Straps that attach/hook to fenders?

Hi All,

2017 Silverado with a four panel cover over the bed ...I would like to find a set of straps to hold large items like mattresses down - they would need to hook onto the bottom edges of the fender wells ...

Does anyone have a source or idea on how to do this? I don't want any damage to the paint, so the "hooks" or brackets would need to be padded ...

Thanks!!

I would look more for something to hook onto the cover itself as even the moving/vibrations of a strap on the paint will cause damage very quickly.

By four panel cover, do you mean a canopy? If so, why not add a roof rack to the top of it? That would be a good option for tying items to the top.

"four panel cover over the bed"

Tonneau cover? If so I would remove it and use the rings already in place in the bed. Never fasten any strap to the arch of the wheel well.

Glad I'm not the only one confused by what the OP has on his truck

If it is a tonneau cover, they make "roof rack" style racking for those too. Just Google "tonneau cover roof rack" and there's lots of options.

Yes, but this wouldn't work with a GM... What a mess if he/she forgot and tried to drive off!

I worked in the lumber yard at menards during college. You wouldn't believe the stuff I seen, this is nothing

Hang around any Home Depot for 5 min. and you'll see some special loading strategies as well! A discussion on securing loads would make a good thread. Many people don't seem to have an appreciation for the forces that come into play with a moving vehicle. There is a comedian who jokes about the guy holding on to a mattress on the roof of his car while driving. I've actually seen this. Or what about the guy I saw standing in the pickup box holding a refrigerator while his buddy drives the "few blocks" to home!

Yeah, securing loads can be more of an art than most imagine...it also causes a heated discussions because some (myself included) go excessive on securing loads while others are minimalists.

It would be an excellent idea. I've heard of more than one person losing an eye when using the rubber tarp straps with the metal "S" hooks. They put tension on it and the end comes loose and then it's the start to a really bad day.

I don't know how many times I've been driving down the road and end up switching lanes because the person in front of me has a super sketchy "secured" load.

i was behind a guy three days ago and i could see the 'secured' lumber moving. he had long lengths of 2x4, 2x6, 1x4, 1x6 and it went from the top of the crew cab to the top of the tailgate and was so sketchy. i immediately changed lanes.

i don't know if he eventually lost anything, but not only was there side to side movement, but i could see it slowly 'sliding back' more and more past the end of his tailgate.

a little earlier that day a car passed me going the other direction with a couple of younger guys (late teens, early 20s) with a mattress strapped to the top of the car.. just 1 strap that looked like it wrapped all the way thru the car (thru the back windows). both guys had their arms up out the front windows trying to 'hold down' the front of the mattress to keep it from folding back over on itself. i laughed pretty good at that one as it brought a few fond memories from my youth!

It's all fun and games until someone gets a 2x4 through the windshield... :wtf:

Or this guy trying to get the HD associate to help him strap the grill on his roof. The associate wasn't having any of that. Sat there for a while watching him try different ways. That guy really wanted to grill and didn't have time to put one together.. Haha..
