WARNING SCAMMER IN MARKETPLACE

Recommended Posts

In 16 years this is the first big issue we have had

I don't see any drawback in requiring photos with username in it. More of a proactive strike against fraud sales.

For example, take two separate sales posts, poster A included photos and poster B didn't. Poster b's sale will shoot to the top of the current posts because people will be asking for photos burying poster A's.

I see this a bunch and it sucks for those who put some time into their post including all the right info and pictures. Requiring photos would stop this.

Just my two cents.

This is why it's also important to utilize the member feedback section. Just takes a minute to post about a deal you had with another member.

After some suggestions, I've lowered the minimum post amount to 50. We'll be moving to a newer version of the forum software soon which will allow us to refine how the marketplace works going forward. We want to keep it open as much as possible. As mentioned before, lock it down too much and we're going to shoot ourselves in the foot.

Thank you everyone for your comments and patience.

On other forums I was on, a handwritten note was required that was put up against or near the item youre selling. This note included the date of the post and the user's screename.

it really helped make for sale posts more genuine. Plus if i can recommend another rule that was used, EVERY for sale item must have a picture of the item for sale and a price within 24hrs or the post gets removed. There is a ton of posts on here reading : "volant intake for sale make me an offer" that really need to be cleaned up

While implementing post counts sounds good, it won't make a difference.

Been on the offroad forums and Dodge forums for years, even with significant and obstructive rules in place, people still get scammed...I watched it time and time again. 100 post limits, did nothing. Time limits, nothing.

The scams still happen, and all it does is frustrate those selling and those with a couple posts that want to buy something or that sold their truck and make an account to sell the excess junk they have...

Original photos are a good idea and "I don't know how to post photos" just doesn't wash today. I'm sure a neighbor has a kid to show how it's done.

Stinks because I always ask to send as "Family and Friends" so avoid the PayPal fee.

It's not worth the small savings.

Bingo, if no picture mods on f150 deleted your post.

I'm just thankful this particular thief was an idiot and made tons of mistakes in his failed attempt. Also thankful I can comment on my post again lol. It's a bad situation for the mods damned if you damned if you don't. They have got got try something. It'll happen again probably not on this scale but if buyers are vigilant there plenty of ways to not loose your money.

WOW

I posted that I was looking for a set of LED tails (which I still am). He responded that he had a set. He even sent me pics via text message. I almost bought them from him but at the last minute I noticed the pics were a Sierra and I have a Silverado so I passed on them. Glad I did or I probably would have PayPal'd him the funds!!

This was "mattice" and just happened over the weekend.

I asked him for a video of the AMP steps on his truck in operation and gave him my number to text it to me. No surprise that it never showed up.

I recommend you dispute the payment. 3 weeks of not hearing from someone after payment is unacceptable.

    • Because that is IDIOTIC, much like this question. They've already been forced to do it by past administrations - why would you roll that back when it's a GOOD thing?  WHO IS ARGUING FOR LOWER MILEAGE???? 😂  NOBODY IS!!   I'm certainly not! What I want is RELIABLE vehicles again that are worth the price paid!    I don't get your logic here ...   In 2003 I paid $2,200 for our '86 Grand Marquis. It's STILL running and I've never been inside the engine, aside for the timing cover since it was leaking, so I threw a new timing set in since that makes sense. Transmission is ORIGINAL. Electric pump in the gas tank is ORIGINAL. Rear end is ORIGINAL. I'd have to hit my head REAL hard to want to pay $60k or more for a car that still can't come close to the comfort, seating and storage space, or reliability of this one. Nothing is even in the ball park! Hundreds of thousands of brands and models have been built and sent to the crusher while this one keeps on going!   https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   I've got a whole fleet of cars, motorcycles, and a truck close to this age for summer and winter. No one could pay me enough to buy anything built this century. I have zero use for any it.
    • Since I'm the one who has to fix them when they break, I'll take vehicles over 30 years old all day, EVERY day, over ANY modern crap. Have you attempted any repairs on anything built after 2006? It's a friggin nightmare, and gets worse the newer the model year.    If I had the will or desire, I can make any car of any age outside of a Model T (I don't have THAT much will ...) just as powerful, comfortable, and have all the tech the new stuff does, and get pretty close in mileage, too. I prefer SIMPLICITY. The less the vehicle has, the less to fix WHEN it breaks, not IF.   I'm glad you snot-nosed punks don't like them. More for us, plus that keeps the prices from climbing more than they already have.👍
    • Bringing this thread back on topic. I just noticed the incredible lack of bright chrome across the entire new lineup. Even the Denali has tinted the brightwork in the grille and has none elsewhere. None of them have chrome bumpers. As far as I can tell there aren't even chrome mirror caps. I'm curious if this also happens out back? Are there no chrome rear bumpers either? This is quite the departure for GMC.
