What is an acceptable about of shaking and bouncing?

Hello, I just purchased my first 2500hd Silverado after onwning only 1500's.

My 2500 bounces and shakes constantly at highway speeds. I know 2500's have a much heavier and stiffer suspension, but what is considered to be a "normal" amount of shaking and vibration when driving a 2500?

Does it drive he same when you first test drove it on the streets and freeway?

Concrete or Blacktop? Concrete roads can be real bad if the expansion joints are uneven in a 3/4 or 1 ton truck.

Hey everyone, thanks for the responses!

It's a brand new 2017 Silverado with the Duramax engine and Allison transmission. It has the LTZ package with the Rancho shocks and all the bells and whistles.

I'm driving on smooth roads, no pot holes or choppy repairs. I know when I hit a stretch of road with the expansion joints, I expect the truck to bounce when I drive over those parts.

When I'm on the interstate it just constantly shakes. No relief!

The truck now has 304 miles on it and the dealer says they can't open any kind of service ticket until I hit 500 miles on the odometer. They say that over time the suspension will "settle".

I think that's their way of saying that they are not going to do anything about it.

I just want to know how a 2500 is supposed to ride, is it supposed to feel like you are inside of a Sherman Willams paint shaker on a gravel road?

Oh, I forgot to mention, its a 3/4 ton truck.

On the test drive, the salesman only took me on windy back roads where I could not drive faster than 30mph. At 30 the truck drives fine!

The only time I feel any vibration is on concrete parts of I25 between Denver and Colorado Springs. When I cross from concrete to blacktop it goes away. On the same stretch of road in my car or my wifes Touareg I feel like I'm on a smooth road.

I still own a 2006 Silverado 1500wt and a Prius. Lol

My other vehicles drive like they are on clouds, but even on fresh blacktop the cab of the 2500 won't stop shaking.

That's what I'm going to do, I'm going to drive as many 2500's as I can and try to establish a base line.

I'm 90% sure I'm going to cut my losses and trade it in on a 1500WT. Oh well.

Man that is too bad. I came really close to buying the 2500HD Diesel myself because I really liked the cool hood scoop but after driving a bunch of them I just could not see putting up with the stiffer ride on a long term basis plus messing with the extra Diesel maintenance. I did not like the fact that the DEF filler is under the hood on the 17's maybe they have always been that way. I ended up with a 17 Ultimate with the std 6-6 bed and she rides like a dream so far (knock on wood) 900 miles so far.

That's a sweet ride man!

I really love the idea of the new 17 diesel trucks with the hood scoop, but just like you said, I just don't know if I can deal with that crappy ride and expensive maintenance.

Are you in East Tennessee by chance? I live in Johnson City. If you have any experience with dealerships in or around Johnson City, let me know!

Absolutely none is acceptable.

 

Why on God's green earth would anyone ever buy a new vehicle without a real test drive of at least a day or two in the same conditions you would use the vehicle each day.? These problem trucks are so easy to avoid with a good test drive.
