Why only 10 years?

I was at the dealer today and read in the book that the MyLink app and diagnostics emails only are good for 10 years with your vehicle if equipped....what do you do when it runs out?

Most service logs only go to 10years or 120K.

Anything that matters to me or I may need in the future I make hard copies of and keep a file. The cloud, servers, websites and companies can all cease to exist and don't have my interests or concerns at heart.

All german car owners learn and know, a hard copy of all sevice records and receipts is about the only way you can sell a german car. Lack of maintence on a german car can cost more than the car so selling points are a BIG concern and service records are mandatory.

Just how long is a manufacturer/dealer responsible for your vehicle?

I think they provide those two services for free for 10 years.   After that, you could purchase a plan and still receive those services.

They don't want us keeping them past 3-4 years...

They just don't want to be responsible for storing the data more than 10 years. If they said unlimited then they'd have to store the data indefinitely and keep the servers up and running forever even after they no longer have the service in newer vehicles or after they discontinue the service and come out with something better. I'm sure it's a restriction their legal department came up with, so they know their maximum liability for keeping the service up and running is 10 years after the last new vehicle that supports the service is sold.

Really unless you go ultra low miles your trucks gonna be pretty well used after ten years 20k miles x 10 years is 200k miles... I think most guys are ready to give 'er up after 200k on the clock.
