Did gasoline prices in the US jump on Weds'? In Ontario they rose 6 cents a liter (roughly 16 cents US a gallon). The use the marketers are using is that the refiners are switching over from the winter formulation to the winter blend. I don't ever recall this excuse being used in the past.

Every spring the price jumps when they switch to summer blend.

According to gas buddy, the average US price has gone up about 12 cents in the past 2 weeks.

At least with the summer blend we will see better fuel economy. I hate the winter blend.

Be glad you don't live in California, next year the price of a gallon will increase by .13 cents across the board.

It's been trending up for a bit now. Some of the news agencies said the spike was speculation related from the missiles we lobbed at Syria. Such crap since we don't really buy much oil from the middle east these days.

IMO it's all bull.

They raise the price because they can hoping to make more money expecting increased volume.

Supply and demand, simple. :happysad:

It's all greed and it ain't going to get better in war time.

Engine Oil prices are rising fast as well. Most major oil companies have raised finished oil prices at least 2X since 1/1/17 and its being driven primarily by escalations in base oils and additive costs over the past several months. Avg. is about +10%. Shell's GTL plant in Qatar has been operations at 1/3 capacity for some time.

I gain 4+ mpg on summer blends.

Trying different things to regain.

an upper lube gas additive I found almost gains.. nothing to notice though.

here is difference of summer and winter

True, but oil is a global commodity pricing thing. What we pay for crude, even our own within the U.S. is affected by world events. Still a lot of other folks who buy ME crude.

Its also affected by the threat or possibility of an event, whether or not it actually happens or affects oil production.

I was too young to witness the gas shortages & rationing in the 80s, but I clearly remember one day in 2005 when I was working at Fleet Farm (supply store with attached gas station).

When hurricane Katrina was approaching the gulf, all the gas prices shot up $0.25 in one day. They were anticipating a disruption and shortage in gas and preemptively raised the price. Its comical how arbitrary the gas price really is. They charge whatever they can get away with.

Well, indeed, they charge what they can get by with. So does everyone else for everything, 365 days a year, around the world. But the gas folks cannot gouge too much, as many states have some pretty hefty fines for doing so. They can only price so much above what they are paying for the gas from the terminal, and the terminal pricing is based on the commodity market for gas. The market folks bid up the market price due to events, both globally and locally. The refineries only get what the market will pay for refined products and pricing down line reflects that.

I will charge a customer what I can get by with also. You want my semi to haul your freight, you do not get to determine the final price you will pay. We will haggle. If you are not willing to pay the minimum I will haul for, then find another truck. Gas stations are no different as is any other business entity.

That's exactly the difference between your trucking business and gas stations: If I'm not happy with your price, I have other options, some of which might offer a worse service for cheaper price. It's my choice to pay you more for your excellent service and reliability. You are not price gouging because I can shop around.

But there is really no alternative for gas. They all charge almost the same price in a given region, I have no other options. there is no competition. They all sell the same gas, No one offers a lesser product for a lower price that I can choose to purchase. The consumers see it as price gouging.

Well that is because all the stations in a geographic area get their gas from the same supply terminals, who get it at the current market price from the supply stream. But stations do have varying prices, depending on when they took delivery, as most businesses, including gas stations, use a Last In First Out pricing and accounting method.

I had heard that on Sirius the other day. Here in Ontario, they would add 13 cents a liter to the price. Just another plus to the metric system.

Then they'll use the nonsense w/ North Korea as another excuse to raise prices.

    • HD at the moment, are kinda their own deal.  How LTZ sells on those vs on 1500, there is a difference.   They are merging most of the mid trims on 1500.  LT, RST and LTZ are replaced by one trim, Silverado.  LT and RST are a BIG portion of sales.    Bad naming choice aside, the new Silverado trim will offer the spread of options that those three trims offered.  So expect to see things like the tech package for example, and maybe memory seats.  And LT Trail Boss will now just be "Trail Boss" (formerly LT Trail Boss) but will offer content spread like the new Silverado trim will.  The press photos showed the Trail Boss (formerly LT Trail Boss) has access to Super Cruise now, which on the current truck was High Country only.
    • I installed a Hellwig rear sway bar on my 21 Sierra SLT, it made a huge difference on how the truck handles, no body roll, the trucks much more planted now. Not sure of the suspension differences between the 21 and 26,  if its body roll your having a sway bar will solve it.
    • So a follow up and my fix. I found in online searches the live data to look at on a scan tool to verify the fuel tank pressure sensor was working.  It showed an spec number towards the lower end of the rang, but in spec.  Then while it was running opened the gas cap and the pressure should change.  It didn't change even a tiny bit.  The data for the purge valve said it was open...never changed. So then I measured the voltages on the plug for the fuel pressure sensor and they matched what it should be.  So local car quest parts had the sensor in stock...it was a bit of a pain to remove and an even bigger one to get it to actually go back in.  It helped to unbolt the driveshaft and bungie cord away from the gas tank to give a bit more room to work. So fuel tank pressure sensor in I cleared the code, and started it up.  I went to the scan tool's live data and... Eureka! The pressure number was different and fluctuated a bit.  So took it on a short drive and pressure number varied saw the purge valve go from closed to open and back to closed.  Drove it to and from work for roughly a week plugged in the scan tool no codes.  I took it in to get tested and passed.  In my state's infinite wisdom (oops meant greed), since I pushed the test with the maximum extensions I have to take it back in by Feb '27 to 'get it back up to date', then my next test won't be until Feb '29.
    • Any grease on the stud threads of any kind?   Wheel studs should have NOTHING on them for proper torquing and so the nuts don't back off.     Are all of the mating surfaces clean?  So wheel, rotor and hub?     We've had plenty of trucks at work with that wheel, this is a first to me.  Makes me think they've got a lube tech putting anti-seize on all the wheel studs or some kind of grease, and they need to stop doing that.  To have 11 other trucks with the same exact problem.
    • I was a Chevy guy for years, then switched to GMC because I liked the looks better.  I'm actually thinking I like the Chevy looks better than GMC for the first time in a lot of years.   One thing I know for certain, the new GMC dash is hideous!  Chevy wins this one!
