Just out of curiosity what compression ratio did your race engine have and were you using either nitro or NO2?  Non-race engine rod throwing story: Way back when my brother had a friend with a bone stock 383 in a '68 Charger, after the rod made it's way out of the block and deflected by the inner fender well it bounced off the highway punching a fist sized hole through his gas tank, talk about adding insult to injury!

It was just a stock chevy 350 small block in a 75 Nova SS, ran the strictly stocks at the roundy rounds, Handling was more important than hp, I replaced it with a .30 over 350, 12.5-1 , 194 heads.  My friend wound his GTO a little to tight and put a connecting rod through the frame under the engine

I only had one engine issue in all the years I did test and tune. I was only interested in out performing my brothers. My one brother only raced one vehicle his 79 little red truck he bought new. I had more than a few. He had just changed the cam, added headers and changed to a 391 gear. I was playing with my latest a 69 dart GTS. Stock it ran 14.02. His stock was 15 in the quarter mile. The changes woke the little red more than I expected. I pulled him at the light granny shifted second. That wasn’t smart. He was coming causing me to hold second and flat shifting third keeping me just ahead. Flat shifting forth is when the bearing spun. I stayed in it beating him. It held together getting me home. For the next 6 months I still drove it around the block. Just when I was going to rebuild it someone gave me more than I had in it. Just when I noticed a 65 gto my next toy. Fun times when muscle cars were still around for cheap.

One of Dizzy's new tricks it to lock/unlock about three times before it will STAY locked. I understand.

I always check when I lock my vehicle doors. I don’t like to hear a beep or horn so I pull on the handle. The odyssey unlocks by putting your hand on the handle. When I first got it I thought it wouldn’t lock even though I heard it. That reminds me when I got our Z-28 in 1994. I thought it had an electrical problem. The radio stay on when you pulled out the key. Sitting in it I retrieved the owner’s manual. I pumped the window switch and it rolled down. Now I’m convinced I bought a problem car. While reaching for the manual my wife comes out of the house wondering what’s going on. I picked up take out. I explained the deal started leafing through the manual the radio turns off. Dinner is getting cold I try to roll up the window. It doesn’t go. I switch the key on the radio comes on. Frustrated I open the door the radio turns off. I hit the window button nothing happens. That’s when we figured it out. Reminds me of when my grandkids found a rotary phone in the play room closet. One asked where’s the camera?

    • Even tougher is the 5.0 / 302. That's what this one has.    https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   https://postimg.cc/4n3F3yzY   Just realized I had the airbox removed in the engine pic, lol.
    • Yep! This should be a pin somewhere as @pgamboa really dives into all of this. Thanks for reposting the link!
    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
