First service tomorrow

At 6400 miles, I'm bringing my LT midnight DC in for its first service tomorrow morning which I understand will just be an oil change, tire rotation and a multi point inspection.

I've been very happy thus far with the 5.3 - 6 speed and I really have no complaints to report to the dealer. I am going to mention TSB #17-na-269 regarding the brightness of the backup camera at night. I believe there is one recall about child seat instructions missing from the owner's manual which means nothing to me.

I also requested quotes for the OEM mud guards and the driver side A pillar grab handle. If the quotes are reasonable, I may have those items installed while I'm there.

This is my first time dealing with this particular dealer for service. I did get a tour of the service department when I purchased the truck and was introduced to one of the service managers. I'm anticipating a smooth visit as I have no issues. Hopefully they can change the oil correctly, LOL! I will be checking it before I drive off.

If you plan on having this dealer do your maintenance it will be a good test run, especially if you have the goodies put on.

I have my first service appt tomorrow as well. I called to ask how much it would be to add full synthetic to the standard free oil change and they told me that GM now includes full synthetic...can anyone confirm this?

Thanks

Yep. Synthetic is now standard. If you go to a GM service department for your truck and they don't use synthetic I would be worried. If you change it yourself you can do whatever makes you happy, but the service departments should be using synthetic.

Do a complete walk around and check inside. Sometimes I will find random smug spots or something after I get it back from them. I make them clean it off before I leave. Its pretty typical for them to leave off valve stem caps as well, which I make them replace before leaving. It is small stuff, but I expect quality if I am paying for it just as other consumers expect you to perform a good service when doing your full-time job.

First service went smoothly. Everything is good. I was actually just outside the bay when they put the mudflaps on. I opted out of the a pillar grab handle as they wanted $80 labor to install it (for a 5-10 min job?), I'll pick one up and do it myself at some point.

Kool all 1st service people. Loco-diablo I'm also having my grab handle install tmwr by dealer $72 + tax installed so that'll be over $80 lol. Crazy thing is one arrived at my house today since the same dealer ordered the wrong part the first time so I ordered it myself, then dealer call me yesterday saying correct part is in grrrrrrr. Guess what showed up at my steps today? Gray driver side assist handle anyone? lol

30 bucks and 10 minutes to do your A pillar handle yourself.

Well about that. Seem like part # 23285090 holes do NOT line up with my 17 Sierra. Went to install today and dealer said the mount holes do not line up. So either those that install them are leaving a bolt out (using one), or my dealership is on something.

I will find out in a few as I'm going to try to install the one that arrived yesterday myself. I was just being lazy and din't mind the $23 to install considering what it cost me to purchase and ship to my house.

Mine fit like a glove, and all bolt holes lined up perfectly. I have a 2017 Sierra SLT Double Cab.

    • A complete delete is the most thorough mechanical solution, but it is also major engine work. On a quiet truck that is still under extended warranty, opening the engine purely as prevention is difficult to justify. A plug-in disabler stops commanded cylinder deactivation, but it does not remove or repair the collapsible lifters, so it should not be treated as failure insurance. I would keep the oil full, document the maintenance, and have any persistent tick, misfire, or loss of power diagnosed promptly. If the engine eventually has to come apart, that is the logical time to compare an OEM-style repair with a complete delete. The right choice depends on the truck’s symptoms, warranty status, expected ownership period, and whether the engine already needs to be opened. We explain that decision in more detail here—full disclosure, this is our own guide: https://www.bluev8.com/blogs/news/do-you-actually-need-an-afm-disabler   One exception: some 2021 L82/L84 trucks have RPO YK9, meaning cylinder deactivation was already disabled in the factory ECM; on those trucks a plug-in disabler is redundant, although the AFM/DFM hardware remains inside the engine.
    • Brought my 2015 Colorado into the dealership to check my touch screen issues, had that ghost touch thing happening. They said I needed a new touch screen and they could either order me one for $500. The lady at the service deck was nice enough to tell me I could order a touch screen online for less, she did stipulate that the touch screen had to be factory OEM, you can't pair an aftermarket screen to my radio seeing it was 2015, it had to be a GM factory OEM only. I found a few on Amazon and Ebay by the numbers on the back of the old screen, DJ080PA-01A GM# 22740886, Some said "OEM" in the description and others just said "Replacement". Would a replacement be the same as a OEM as long as it had the same numbers on the back of the screen? In some of the descriptions they also show different brand names but same numbers, is that an issue?
    • I have both but typically use the 4 legged walker (wheels on front, ski's on back).   The four wheeler is starting to be used on "longer" outdoor walks.  The 4 legged walker is particularly helpful in practicing good walking posture.  Both of my knees are at different stages of recovery and I'm trying to not develop poor habits.  I can actually manage with a cane but it's very difficult not to favor one leg over the other.  My PT recommends I continue with my 4 legged walker for a while.  Yesterday was four weeks since my last knee replacement and I'm excited about my progress to date.  It has been a hell of a rough journey so far but it is exciting to witness  systematic and continuous improvement.  I went for years watching the decline of my "mobility".  It seems that everyday now I am alerting my wife to something I can do now that I couldn't a day or two ago!  I encourage anyone facing the prospect of knee replacement to share any concerns with others who have had the surgery.  It isn't an instant fix but rather is a considerable amount of short term pain for long term gain.  Recovery time and pain levels vary for individuals post surgery but the end results are typically very positive and I've never encountered anyone regretting having had the surgery.
    • The lifter issue can be dealt with by shorter oil changes and quality oil IMO.
    • Got heavy rain, hail and light rain yesterday.
