How did you do?  Last week I discovered an advantage to having this work done by a professional.  For some reason (probably this thread) I was checking out my mirrors.  I pushed on the cap and noticed there was some give on the driver's side but not the same on the passenger side.  I mentioned it while at my dealer last week and they will be replacing due to broken clips.  (no charge)  They didn't try to blame me and I didn't try to blame them!

Giving it a shot either tonight or tomorrow. I'll let you know! I decided to let the body shop handle my mirror caps as I was afraid of breaking a clip. They said they'd do them for free in lieu of having to put the front air dam skirt back on (since I'm going to trip it before putting it back anyway)

The place I used was BEYOND reasonable IMO. They charged me $100 to take my front grille and lower skid plate cover off AND put it back on. Well worth it IMO as they knew what they were doing and would be able to replace any broken clips, etc. that may occur during the removal.

Where'd you get this done? I could do it myself for the most part, but I'm lazy :)
