Thinking of trading in my 14

I have a 2014 Sierra, and I had planned on keeping it this truck for a long time however, I feel as if this truck will always be plagued with minor issues that bug that crap out of me.

Since I bought the truck the rear end has been rebuilt, EPS has been replaced, brake booster under warranty. Then after 36k I my seat had the movement issue which I complained about before 36k miles but they could never reproduce until after the 36k miles. So I had to pay $200 for that fix. My condenser just went out on my truck which GM is covering some of the cost but I am paying $560 out of pocket to get it fixed. I was going to fix it myself but I have a GM $100 voucher so that puts me at $460 and just for the condenser and seals alone is $400 so it didn't make sense for me to do it.

Now on to the issues that I will not get fixed because I don't want to pay for them. The passenger seat moves like the drivers did but pops louder. My memory seats do not work as they should. My brake booster makes noise again (a whoosh sound) but still works so I just deal with it. The gas pedal flexes and creeks and cracks and is really annoying in traffic. My EPS started making its clicking noise shortly after my 36k mile warranty ended but it still works so I just deal with it.

I really loved this truck but I just don't want to be having to dump so much money into this thing and I have not even paid it off. Now I understand that these are mass produced trucks however, I really don't think that I should be having all of these issues so early on. Most of these issues have plagued the truck since it was new and I just dealt with it. But now with the condenser leaking like every other condenser really pisses me off, especially having to pay out of pocket. (I should have bought the GM extended warranty) Not to mention I have to wait for the high side discharge hose to start leaking before GM will fix that...

I looked up my truck value the NADA website and my truck which has been taken care of very well is worth about 31k trade in. So I am thinking about trading it in and trying to pick up a 17 Silverado.

What are some main issues to look for in the 17 year model trucks. I have read some threads about the transmission shudder and clunkiness but I am kinda used to the confused transmission feel in my 6 spd. Obviously I need to be aware of the chevy shake issue.

Anyone else feel this way about their trucks?

If you are going to be happier with a 17 I say do it. Any issues will be covered by your 3/36 warranty. Nobody likes a vehicle which nickel and dimes you constantly with repairs. Keep in mind the 2019 new body style will be out sometime next year. Just more food for thought.

Its easy to look at the cost of repairs as a reason to get a new vehicle. Really look at what the costs of repairs will be versus what it will cost you to upgrade. Many of the issues you have are present on the 2017. As Lgetz mentioned, might be worth waiting for the redesign.

I have never let any of my previous scare me away... I've always fixed and delt with the problems. Unless you really want a new truck.. I say keep it... gotta pay to play

You should use my 06 avalanche, you will appreciate your 14 much more. Rattleville!

Did you have this initial concern in writing? Whenever I have a suspected problem and the service department can't agree I make sure it is written on a service request. I was told several years ago by a dealer that they would honor the cost of a repair if I had identified that specific issue prior to the expiration of the warranty. I appreciate that this may have been a service adviser overstepping his customer relation skills and that there would be logical time limitations but I believe your example would have been a good test!

There's still issues with 17's. It happens. I'd wait to see what the 19 looks like.

Does it really matter if the same issues are present?

Of course. If his 14 has a loose seat frame and some 17's have the same issue, why would he trade it in for something that could have the same issues?

No way, this will be the last time I buy a 1st year model truck. I took my chances when I bought this one and I am not going to over exaggerate and say that I lost because the truck runs and drives great. I am just tired of all the little things that keeps going wrong with it. I should have bought the extended warranty and this would not be an issue for me, but I didn't.

But I would not say that I exactly won either. Again all these little things just annoy me. I am OCD when it comes to my truck. I have taken great care of it, I don't baby it but I sure as hell do not dog it and I am still getting these issues. Only reason I say I want to trade for a '17 is to start over and buy the extended warranty for the $1,700 they charge for it when you buy the truck. If that was the case I would probably have some of these issues fixed but have had my truck at the dealer more often.

I did document this issue with the dealer before my 36k mile warranty was up. I believe that I finally got the movement issued fixed around 42k or so. Allegedly GM paid for half of it and I paid around $175 for it. My service writer said that GM would not cover any more than that since it was out of warranty. I was so tired of it moving that I just said F it and told him to fix it.

When I complained about it two times while it was under warranty they kept telling me that they were not able to hear / feel the seat moving.

I'm in the same boat with my 2017, looked into trading it after only for months, for most of the same issues you have. I fixed the flexible gas pedal with a wedge of wood behind the bracket, but the vibrations and chuggle under light acceleration leave me preferring the relative smoothness of driving my 1984 GMC. I'd have gone into a brand new Ram a month ago, but the trade in only came within $3k of what I owe on this truck. I'll be revisiting the opportunity towards the end of the year to see if residual value and what I owe get more in line.

I hate my truck; looks great, but put together with duct tape and chewing gum. The pickup truck equivalent of an MTD lawn tractor.

Why would you place a block of wood behind the gas pedal bracket on a brand new truck? Did you read about this "fix" on the internet? You have a warranty and you should use it to fix anything that is loose, vibrates or chuggles. A new Ram or Ford will be prone to similar initial irritations.

I love the grass is always greener. Most of my neighbors and friends have switched over to our trucks. The guy next door had a brand new RAM and the push button start kept failing over and over. The only time I saw it moving was on a tow truck. :)

I had very few issues with my 2014 but have no regrets trading it on the 2016 which other than the Android Auto not working and it took three trips to get it fixed no real issues.

The 2016 came with 22 inch tires and better rubber for sure. The headlights and the built in trailer brake controller have made my life much better.

The fit an finish was on par with the 2014.

The 2016 also seems to get better millage winch I find odd.. given the larger heavier wheels.

It is a design flaw with no fix. There is slop in the pedal from where the plastic bracket flexes. A simple shim behind it eliminates that "delayed takeoff" feeling. I did it to mine and it made a huge difference. Coming from my 07, the pedal flex was very noticeable and annoying.
