Also... whoever at GM decided it was a good idea to mount the 2019 side mirrors to the body... should be shot

I'd have to sit behind the wheel before I made a judgement call.. The current door position ain't so great IMO

I;m looking at a new RAM right now outside my office window! Laramie longhorn.. metal flake black with a football colored leather interior. Looks to be loaded with every conceivable option.  Very nice truck indeed.

I work down the road from a RAM dealer and I can tell you that the 2019's are not moving much.

Probably why they have been discounted roughly $9500 (see commercial).

I work right behind a Chevrolet dealership. They have had 6 new 2019s and 4 of them have sold in the past 2 days

2 high countries, 1 trail boss and 1 LTZ    2 LT's are left on the lot.

See? Nearly every single one of Rams "advantages" comes from features. Bigger touch screens, bigger sunroof, coolers in the floor, vented rear seats.........where are the mechanical advantages? Towing benefits? More power? Stuff that makes a truck a better TRUCK? My Ram mostly has failed me in the electronics dept requiring many trips to the dealer....and It's just a mid grade trim! I could imagine what happens when the 12" TV screen craps out, or the dial shifter fails (which they do all the time) and the air ride? Around here in the great white north its comical how many brand new Ram trucks have all or part of the air ride fail in cold weather causing a lowrider effect.

If GM responded similarly to Ram we would have no new towing tech, no new 10 speed transmission, no new inline 6 diesel, no 2.7 T4 option, no DFM (take it for what its worth I guess) and while we're at it lets go back to the numbers the 6.2 was putting out back in 2013 as its comparable to Rams output today. Ram left all its powertrain options be as they were in the past, no power bump for the Hemi, and no transmission changes (they now trail GM and Ford by 2 gears)

So, how happy would y'all be with a GM with a big TV, softer leather, pano sunroof, more funky coated trim bits on the dash (and not all of them are of high quality on the ram) a few more tech toys to impress the neighbours that you'll ultimately never use, and really, really bland styling?

I may have went with another Ram if the updated the engines and transmissions and did more with the exterior styling. I tow a bunch, go hunting, quading,  and generally use my rigs as a truck. GM has many features that i really like that have real benefits for use.

If I were GM, I would build a Cadillac version of these new trucks. Throw the 500+ Hp Twin Turbo caddy V8 in it, a world class interior with suede and leather slathered everywhere, put every-single- electronic gimmick known to man, make a sunroof big enough to drive a Fiat 500 through, a full independent rear suspension with magnetic ride on all four corners, and put a $100K plus tag on it. It'll blow every other truck out of the water while testing just how much folks will pay for a luxo truck. But I really hope they keep advancing the common guy trucks, leave the glitz and chrome for the Cadillac version.

Exactly!  Ain't fooling me Ram.....What about 10years from now?  How about 15-20......Folks it's not going to be the Ferd ecoboost or the Technology laden Ram....with leaking Panoramic roofs and non functioning screens of nothingness?  I will take the CHEVY any day of the week.  Everybody who rides in my 2016 or drive it all say the same thing....I wish my vehicle was this easy to operate?

I’ve owned a $hit load.of new GM trucks starting 40 years ago and have always tried to convince myself that they were wonderful. I hate Fords but for the last decade they have led in many ways including sales. Ram has come a long way in recent years and are closing the gap on GM & Ford. The thing I hate most about GM is the Warranty or lack of..... I keep my truck about 3 years and there are always small issues that they won’t fix.

My 2016 is at the dealer now for 4 issues that are repeats not fixed. I actually video issues that I can to prove they exist. Monday I drove to the dealership to demonstrate that my external temperature wasn’t working. As I expected it was OK when I dropped it off....intermittent issues are the worst.

GM requires that issues are such that the dealer can verify them...even though some are known and widely reported. Others are considered normal even though they really aren’t. I.e. driveline lash, wind noise drivers window, etc.

GM pays peanuts for diagnostics time and a dealer loses money on some issues trying to help the customer. There is no incentive for the mechanic since all work has preset time allowances. This is  the only way they can control costs and I assume similar in the industry.

My point is that a Quality assessment should be a bigger part of the buying decision and GM hasn’t had  good ratings for years. If you don’t care about minor things that don’t work then go for it. Major component failures are covered.  I love my quiet cab until I hit the road and get increasing wind noise. This will be my last custom order and I hate to say it but I’m going to test drive Ford and Ram this time.

The more i read about these new trucks the more I think of them as over engineered products with a confused target audience.

I really dont think they care as long as they sell.... But i sure wont be buying. My 2016 base sierra better last....

Why? Because it looks a little funky? I promise it was done for strategic reasons probably tied to aero, wind noise and mirror performance. Looks isn't everything (should actually manner very little in the decision process but that is all I hear complaints about and I can't help but laugh).

If GM wants to reach the podium top in truck sales, they need to beat Ford at pricing.

If RAM can do it so can GM.

The only ‘19s on the nearest dealership lot, are 25/3500s.  They are not advertising any ‘19 1500s.

When are they supposed to get to the dealerships?  Although, there are some great deals on the ‘18s and very few ‘17s left out there.

They've been arriving all over the US at the moment.  Cars.com has almost 1000 listed, some delivered to dealers and the dealers have pictures, some still in transit.

Depends on the location of the dealer.  Here in a small town they couldn't order one back in May like some dealers were allowed to.  One is on the lot now, a fully loaded LTZ sticker at $62k. So if you want discounts then i guess you need to travel the country to find and get them.  The dealer here  isn't gong to move off sticker for at least 6 months I would imagine, so they can get rid of the left over 2018's. The disadvantage to living in a rural area.

As for the mirrors, I'm sure it was all done via wind tunnel and noise factor, otherwise why change it.  Just wish they would have released towing mirror info.  You can get a Max Tow package but no information on what mirrors come with it.

One thing I'm surprised they still have on the trucks is the antenna.  Why?  Our 2016 Suburban doesn't have one on the right front fender.

Also all the complaints about not being able to get the 6.2 in other trim like the Trail Boss.  It all boils down to CAFE.  That is why Ford is only offering the Raptor engine in the F150 now but only in the top trim level from what I can tell.

CAFE in some instances is a joke.

Dodge can sell 700+ horsepower Hellcat's all day long but GM cannot put more 6.2L in trucks?

Granted more trucks are purchased than Hellcat's!

If you want a 6.2 in a Trail Boss configuration for now, look at the Sierra AT4 ( if you can get past the grille) :D

CAFE might be a joke but it is what it is and so it rules what can be done.  Sad but that is life.

Remember the GM has the Corvette and Camaro with low mpg's to sell so they have to watch what else they sell.  Other than the Hellcat and Demon what does Dodge have and like you said, how many are really sold compared to Corvettes and Camaros.

Hence why GM came out with the 4 cylinder for the trucks.  To please the CAFE group.

People like to claim Cafe is the reason for a lot of things, but it just doesn't hold much water.  It boils down to being more of GMs own agenda.

    • Fix one problem and find another.   Truck didn't have a thermostat in it so I flushed out the system today and refilled with 50/50 Dexcool. This truck is so old (LOL) that it has a sticker under the hood alerting people to the fact that it contains such. There is also an orange supplement with the owner's manual alerting the owner that "Your vehicle is one of a number of late production 1995 General Motors vehicles that use a newly developed engine coolant in the cooling system..."   I was still a little flummoxed by what seemed like a rich condition (exhaust smell, and a puff of carbon with a punchy rev). While watching the coolant temperature and testing the thermostat with my scanner, I happened to notice the IAT (incoming air temperature) to the intake was -40F. I know the temp is below average today, but I can still feel my face, and I was wearing shorts.   D'oh!! I realized I had never plugged the IAT back in, and the airbox was out while I was doing coolant. So I paused, reinstalled the airbox and plugged in the IAT, and viola. Things cleared right up, and I watched the coolant temp climb to a reported 198 degrees on the scanner (195 thermostat) and then it dropped to 194 (open) and then back up to 198 and held. Let it cool, came back, checked the coolant level and was satisifed.   Victory lap?   It needed more than the couple of gallons of gas I put in it from almost bone dry, so I ran it up to the gas station. It had earned it, or, at least I was pretty certain I wouldn't be draining or removing the tank anytime soon.   CEL popped on just as I was cruising a nice steady 40mph, just after coasting down a slight downhill curve.. Of course, it did, because, why let me enjoy not having dash emojis for a little while.   I just happened to have the scanner plugged in. I don't text and drive but I might scan and drive. Don't tell the police.   P0401, EGR flow insufficient.    Well, hello, EGR... ...my old friend! Welcome to the party, now that the engine reaches the factory-programmed operating temperature. I'm sure it was gagging on hostile, rich exhaust and carbon this whole time so I'll take it off and look again.   At least it's easily accessible, and worst case, about $65 to replace.   To keep, or to sell... Hmm. I want it running correctly either way. It's easier to sell when there are no fault codes.   It needs tires (they're aged out and cracking)   It could probably use an oil pan seal, or maybe the timing cover gasket/ junction with the pan needs redone because I've got an issue there that leaves a drop of oil on the floor.   If I do tires I'm sure they'll say the ball joints could use freshening, and, and, and, and.... At some point I'll have to stop. I can't (shouldn't) make it perfect, that's not what this rig is.
    • Take it back. That's about all you can do.  Mark
    • Gloss black would look better, but I'd paint match the grill before ditching the chrome bumpers.
    • Mine has done that since new. The colder the worse.
    • Yeah, that's my understanding. The newer trucks are 433Mhz vs the older 315Mhz TPMS. Putting these wheels on is costing me a small fortune, but so far, I'm still OK with it.    Next week the chrome bumpers are scheduled to be replaced with flat black ones. That would complete what the dealer still owes me.
