I'm looking at a used set now for a soon to be truck of mine (2018).  Mod looks easy enough, great video.  So i take it I should be able to move the boards in and out freely by hand when they are off the truck from the post above?   The set I'm looking at the owner says has a cracked motor housing but is still works.   I'm asking for pictures but what's the best source if I need to buy a replacement?

Thanks Phil for being such a rock star!

I just purchased a set of these running boards for my 2018 gmc 1500 elevation. The seller let me cut the plugs off his truck. (crazy guy lol) I am an automotive electrical technician and wiring is not a concern however, the running boards I purchased may be faulty.

The drivers board wont move freely by hand so I cant even pull it apart to bolt the unit on to the truck. The passenger board articulates freely off of the truck by hand which makes me concerned I may have a seized unit on the drivers board.

How should these move when power isn't attached?

I noticed the round pivot point on the drivers side board, closest to the rear tire, has slid down below where the wear line is for the pivot. I'm wondering if the old owner attempted to remove the running boards incorrectly and it just needs to be moved up to move freely again. Is there torque specs somewhere for these bolts as well?

Thanks for your time.

I just got done installing mine using a set that had a bad motor on the DS replacing the motor with one from a beat up set that had a good motor.  They will not move unless you loosent the two 6mm allen socket head bolts s that hold the arm to the motor/gearbacx shaft then the arm will rotate on the shaft and you can move them in or out as you like to install them.

Hi all, I am bringing this back up.  I am a relatively new member on here but had been following the site for a while.  I am a long time GM guy so this is a great site.

I just purchased a 2017 Sierra Denali.  It had steps but I quickly realized they had been retrofitted.  When I got it it did not have the inside switch, following this post I traced the wiring back and determined somebody (probably from here) had followed these steps and had the power wire plus the other two correctly in place at the front.  The steps came out when the door opened and retracted when closed but they would not go back the the rear setting.  I purchased the inside switch hoping that would solve my issue.  With the switch I can push it down and extend, push again and they will go all the way back.  I can hold it down to turn it off and on but still not "kick" button tri mode on either side.  I have tried turning them on and off and cycling them to no avail.

I believe I have confirmed the button is hooked up but sure cant get it to work.  Any ideas?

Thanks

Dave

unplug the loom that runs to the rear at the motor, and check for continuity across the 2 plug pins when someone pushes in the button.  If you don't have continuity you can remove the endcap with the switch in it with a phillips taking out 3 screws, unplug the cap from the inner harness and check for corrosion there - I would guess that's the problem.  If you have continuity at the pins the problem obviously is not the switch.

Long shot here. I believe I need a new passenger side motor, step is very slow going in and out sometimes doesn’t come out sometimes doesn’t retract all the way anybody know a good place to get one?

Hope someone can help.

Thanks
