Chevy told me about a 4x4 service update flash

Took my truck in for service (hvac issues) service advisor told me there is an update for the 4x4 system he mentioned something the update effects how it locks up, It works fine!

 

Has anyone heard about this i cant find anything on this forum, and gm owners center doesn't have anything listed

Thank you, I guess i used the wrong search words. Even googled failed.

 

I guess thats why my steering felt heavy I figured it was cold, etc.

 

Edit i am glad i am having it done she only has 8k

I am wondering why the gm info center didn't have it, I checked it shortly after they told me..

This update was only for 2014 trucks and some early 2015 trucks. The OP has a 2016 truck. My truck was just at the dealer this week and there was no 4wd update for it.

I am hoping to find out more info truck should be ready tomorrow hopefully.

 

I have noticed heavy steering when its cold out kinda like i was in 4auto. I figured it heavy was because I haven't driven it in a day or so.

 

I guess yours is a 16?

Steering is heavy on all of the 2014+ K2xx trucks, they use electric power assist steering. That is normal until the system warms up.

I remember it being a electronic steering. Never knew that cold made it heavy feeling. It doesn't get cold in texas that often right now its about 60*

 

So i am not sure why they said the 4x4 system needed an update. Hopefully i can get my truck today.

I had my truck in a couple days ago for the airbag recall and they told me there was also a recall for 4 HI possibly getting locked in or out, can't remember which. It was the first I had heard of it as well. Said all they did was reprogram the 4x4 module. I hadn't experienced any problems but I can count on 1 hand the number of times I have used 4 HI. Haven't noticed any problems switching between auto and 2 HI.

Only time mine acts up is when the streets are a little slick (factory rubber as well) like that morning i took it in it wasnt fun at all.

Condition: A “Service 4WD” message may be displayed on the Driver Information Center and DTC C0398 may be set. Concurrently, the vehicle is permanently locked in 4HI and cannot be shifted shift out of it while

 

the code is present. If the code is cleared, this scenario may repeat if the transfer case is in “Auto” mode and driven for approx. 2 or more hours. Customers will likely notice that the steering wheel is harder to turn, t

 

the engine will feel like it has lost power and the tires may squeal when turning in a

 

parking lot.

 

Correction: Dealers are to reprogram the Transfer Case Control Module.

 

 

 

Whether you have issues or not, just do it. They can do it at your next service.

My 2016 Silverado 5.3 locked up in 4 hi and gave a service 4wd message at start up. Visited the dealar 1/9 and the work order states: perform recall 28770.

When locked up I could feel the additional drag and an increase in steering effort

also an increase in driveline noise.

I haven't been notified for my 16 all terrain sierra as of yet

Thank you for the info, i don't know why the gm owners center didn't show me this or they probably took it off after they checked it? glad they are fixing it while its there.

Had my 2016 CCSB at the dealer for another broken seat base and scheduled maintenance. To my surprise the dealer "reprogrammed the transfer case control module with updated calibration".

 

It is noted as: "Recall-28770 4WD ISP Drift DTC C0398 - 4 HI Lock-Up"
