ignition Coil

So I purchased a 2014 Sierra SLT crew cab mid Jan. 2017 I traded in my 2008 GMC crew cab.

my new to me truck currently has 34,XXX miles on it and I get a flashing engine light the other morning. I hit the good old On Star button and get the very nice lady that can hardly speak English. She tells me that I have emission error codes coming on and I need to get the truck serviced. I call my local Gm dealer and they were able to fit me in and tell me I have a cylinder 5 miss fire and my ignition coil is faulty. I am then told that it would cost me $285 to replace the coil and they suggest that I do a Fuel System clean at the tune of another $235 which should be done at 30K. The coil had to be ordered. I asked why is the not under warranty? I was told that the bumper to bumper is out because I'm over my 3 years based on the in service date. and the ignition coil is not considered part of powertrain warranty. WHAT how is a coil not part of a powertrain??? I leave the dealer and start thinking that this truck does not require a tune up for a 100K then why don't the ignition parts last to a 100K? I also don't see any thing in the book about cleaning the fuel system at 30K. so I decide to call GM customer service. I make a "case" and at that time I'm told the same thing "not covered" but they are going to review it and get back to me in 24 to 48 hours. I ask about the fuel system clean and the rep tells me that if the dealer says it needs done than she suggest that I have it done because she is not a tech and they would know better than her.

Today after work I take the truck in to have the work completed. and while at the Dealership I get the call from the GM rep telling me sorry we reviewed it and since your the 2nd owner we are not going to cover the repair. Unbelievable... GM will us any excuse to get out of standing behind their product.

I really fill that this is truly my last GM vehicle period! I have owned many of GM products in fact I have 3 of them In my driveway as I write this. but I also have 3 over brands. And I can tell you this the GM's take way more $ to keep right then the others, In the past I have had a 2008 GMC truck, a 1999 GMC truck, a 1995 S10 truck, a 1994 Chevy truck, and 1990 gmc truck. So you can see I'm a loyal GM truck guy but at my next turn around I will give very hard looks at the other brands..as I cant take this kind of treatment no longer.

Does anyone here have any advise as to how I can get GM to back a truck that only has 34K on it? Thanks in advance.

There is absolutely no way for GM to buy back a truck from the second owner. Any concern you have would be with the dealer you bought the truck from. I am surprised the coil is not considered part of the powertrain as well, I would ask the dealer for the detailed powertrain warranty stipulation that shows where the coil packs are excluded from the 5yr/100k mile warranty coverage.

Change the coil pack yourself and be done with it

Im not Asking for them to buy the truck back. sorry for the confusion, I just think they should stand behind their product better. I would have changed it out myself if i knew what the problem was. but as new as this truck is I was confident GM would have taken care of it.

First find a new dealership ? order parts / install your self , and one can of Sea Foam - fuel system cleaner $ 8.00. it works & a lot cheaper . i do it at twice a year , no problem's . good luck

I just have a big problem with GM telling me that because I'm the second owner that is why they are not going to cover the repair. What does that have to do with anything here? So does that mean if I was the 1st owner would they take care of it? They just come up with any excuse.
