Frame wax touch up 2016 GMC help

Hi Everyone,

I am looking to touch up some spots where the lift removed the wax from my frame. I have been doing some searching but I am coming up empty. Anyone know where we can buy the same wax that is being used on the 2016 sierra's? I haven't found a solid answer of what kind of coating it is and the manufacture of the wax and where to buy.

Thanks

OP, i'm pretty sure you'll be OK with touching up here is my 2013 with 30,000 miles on it pretty sure I'll go another 6000 miles just fine, The wax seems to be a bit firmer from the 2013(GMT-900's) vs 2016 (K2xx's), my 2013 flaked off in chunks in some places but for the most it stays put, even with pressure washer, here you go pics to prove, my 2016 doesn't flake off. It's more than environmental, this is a city driven truck very rarely goes off road and only have to touch up because due do tire rotations & oil changes, vehicle lifts seem to smash, scrape, & knock off the wax.

Folks with rust issues either life in more extreme environments or just don't care to maintenance their vehicle...

I used Daubert nox-rust-x-121b aswell, 12 pack is the best option. https://www.daubertchemical.com/products/corrosion-prevention/product/nox-rust-x-121b

Don't waste your time or money. The coating was never meant to live past 36k miles.

Yeah sure, GM designed a coating to last until basic warranty is up allowing them to go full Toyota and be opened up to a slew of frame recalls and fixes years later costing them millions and millions of dollars in fixes and tarnished image...

OP, add some, it sure wouldn't hurt if in a heavily salted area. From what I gather it also soaks in to the metal over time as well. Good luck.

My dealer gave me a few cans, i am pals with the autobody manager but apparently you cant even order it through GM. I have never tried right from daubert but a dozen cans is probably not a bad idea. I used 2 "touching up" my 15 with maybe 15,000 miles avoiding gravel. I would happily pay an extra 2-3 grand on msrp to have powder coated frame option. If you keep up on the wax it it lasts and does a good job of protecting. Expect that to take 8-10 hours out of your year, but gain it back at trade in time.

I always though if GM would apply a Line X type bedliner coating over the entire frame before assembly would be pretty damn durable compared to what they've been doing.

My 2016 Denali has the Steel control arms. I'm not sure why mine doesn't have the aluminum ones? Anyway I was thinking of applying the wax to the control arms. Wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were?

I would also pay additional money if the used por15 or powder coat on my frame. However they don't want the truck to last 40 years.

I live in New England and I oiled my 2004 Silverado since new. With 195k it still looks great.

How so? Just sprayed on used motor oil?

Personally, I'd go a bit further, and want the frame and chassis fully galvanised, or better yet, have all body, chassis and frame parts below the belt line, low grade stainless/highly rust resistant steel. All fluid lines should be CU/NI or stainless.

The cost to do it would be fairly minimal, probably not more than a couple g's per truck. There's easily a market of well over 100,000 fullsize GM trucks a year that would buy this option. On a $50-70g truck, its a no brainer. IMO, if I'm paying that much for a vehicle, I should reasonably get to expect it to last 20 years or more in the salt belt, without becoming full of rust holes, severely rusted frame etc..

Did you end up spraying the complete underneath of your truck with the wax?

No, just touched up here there through the years with Daubert (most of what you see if factory wax) keep in mind I am from TX, it's now my brothers truck. He came over and I snapped some pic's since I saw this thread.

Did you wire brush any of the rusty spots when doing touch ups, or did you just spray right over the rust?
