact Raven is capable of over 60 mpg in clean air on a warm day I was taken back by the wife's ability to take a car that had used a half a tank of gas that to that point had returned a value of 57 mpg and return in with a decimating 51 mpg for that same tank in that same day in a 15 mile round trip of short hop errands and a stop in the drive through at Micky D's.  😱   Trust me on this. It would take the remainder of that tank driven on the highway to return that tank to just 54 mpg. This is not a Mitsubishi issue. This is an ICE issue that is magnified in vehicles capable of such high fuel economy values. On a percentage basis your 1500 does the same thing. Short hopping an ICE consumes a good deal more fuel and in doing so provides zero additional useable outputs. That entire volume of fuel is wasted in diluting the cylinder walls oil films, creating crankcase moisture and acid content and the resultant wear.    Enter the SLATE. All of that is avoided and the ICE's advantage in range and made useful at reduced wear for your ICE!   Kind'a cool.
    • Back in the day people would buy cars based on performance. The charger posted does 0-60 in 3.3 seconds. And it’s fully loaded.  It has a decent warranty and will fit most anyone’s needs. Remember the original Hemi? 90 day warranty. 25K mini truck or that car? I’d go with the car. It wouldn’t fit my perimeter. If I could just talk my wife out of her Genesis. It would be perfect for her.
    • Let's pivot this back. Someone said they wanted pictures.   Even better, there's already video. Pre-prod prototypes are already on the road and they're letting the press drive them.   JerryRigEverything did a good review. I really enjoy his content and EV adventures, so I was thrilled when he had the chance to review a Slate:
    • The Charger EV was stillborn. Wrong car at the wrong price for Dodge's intended audience. Now at a good price with fire-sale discounts, and still not selling, it's still very much the wrong car. Again, Dodge's intended audience. I believe a lot of Stellantis' EV blunders were all under Tavares' regime at Stellantis...the board convinced him to move on. Neat car, just wasn't received on the level that would sustain mass production.   Dodge is headed in a better direction for its core business. I didn't think there was anything left to get excited about re: the Durango after its 15 year run, but they're just now releasing a 392 version that should price out in the low 40's. Nicely done. I'm not sure I would touch anything Stellantis makes with a 10' pole these days, but the Durango is still mostly parts designed like 3 parent companies ago so maybe it's still OK?
