I have a 92 low rider stroked blown Chevy, the latest in many high performance trucks and cars I've owned in the 45 years driving. Never been much for speeding, I just like the horsepower. There's been times I've been over the speed limit, anyone who drives has. Owning and talking speed doesn't translate to speeding.

I agree with you there's a time and a place. Only thing I'm saying is a lot of people.thing the 6.2 is the greatest thing since the wheel. And it's not

I finally towed the boat today with the 6.2. I retract my previous statement that the difference between it and the 5.3 isn't much. The 6.2 is a torque monster and spins the tires with anything over 1/4 throttle below 10 mph. The old 5.3 with a tune would barely break them loose mashing the throttle. Going up hills I could barely tell the boat was there.

Guys there is about a second difference in quarter mile between the 2. It's not close. The 5.3 although very solid is really just dated now vs all the other 5 liter v8 when it comes to power.

They are are not dated at all.

Current motors are old school architecturer with modern upgrades.

GM executives would need bodygaurds if they decided to ditch the small block. It is by far the most lengendary gasoline burning powerplant in history.

There is no bias in this at all, I love all forms of motors.

But...

Lets make a list of everything a motor can be good at

Power-

Efficiency-

Cost-

Physical size-

Weight-

Reliability-

Both the ecotec 5.3 and the 6.2 will beat every single motor ever made. Number 2 would be the LS series.

Honorable mention to the amg 6.2 L after they fixed the head bolt issue, and the coyote 5.0.

Does anyone have power/torque curves on both engines? Peak HP and torque across the rev range? How much does each make at 1500, 2500, 3500 . . . ? I searched when I was shopping a couple of years ago but didn't find what I was looking for.

Click the links to the Features And Specifications and it will show the torque and HP charts for both engines.

To those who think the 5.3L is dated are forgetting that it was a COMPLETELY new engine for 2014. I noticed some people comparing 07 and 2010 5.3L's to a 2014 6.2L, they are not at all a valid comparison. Yes, the 6.2L is faster, better HP and Torque, obviously... Its a bigger engine. But why are the 6.2 guys harping so much on the 5.3L? its still a great engine, I've got one and love it. Would I have liked a 6.2L? sure but not everyone can afford the LTZ trim. My little WT DC 5.3L 4X4 Blackout edition is still a sweet little truck, am I gonna win many races? no. Is it still a great vehicle to drive? I love it, but to each their own.

Also something else to note, the 6spd 5.3L is in the high 6's for 0-60 and the 8spd 5.3L is low 7's.

Based on the dynos, the 6.2 has nearly as much torque available at idle as the 5.3''s peak. Glad I have the 6.2 for towing. Of course I'd rather have a Duramax.

My 2016 regular cab has the 5.3 liter engine and I know it has 355 hp with direct injection but I don't know much more nor do I care as it runs better than any vehicle I have ever owned. It is mostly a city driven "grocery getter" and the heaviest I use it for is to pick up materials (plywood and mdf) for my business. I have not towed with it yet but we do plan to get a small 2 person trailer in the future and I have no doubt it will tow it just fine. The more than sufficient power/acceleration is necessary around here as it allows me the ability to quickly/safely get into already at speed traffic full of discourteous California drivers who don't know and/or don't care that the vehicle merging has the right of way. It's quick acceleration has also kept me from being rear ended by an Inattentive driver I realized was not slowing down as he quickly approached. I don't speed nor drive like an idiot around town however admittedly I do get a kick out of lighting up the tires once in a while when I am alone on a backroad. :D I didn't buy this truck to race so I don't care if it has more power/is faster than some other truck nor do I care what the 1/4 mile time may be. Do I really "need" the extra power of a 6.2L to do what I ask this truck to do? Highly doubtful but if it was available in a regular cab I probably would have paid the extra for it "just in case"! :)

I agree with this. If the 6.2 was available in an rc I would have bought it

I hope you're joking because it's incorrect. I know many drivers in CA seem to think the same though and never even check their mirrors when merging on the freeway.

In case you weren't kidding, this was copied from the CA driver handbook:

Space to Merge

Enter the freeway at or near the speed of traffic. (Remember that the maximum speed allowed is 65 mph on most freeways.) Do not stop before merging into freeway traffic, unless it is absolutely necessary. Freeway traffic has the right-of-way.

You don't need to say all that.

Nearly every car out there has different motor options, and all of them are "enough"

Nobody buys the upgraded motor because they need it, they just want it.

It's like reasoning with everyone you bought a 720p TV instead of a 1080p tv, we get it.

There's nothing wrong with a 720p TV and there's nothing wrong with the 5.3. My previous truck had a vortec 5.7 and I would have killed babies to have the new 5.3.

now that I'm a 6.2 owner, 5.3 owners are losers!

Had a brain fart on that one! I should have said freeway traffic cannot "insist" on the right of way and must allow you safe entry to the freeway. Around here if you end up next to someone while trying to merge they will more often than not intentionally try to keep you from getting in (numerous times I have seen merging traffic run out of ramp and have to come to a sudden stop because people won't let them in) and we also have quite a few of those drivers who never look or signal when merging. Interesting thing is when I drive in southern California it seems the drivers are much more courteous as I can't recall anyone ever blocking me from getting on the freeway down there however when I go to the bay area it seems worse than around here!
