Passenger Airbag Option

Howdy.  New here.

 

We've gotten a deal worked out on a 3500HD and in the final hour my dear wife has halted the process worried about the passenger airbag option available but not on the truck we have the deal on.  Why are additional passenger airbags an option and a lower cost one at that?  Is the crash performance so good that GM decided to only offer these 6 passenger airbags as an option, or what?

Have you checked whether or not they are standard features on the model you've picked?

We're looking at Duramax LTZs and have seen many trucks of this level with and without this option on their window stickers.  

 

Standard Equipment states the following:

 

Safety-Interior

• Airbags, single-stage frontal and thorax side-impact, driver and front passenger, and roof-rail side-impact, front and rear outboard seating positions (Always use seat belts and child restraints. Children are safer when properly secured in a rear seat in the appropriate child restraint. See the Owner's Manual for more information.) 
• 2 airbags 
  • Front airbags work with the seat belt system to help reduce the risk of injury to the driver and right-front passenger if involved in a moderate to severe frontal impact

 

The $395 option reads:

 

Airbags, Single-stage frontal airbags for driver and front outboard passenger; Seat-mounted side impact airbags for driver and front outboard passenger; Head-curtain airbags for front and rear outboard seating positions 

 

It looks like the same thing, so how is it that some builds list and charge extra for the option, while some do not, all 2019 Duramax Plus, LTZ level trucks.

luck finding an answer there.
