Weather Tech No Drill Mud Flaps

I'm not a big fan of mud flaps on trucks but even less of a fan of having slushy/salty crap all over the side of my truck in the winter. Weather Tech claims no drill mounting, looks like they attach with a clip that you turn. Are these something that can be installed during lousy weather and taken off after the roads dry out or are they not designed that way?

Yes. Used them on both vehicles and am highly satisfied with them, although I don't have the snow problem down here.

I put front and rear flaps on mine.

 

On the front you remove the existing screws and line up the holes in the flap with the holes in the wheel well and replace the screws.

 

On the rear you remove screws toward the bottom of the wheel well line up the holes in the flap with the holes in the wheel well and replace screws. The upper portion of the flap attaches with the rotating clip built into the flap.

 

Very simple to do all 4.

So they are easy to take on and off, I would only want them installed during crappy weather. Are there any other brands that are easy to install and remove, either Husky or even the oem GM version.

I've got the Weather Tech on mine also. I have not taken them off since installing but I do use the hose and flex them a little toward the front end of the truck and squirt any accumulation out. I am pleased with mine.

I don't take mine off, but you would simply reverse the install procedure which is, as I mentioned, very simple.

 

I'm not sure about other brands since this is the only one I have used.

Have them on front and the rear, easy to install look good no issues with them. Just cleaned where they where going on at and put them on.

Yes they go off as easy as they go on. I leave mine on though cause I think it looks good with them. I'm not normally a mud flap fan either but it works well on these trucks. They're not obnoxiously big but still work.

GM flaps are pain to install but are the best looking in my opinion. But they are not intended to be taken on and off all the time for sure.

I went with Husky over WeatherTech based on the advice of my local accessories shop. The guy sells and installs TONS of accessories and said over the long term they did not have good experience with the WT "twist-lock" installation. Also like rangerhgm said above only the rears use the clips - you remove and replace screws on the fronts.

 

With the Huskies you need to drill 2 holes in the front. The rears use the existing screws. Most people don't want to drill holes but if you protect them with some paint you won't have any problems. After you have these holes drilled you could just remove the flaps and run the screws back in the holes to protect them when you don't have the flaps installed.

 

There is a difference in looks between WeatherTech and Husky. Just buy whichever one you like best! :cheers:

so you found drilling the hole for the huskys was the way to go over just the adhesive? I'm going to be installing my huskys this weekend

Sorry I'm late getting back. My installer drilled the holes and they install 5-7 sets of these a DAY so they were pretty quick. Drill the holes and brushed on some quick-dry primer while they installed a liner and tonneau. Went back and installed the flaps in about 5 minutes total after that.

 

I have not removed them but each flap has about 4 screws that would come out quickly with a power screwdriver if you wanted to take them off. Most of the screws go back in to hold the wheel well liners in place and keep dirt out of the newly drilled holes.

    • Only TAN I have for the product was at 5K in service miles and it was 2.71
    • If anyone lands here looking for an update - the problem wasnt with the hose, the clamp, etc... I purchased a metal Thermostat housing that just must not of been made to spec. It just wouldn't plug up the hose.. Went back to a plastic cheap housing - leak fixed. Some plumbers tape carefully placed in tandem with a clamp likely would've gotten the job done.   Best,
    • For anyone following, this is what I have deduced from this forum - and my very specific niche case. Please do let me know if you see me going in the wrong direction here. For context, I have a 16 sierra 1500 w/t. Has TC and Cargo light switches. Removed the switch to find the X1 and X2 of the S48A connection populated with wires (x1 10-14, and x2 1-5).   Took photos of the X61A-X5 to find the wires from S48A-X1 land here at their respective pins (10, 11, 17, 23 on the X5). Was hopeful that this means my X51A fuse box has the appropriate pins... No cigar. So now I will be routing wires from the rear of the X61A-X1 to the engine bay and to their respective negative relay triggers. Please see to the diagram. If any has insight as to where the S48A-X2 pins 4 and 5 land that would be awesome.   Note: please disregard fuse sizes. Main fuse will like be 25A, all mini bus fuses will likely be 10-15A   Cheers
    • 287,500 Mile Service   8/13/2026   Reset Fuel Trims   Since the work done in the previous post there was a good improvement in response in all areas except right after a fill up where the LTFT would go -20%+ for about four miles while the STFT was near neutral. Before the work they both went very negative for a few miles after a fill up but act normal thereafter.    We did a systems check of the vapor recovery system for functionality and ability to hold a vacuum. That checked out fine. But this doesn't mean the charcoal canister is dead in the water. Testing that is next up. For now the reset of the fuel trims.    I intentionally shorted the fill exactly two gallons to eliminate any chance of filling the canister. On start up the trims were behaving normally until I got up and rolling where the LTFT went -10 / -11%% but the short was + 2 to 0%. Within a mile the the STFT offset the LTFT and by 2 miles they were neutral. HUGE improvement but still not hunky-dory.    I'll watch them for a few days. Perhaps another tank where I will fill completely to 'first click' and compare. Meanwhile on the hunt for a new canister and I'll toss another purge value at it for good measure. Pending the outcome of the canister test that is. Progress of any kind is welcome.    Fuel economy improvement with bringing hole #3 back to the living was a noticeable bump to the positive. Even on the few miles I drove after the refill I already see another bump up by the trims reset.     She's purring like a kitten with a warm bowl of milk.    BTW, adding 50 rpm to the idle took the majority of the negative timing out on cold start up and leaned the cold idle. No longer burbles in the cat. What a dumb way to heat a cat.
