Rear sensor removal

So as I'm under the truck for a few minutes getting things ready for my bumper swap I'm about to do, I see the rear parking sensors are just clipped into place. Can I unplug them and then plug them back in without any issues on the DIC? Or will I have to take it into a dealer to have them reset the parking sensors?? Was hoping to paint them while the bumper was being swapped out then plug back in after...

I dont think you can paint them. You shouldnt have any problems unplugging them and plugging them back in though.

I dont know this for sure but I was under the impression you cannot paint them. Don't take my word on this but somebody else asked about doing that once before and everybody told them not to paint them.

we paint aftermarket ones all the time to color match. just be careful not to do too many coats, and definitely no metallic either. and u should be good as far as disconnecting them

When I did my swap from chrome to black, I painted my sensors. No issues with disconnecting and reconnecting. You'll get an error in the DIC if they are not all reconnected back together.

Awesome thanks! So should I lightly sand. Them or wet sand them? Just double checking. The last thing I wanna do is screw them up

I think they're all plastic. I would remove them, wash in warm soapy water with a sponge, dry, use some wax and grease remover, spray some ADHESION PROMOTER, and then prime and paint.

 

Don't skip the adhesion promoter part. You could probably skip the primer part like I did on my grille, but if I could do it over again, I would probably use some primer on top of the plastic adhesion promoter.

I remember reading on the 900-series trucks that you need to disconnect the battery before unplugging the sensors otherwise they might need re-calibration. Shouldn't be an issue to paint them, some trucks do come with them painted and my Jeeps are painted too.

I think it is OK to paint them but I read something in the manual about the thickness of paint shouldn't exceed a certain amount. It's in the same area that says if dirt, snow or grime is built up, it will cause them to not work as should.
