ok i been doing a lot of reading on the intake page, and still feel lost, i dont want to say here take my money and find out that the gains wernt really worth it. i will be doing a custom tune as well (still on the fence i love my warranty but at the same time, i doubt it would do any good) since the truck needs it and gm wants a 100 plus and a week day to retune my truck (added 33" tires so mph is off some)

plus a catch can from elite.

so the big 3 i am looking at

airaid mit tube (most say its a hit and miss)

volant with the upgraded filter

s&b but the clear cover is oiled filter only

most expensive afe Momentum GT Pro 5R Intake System

Black bear did testing on most major intakes. The MIT tube actually had the least gains, where the momentum had the most.

The gains from a CAI/Intake tube won't be worth it. You might feel it with the AFE if you had a 6.2

I specifically added the MIT so I could add my Catch Can & CSS easier and clean up the engine bay.

The air intake upgrade is mostly for a cool growl. Don't get me wrong, I love the way it sounds.

Debatable performance improvement if any.

Does anyone put a full intake on drive for a few month then put the stock one back on??

I notice a huge difference.

My truck has almost no dead throttle syndrome with the full AirAid on.

I'm also getting better millage out of it not huge but better.

People seem to misunderstand it's not how much air you get in it's how much stable cooler air you get past that MAS airflow sensor.

That's when you see the numbers change when scanning the engine.

Big cone filters pull air in from all sides. That's why you see them on every modified thing out their.

That being said a tune will get you the most. Intakes and exhaust with a tune get you a little more.

The reality is it is expensive to pull just few extra HP out of a modern engine regardless.

It comes down to your preferences.

I just did my intake to help with how the engine accelerates and to deal with the throttle lag and I have never had an intake hurt an engine.

Ok to answer all questions i want to do this truck right plus since i gotten older somewhat only 23, I question my modding. Last truck 11 ram 1500 hemi i loved it tuned, over stock. Sad thing about that one was had to be careful in the rain. Could spin them pretty easy without trying

1. The 5.3 does seem under powered but runs great and its reliable at only 12k miles

2. I ask these questions because I haven't tried them or someone has thought of the same thing i am.

3. I called gm the other day for a speedometer recalibration they told me the price and they couldn't do it on a weekend and i cant take off for something that simple

4. I don't intend to aggravate anyone here. I am just trying to learn

5. I did see black bears testing but didn't quite understand it right now my iats at cursing is 2* above outside temp and i think max cfm is 3k?

What gearing do you have 3.08 or 3.42?

GM does not recalibrate tire sizes unless they are factory tire sizes. You need a wheel/tire size calibrator or via your custom tuning they should be able to change that. Don't waste your time at the dealer.

Thanks i have 3.42 on the 6speed.

I was told they could but i been reading it has to be a dealer brand tire, or they have to have to sell that size.

Going to order a catch can really soon instead of intake and a programer or should i not get a tune for it? And save myself 600 or is tuning the 5.3 really worth it? I know drivability is improved but trying to figure out if its worth the $600

Another thing what worries me with tuning

^the intune i2 failed during calibration update so i was without my truck for 3 days, but diablo sport did force it to update and it worked ever since unless it was operator error

Afe momentum gt and don't look back.

When I bought it almost 20 months ago. I bought the only one that had a carb complaint for California for a 2015... afe was expensive and I said he'll with it... fast forward to a couple months ago when black bear did there dyno.. and I happen to glance and see that this intake I bought performed the best.. yeah I did a fist pump.. anyways here is a video..

Not bad i did find a video on YouTube last night where a guy did a stock vs intake and flowmaster on the intake was a k and n hot intake and it dropped the 0-60 a decent amount

I have the afe momentum gt not sure if it made a huge difference but the truck sounds better and it looks better under the hood
