steveimpala Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 I have a 2004 GMC 1500 Crew Cab that I purchased new. For a 13 year old truck, it has low mileage ( 60K ). The truck body is in great shape, except near the cab corner / rockers where it has some minor blistering. I thought about trading it in on a new truck, but I'm still recovering from sticker shock lol... even a used, 1 year old truck was pushing the high $30k. The mechanics of the truck is excellent, the issue that I have is the frame.....is rusting, large scales of rust is flaking off. to the point that I'm concerned regarding the integrity of the frame itself... are there new or used frames available for replacement ? And can certain years interchange ? Thanks 1
SpartanAutoworx Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Buy a used frame and treat it with por15 before swapping. I have done many frame swaps and its not difficult just time consuming for someone that has never done one. 3
muddkatt Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 (edited) 1999 - 2007 will fit. Edited March 25, 2017 by muddkatt
KARNUT Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 You'd be hard pressed to find a body that out last the frame. I'd look real close to see how much metal you lost, frames are pretty thick and just rust proof the frame. Salvage yards are full of frames that body's are rusted off of. 1
diyer2 Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Agree with Karnut. I doubt you can shove an awl through the frame anywhere. Treat it to preserve it. Lived in Michigan for years and never had a frame fail from the salt used on the roads. 1
Tracto-man Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 I wouldn't worry about it for the most part. If you can actually punch through it I would be a little more concerned, but it doesn't sound too bad from your discription. I know a guy with a old Chevy truck that he took off the road due to a hole rusted in the frame. He still beats that truck up on his farm and 4 years later its not broke yet.
airitech Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 I'd grind all visible spots that you can get to, hit it with a metal brush wheel, and throw some chassis saver on it, the stuffs kinda expensive but you wont have to re do it for 3 years! 1
Stephen Jones Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 How do you figure out what body mount holes you have? Rpo code? I see the 143.5 wb
Bear66 Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 Sorry maybe off topic but can’t find an answer. Can you put a 2010 Chevy 2500 HD cab and frt clip onto a 2006 Chevy 3500 frame

shakenfake Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 (edited) Yes as long as it is an extended cab with the same bed size also needs to be the same size truck so 1500 or 2500 Edited October 7, 2021 by shakenfake

Bleepster Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 clean well - use the por-15 system (cleaner, prep, product) and you are good to go
madmot Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 Well this seems to be an active chat on the topic. So I have an 08 Silverado LTZ extended cab 4wd from Michigan. Frame is heavily rusted and cracked. I've found a fairly clean 08 2wd extended cab frame. My question is are they interchangeable? I found a parts site that kinda says they are but does anyone know for sure? Chassis Frame 22832053 Frame Assembly 1/2 TON 2WD. ext cab 6.5 ft box. 1/2 TON 4WD. ext cab 6.5 ft box.
