Buy now or wait until 2019?

Well if rumors are true expect a diesel and we might see the 4.3 with a turbo. Rumors are the v-8 line will remain also. That said I would expect some great deals on the 18 as the 19 model gets close to its debut. Other than more aluminum don't see GM changing style very much as they already are probably the best styled trucks out there imo.

I would wait, as soon as the 19's come out, prices on used '14-'18 will fall. So the '19 will hold its value better over the long term.

Personal suggestion..buy a 2016 Silverado with a 6 speed, OR wait for the next gen pickups.

 

I don't regret buying my 2016, but build quality in a lot of areas leaves quite a bit to be desired.

As far as better trade now before the 19 comes out or your current truck is going to take a hit ? I doubt it because it is probably a safe bet 19 and beyond msrp's will be higher . Secondary market price will no doubt follow suit and remain healthy too. Good clean low to average mile used trucks up here in the Northeast bring good money.

Huh? The 14-18 will fall some (it isn't as big a drop as some think when a new model comes out) but when the next gen come out the '19+ will fall just like the 14-18's did, they won't magically hold their value anymore.

As with everybody nowadays...coming back to have a "Reflash" on computer for some component is nothing out of the ordinary? I doubt he is referring to 8 sets of tires,new TCM, BCU, Rear Axle, Springs, Ring and Pinion, Driveshaft or axles......maybe just Struts all around?

 

OK, I have never gone back on any new car/truck even 1st year runs for anything like this.......Petty computer "flashes" & broken vanity mirror headlight dying in 8months........Seat belt "Reflash" jeeesh BIG CRAZY STUFF GOING ON!

Wait if you want, it's your call but the probability of you coming back to Dealership for the unforeseen/Variables that will require attention on the first year for sure will happen.......It's never stopped me from buying a 1st year model run. Right now I am hitting the latter part of model runs and will continue. 2022 Silvy baby!

Why don't you compare prices of a '14 sierra vs a '13 sierra, or any manufacturer after a redesign....newer body style = worth more

Again, incorrect. For instance when the new Tacoma hit the floor, the previous generation value didnt tank. Same goes with GMs, Fords and RAM. If anything dealer inventory prices drop to clear room for the incoming model, but the residual value of the used market doesnt bottom out. There has been and will always be a used market for trucks. As others have said, with truck prices soaring above $50K, there will be those looking to spend around $30K for a good condition optioned out model. This doesnt change, there are 2007-2013s going for low to mid $20Ks all over the place....hardly thefloor dropping out of a 5-10 year old vehicle.

Long time follower, first time poster. I've been keeping up with the site for a while now and first off want to say thank you to all those who contribute and help provide great information. I'm in the market for a new truck, but not sure which model year to go with. My 2003 has treated me exceptionally well but about ready for an upgrade and have some questions.

 

The K2 Future Vehicle forum is dead so figured I'd ask some questions here. Realizing there is very little public yet about the redesigned 2019, what are the thoughts on buying now vs.. waiting for what the new 2019 models? What is the general consensus on powertrain options for 2019 or is it too early to tell yet? I hear nothing but great things about the 6.2 / 8 speed, but wondering what the engine / transmission options will be for 2019 and if it's worth holding out another year and a half? I'm also not a fan of the start/stop technology Ford is using in their 2018 and thinking GM may do the same which may tip the scales.

 

If you were in the market for a new truck would you wait until 2019 or buy a 2017 / 2018? Welcome any thoughts and comments.

You can wait for the new body style, or even still buy a 2019 in the old body style because they are still making the current truck for a couple more years.

The new trucks will be made at the current factory in Michigan and Canada is making the over flow of the current trucks tell sales go down.

No doubt there is a diesel but chances are is going to still be the same. It's cheaper for a company to change as little as possible on new model of vehicles because half the parts come from feeder factories it's too much work-time-money to re tool factories.

 

I bet there will be a 1500 diesel to help pass with Emissions, but testing doesn't mean it's coming by 2019.

Fort Wayne will be retooling also. The new trucks will be like a Camaro model change. Engines won't totally remain the same. Grab some popcorn and stay tuned [emoji897]
