2014-2017: DL8, DL3, Towing Mirror Upgrade – Mirrors Explained

Huge thanks to pgamboa not only for making the harness (which works flawlessly) but also for being so helpful. I asked a ton of questions related to mirror part numbers, install questions and even texted him while I was installing to get some quick pointers. Fantastic stuff and I would def buy again.

 

One question for anyone that has one this install. Have you noticed your upper mirror shake at all? Mine seems to have a small shake to it, unsure if I just don't have it torqued down enough of there is just always a small shake in the mirror. Anyone know torque specs for this thing? I don't want to torque down too hard and snap off a post.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm hoping someone with Towing Mirrors can offer some advice on your issues. The retrofit doc does say to tighten bolts to 9 Nm (80 lb in) if that helps.

Just curious, I dropped off my 14 sierra Denali to install the oem tow mirrors without the power fold option with the LH Door Harness 23171572, RH Door Harness 23171566 and Jumper Harness 23387133 and I was told it's a 7 hour job for a total $485. I told them forget it and I'd come pick it up. That sounds way out of line. Anybody else have this issue?

It takes me about 30-45 minutes for each door to swap a harness out. But I've done it over 100 times. I think on average (from my observation here), is that an hour for each side sounds about right. Factor in swapping the mirror, drilling the 4th hole, etc., you might be a 1.5hrs. (Maybe 2 if it's your first time). Now - That's just for mirrors and door harnesses.

 

For the jumper harness, that is a little more involved. One member completed his jumper harness in 3-4 hours while another took 8-9 hours.

 

It doesn't help that the jumper harness installations instructions are not the clearest which is why I decided to make the How To video On that jumper harness.

 

7 hours doesn't sound too far off, but I would imagine that time be shorter since the dealer is installing versus self-installed.

One other thing - Your truck is a Denali. I presume you have Seat Memory? If so, those harness part numbers won't work. What they quoted is "Minus A45 - Seat Memory".

 

You want (If you have Seat Memory - A45)

Part # 23171564

Replaced By Part # 23342727

 

Part # 23171567

Replaced By Part # 23342716

I do have seat memory but before I purchased the mirrors and harnesses I provided my vin and they told me I'd need those specific harnesses and to have the memory module reflashed for everything to work. I hope this isn't another issue I'll have. I just got my headlights retrofitted and that turned out to be a 2 month long disaster. I can't handle any more problems at this point.

No need to apologize.

 

It is common for part #s to become obsolete and replaced/superseded by new part #s.

 

If you have do NOT have Seat Memory - A45:

Part # 23171572 has been replaced (superseded) By Part # 23342729

Part # 23171566 has been replaced (superseded) By Part # 23342715

 

If you DO have Seat Memory - A45:

Part # 23171564 has been replaced (superseded) By Part # 23342727

Part # 23171567 has been replaced (superseded) By Part # 23342716

Thanks Hsilverstein! For anyone looking to perform this upgrade, let me guide you in the right direction. I commonly see misinformation given by the dealer time after time again. I can make this plug and play for you. For any DIYers, save yourself some time, $, and the headache of being misguided. You can do this upgrade yourself.

Terminal pin crimps and pin fit is perfect and of course they work as they are designed to. If you haven't gotten them, I don't know what you're waiting for. Coming from a GM Tech, this is very welcomed feedback! Thanks for sharing! I put a lot of effort in making this upgrade not only possible as a Plug and Play solution, but with quality work. I am very passionate about doing things the way it would have been if it came from GM. Using the same gauge wiring, same terminals, same crimping methods , and same automotive harness tape. I would not put out what I wouldn't personally install on my truck.
