Why do you chose GM?

If I'm going to be 100% honest I bought mine because it was available and it was damn cheap (used w/ 9k on the clock). I've always been a hardcore Ram guy at heart but I had to choose between a 4WD Ram Hemi and my Reg cab 5.3L 2WD for like 5 grand less and I couldn't resist. After the fact? More than happy I went the way I did. The 5.3L has more than exceeded my expectations (It's damn quick in a light truck and if I lay off it it'll pull 20 mpg) and you can't argue with the reliability of it.

Plus the 2014+ trucks do look phenomenal in my opinion.

I grew up near doraville in the 70's. my uncles worked at General Motors. Denny owned to different trans-ams, one black and one gold. My grandfather owned chevys, one a suburban with a 454. My dad raced blazers mud boggin. My grandmother drove buicks. My father and I rebuilt a 307 in a stepside for my first truck a 72 that was blue with a green door:). In the 80's we owned a s10 along with a CHEVETTE!

I've had 5 Chrysler products and a few imports and this Avalanche is my first GM. I've always liked the Tahoes so this is basically that, but with work capabilities the Tahoe doesn't have. My daily is a Lexus. So far I love the truck although I've had to change the transfer case a few thousand miles after I got it. Knock on wood, hope it's good now. It drives like a million bucks so I hope to keep it for a long time.

I love the looks of the current Full Size Chevy Trucks. I've owned at least a half dozen Toyota's. Just wanted to try something different.

My first 'nice' truck was an '03 Z71, so there was previous sentimental love I guess when I was shopping for this one.

Never have gotten why folks lock on to a particular brand and act like it's family from then on.

Worked at a Ford dealer for 16 years. I'm a dealership vendor now and drive all brands on a regular basis.

My Dad was a Pontiac body shop manager and drove mostly GM's when I was a kid. When I get in a GM now, it feels familiar.

But I like other brands as well. I drove Jeep CJ's for years...they feel familiar, too. Drove Fords for years...a Probe, and 3 Broncos....then the Expeditions came out. Tahoes were out a couple years before them. That's what I really wanted, but I'd have been happy with an Expedition....but the place I worked for wouldn't give me a good deal on one, and the Chevy dealer up the street did give me a good deal on a 99 Tahoe. I still have it. Then we special ordered an 02 Explorer. Got rid of it a 5k, had our first baby on the way. Found a used 99 Tahoe similar to my other one. Then an 04 Suburban...still have it, too.

The Tahoe and Sub both gave me excellent service. I looked into Ford trucks, and might have bought an F-150...I did hate the fact they don't have actual tilt wheels, though. They just don't sit right for me inside. But I found my GMC (at one of my Ford dealers) with only 4,800 on it, and that awesome green, so I jumped on it....because deep down, I trusted it more than I would have a Ford. History matters.

What I don't get is folks who buy turd after turd from a manufacturer and then keep right on buying them. You don't owe that manufacturer anything. Try something else.

Owned all of them... don't care.... buy whatever. This 17 was a good deal as a demo with 8K on the clock and had the options in it I wanted which was somewhat difficult to find. I had been dealing on an F150 the day prior and this 2500HD popped up on a site called newcarselloff that dealers advertise heavily discounted inventory on. Next time might be a Ford, or a Nissan or whatever.

I bought a GM because of the deal I got on it. I have zero brand loyalty. Last truck was a Toyota. It was a good truck. Before that was a Ford. That was a good truck also. I'm meticulous when it comes to maintenance and care of my vehicles. Usually if you take good car of a vehicle, it will take care of you.

I've had the least amount of problems with GM's. I think I had figured it out once that I had a 100% failure rate with Ford (3 Fords all electrical lemons), 55% failure rate with Chrysler, 40% failure rate with a mix of Imports and a .083% failure rate with GM's. I don't think of myself as brand loyal, I just stick with what's worked the best...

I said to myself I'd never buy another GMC after owning a 1999 Suburban 2500 diesel. It was the worst vehicle I've ever owned. One thing broke after another. When the injector pump broke that was the last straw and I got rid of it. 12 years after that I decided to buy a Sierra after checking out a friend's Silverado. I wanted to buy a pickup but didn't want a Dodge RAM and definitely not a F-150.

Six month of owning it and I've been happy. No problems whatsoever.

I intend to keep it for a long time.

I'm happy with GM once again !!

I chose my 2009 5.3 Flexfuel because I have owned Silverado's in the past. Easy to work on. And have never left me stranded on the side of the road. And paying $1.85 a gallon for E85 make's me smile.. ??

  • Don't like Ford for some reason - even though I have owned dozens of them.
  • Dodge / Chrysler is junk (especially the transmissions)
  • Imports are too expensive

Chevy is cheap to buy, lots of them available, and pretty easy to work on. Overall, I dislike the quality of GMC products, but I feel the same way about most other automotive brands too.

GMC: Lots of models available, generally pretty reliable. Easy to work on. Cheaply designed parts. Not designed to last very long, especially the little stuff.

Dodge / Chrylser: They look great inside and out. Lots of power. Very low quality and obviously designed to break down often.

Ford: Similar to GMC in many ways.

Imports: Some are crap, some are great.

After working on just about every kind of car/truck/tractor/plane/dirt bike/boat and moped, I think that every brand has its pluses and minuses. What I would really like is this:

A large Chevy SUV body, with the engine power of a Dodge, engine reliability of a Toyota, Interior of a Chrysler, and ..... a cup holder from a Ford.
