_JR_ Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 So I need to plug or cover the fuel fill hole. Getting too much debris and garbage in there. Searched online but no luck. Anyone here find a clean way to prevent debris from getting in without making it a hassle at fill ups? Please spare me the replies about not getting dirt in yours when you live in the beauty states lol. Have a pic of what greeted me this morning, will try to find an image upload site later to help understand why I need a cover/plug 1

Not the first time getting dirt etc in thereSend that picture to GM, ask them how you are suppose toprotect the fuel system? As there design does not in your climate and area. They designed this for your vehicle system? 2

CounterMeasure Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 (edited) Wow, so the capless system does not include a cover on the fill door to keep it clean? That's a new one to me. All the ones I've seen, including my wife's Charger, has a cover built into the door that keeps in clean. Given the fuel door itself doesn't seal, total GM design fail. The mechanical engineer that design it and/or approved it needs to turn in their engineering license(s)... Edited February 28, 2017 by CounterMeasure

The mechanical engineer that design it and/or approved it needs to turn in their engineering license(s)... Right along with the team that programmed the transmission, designed the faulty t-stat / cooling system, the AFM system, the seat heating elements / system, the cup holder that allows fluid to leak into the bottom of the fold down arm rest, the seat bracket that loosens after about 12,000 miles, the sweet FM radio, the squeaky flapper valve, and probably other issues that I'm forgetting. 1
07Softail Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Again.... GM is adding Mickey Mouse gadgitry to sell vehicles. Why can't we just have a damn fuel cap people....is it to difficult to unscrew and replace a fuel cap nowadays! RT 3
Hoginedgewood Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 I've thought about the paper towels mounted on the garbage cans, stuffing a couple in there after a fill up, but there usually empty.
DLW66 Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Not like GM invented it, Ford actually came out with the capless fuel system back in 2008 and now quite a few manufactures have followed suit because the public showed a positive interest in it, especially women. I however agree there should be a sealed side door if you want to use a capless system.
Cowpie Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 And none of the OEM's actually figured that anyone would use their pickup for more than hard road driving to go to the grocery store or to grandma's place at Christmas time. This kind of thing is insane for those that actually deal with any kind of conditions outside of daily commute stuff. I live on gravel roads that it is two miles to the nearest highway. Lots of dust, mud spray, and yes.. winter snow stuff. The capless design is about as stupid of an idea as any GM has implemented. And they have implemented a lot of goofy stuff over the years. Just adds to my contention that no one, anymore, is making a vehicle that I truly want to buy. I am relegated to only getting something I need to get a job done. Buying a vehicle anymore is becoming a depressing idea. 1
2016 Sierra Owner Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 So Ford has had this since 2008. What do they not drive them up in Canada or in snowy weather?
