GM Quality Survey

How many of you received this within a month or two of purchasing your trucks, and how many of you completed it?

Me personally, I did not complete it when it was first sent out and received the email below:

Dear Kenrick Harper,

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Peter Thom, and I am responsible for Quality at GM in North America. Our goal at GM is to provide our valued customers like yourself with nothing less than the best ownership experience.

We sent you an email last week asking for your feedback on your new GMC; if you have already completed the survey, thank you! If you have not yet completed the survey, please take a few minutes to do so as your feedback is very important to us. We truly appreciate your business and your trust in our company.

To help us further improve, your input is essential:

Providing feedback is simple:

  1. The following link will take you to the survey:
    https://gm-quality.com/GMC/406186844131
  2. Once there, click on the "Continue" button to begin.
  3. Please complete the survey no later than September 20.

If you already received a request for feedback regarding your dealership experience, please know that this is a different survey, specifically related to your opinions and experience with your GMC Sierra.

Please accept my assurance that information from this survey will be used for research and quality improvement purposes only. There will be no sales or marketing follow-up as a result of your response to the survey. GMC will share user information in accordance with the privacy policy in effect at the time the information is collected.

Thank you again for choosing GMC and taking the time to share your opinions.

Sincerely,

Peter Thom
Vice President, North America Quality
General Motors

MY RESPONSE:

Peter,

Thank you for the email and your interest in my opinion about the quality of my new vehicle. As an owner for about two months, I don't believe I have spent enough time with the vehicle to fairly evaluate its quality.
With that in mind, I did join a Sierra/Silverado forum, and although I have sold Chevrolets and Cadillacs for a few months, I am surprised to learn of the number of owners unhappy with the current 8 speed transmission clunky shifting issues. While I myself have experienced this at crawl speeds (stop and go traffic), it's still early in my ownership of my first GM product to evaluate it. I drive 110 miles per day for work, so I'll be happy to rate its quality several months from now as I accumulate mileage on this vehicle. Again, thanks for email and I look forward to sharing my candid review with you in the future.
Sincerely,
Kenrick
I believe this is a strategy and probably why GM has NOT acknowledged the transmission issues. All new buyers are probably still emotional about their new purchase and that's a good time to ask them to complete a quality survey. Like really!!! Your thoughts?

"Clunky shifting issues", how many transmission failures that actually disabled the vehicle can you provide? If it's defective it would obviously breakdown. If your unhappy with a trucks performance feel free to buy a Camary.

It's Tim,

You seem to be offended by my response. Defective? Is something wrong with your reading comprehension abilities? FYI in addition to minor clunky shifting at a low speeds, the unhappy transmission comment is from data right on this forum. Additionally, it's Camry not Camary

We are all just tinkled Pink after the First Date, First Marriage etc.....after time it's the crap I got screwed again!

I'll be waiting for the breakdown data...

He will provide the data right after you provide yours backing up the comment about the Z71 package. How many breakdowns, basket size, length of time waiting for tow/flatbed truck would be a good start.

I bought my truck on August 7th. I have yet to receive this survey regarding the initial quality of my truck. If I do, it shall rate exremely high, as did my 2013.

Understand it's initial quality, I still stand by by opinion that 2 months for a vehicle is hardly enough time to provide any meaningful feedback. But that's just me. As for my clunky transmission, that only happens at crawl speeds; bumper to bumper traffic. I'm on the interstate daily for work.

What you are talking about it ongoing. They already know about some of that stuff. They want to know did you need to go back to get things adjusted, that should have been right at the factory. What happened that day, are there others, do they need to look at their people, machines and a like. The transmission thing, that's a known with a to be determined fix.

dman1458 I'm not talking about anything. I just let him know the only minor issue I have others have complained about it as well. Don't get so defensive, GM don't need you to defend them. You need them to stand by their word. If you read my post there isn't a single bad thing I said about the truck that hasn't been written here for 10 pages. I chose this truck because I wanted to try domestic for the 1st time. Having sold Chevy and Cadillacs, I've grown to like the LTZ and High Country. I chose the GMC because it looks better TO ME. I know about all the problems the Chevy had because I've heard about them. Nothing here surprises me. What's interesting is that I'll be putting 36K miles on this truck per year. I've received 06 Silverado with 325K miles, and 05 Trailblazers with 285K (husband and wife trades). With that said, I know these vehicles are capable of running for a long time, but I guess forum members hate to hear shortcomings of XX brand on that specific forum.

For me, having worked at a dealership and knowing what these surveys are about, it ain't about them giving a shit about your issues just FYI.

I wholeheartedly disagree with this. (bold underscore)

2 months is a waaaay more than adequate amount of time to form a reasonably intelligent and informed opinion about the questions that are asked in that survey, as well as provide quite meaningful feedback. For the average truck buyer, that's about 3-5,000 miles. If you haven't figured things out by then, well, then god help ya.....

I did the survey about a month or month & a half after I took possession of my '17 Sierra. By then I had a pretty good idea about a lot of things about the truck. Not much has changed in my thoughts since then.

I also disagree with your position on the 8sp transmissions. There have been a few people grousing about them, but they are a very, very tiny majority relative to the 500,000 + units in service. Are there some issues? For sure. But not near as extensive as some folks make them out to be.

Well we can agree to disagree. I can do so respectfully.
