Well I got my truck back today after 16 days. They first tried to do the TSB but it still leaked so they replaced the whole rear window. They claimed the water tested it. I don't have time to test it for a few days but I believe it's been all fixed. Nice to have her back.
Did they get all the sealant off they used on the first attempt?

So, I'm gonna get a bunch of shit for this.  I LOVE/LOVED my Silverado LTZ but this was the last straw.

Dealer had my truck 29 days.  I picked it up yesterday morning.

-My truck is white..white sealant all over the bed liner.  Not sure how that would come off.

-No sealant around the edge of the glass...a glass company did the rear window swap so they did a good job.

-Interior, headliner and seats are covered with greasy finger prints.  I found "extra" screws under the rear seat...no telling where those went.

-The headliner is effectively ruined...which means they'd have to replace it...which means the windshield and lane departure camera has to come out....which would be another month and would create these same problems again.

-It rained it's ass off last night even though they said it would remain inside.  Saw a few drops on the inside.  Nothing like it was, but it means we'd start the process all over.

-The dealer gave me a loaner...which means lemon law is a really grey area.

When I first got the truck, it sat at the dealer for 22 days because the front park assist camera was screwed up.  They didn't know how to work on the truck as it was so new.

So, unfortunately this beautiful 60k truck has been nothing but a headache and 2 dealers now have given me no indication that will change.

I traded it in yesterday and will hope for the best with another manufacturer.  I'll revisit Chevy in a couple of years when they work the bugs out a little more.  Truth be told, the problems are what they are...it was mainly the level of service that broke the relationship for me.  But hey...they did ask me to take care of them when the survey arrives.  Lol.

Queue the "good riddance" comments.  Lol.

Did you get killed on trade in? If I was made of money, mine would be gone already. I'm trying to get trade assistance so I won't lose my ass getting into a different truck.

Man that sucks. What did you trade it in on? Sometimes it is better to take a loss on something like that just be rid of the headache.

Technically yes...but it could have been worse.  Part of what tarnishes this truck's history for me is that the very week I got it, a 16 year old on her phone crashed into me.  Just a fender bender but did 11k worth of damage.

That being said, and given that it had a bad Carfax, I think the dealer overbid on my trade.  When I delivered the truck they tried to waffle on the price but I had it in writing...too bad for them.

So, it was an LTZ, with 6385 miles.  Sticker was originally 58,750.  I think I paid 53,950...something like that.  Dealer said there are no book values out yet so they had to take a guess.  They bid 43k on it.   I owed about 50k on it and I also got a diminished value check in the mail for about 4k.  So, I had 3k in negative equity.  The new truck I bought stickered for 73.8k.   So they had PLENTY of margin in that to knock a bit off(which they should do regardless of trade but you know how that goes).

All in all, it was worth the 3k(depending on how you look at it) to my wife and I to be rid of something that has been nothing but a source of stress for the last almost 5 months.  The car payment sucks anyway so may as well have something that actually sits in your driveway.  Also, I got in on the 0% for truck month and that was nice timing too.

One thing I learned...and this probably isn't new...but they offer trade in price based on what you are trading for.  If you trade your truck in on a 10k car, they aren't making shit on that new car so they are going to make it up by giving you crap on your trade in value.  You buy a car with a lot of margin and they give you a little more for your trade to give you that warm and fuzzy.

But, I think 10k off what I paid for a used truck, w/ 6k miles AND a bad Carfax isn't terrible considering you can get a new one now for about 50k if you buy at the right time.  If you wait a couple of months and the incentives start for them to get rid of the 19s to make room for the 20s, that price drops even more.  You get into the territory where they can't offer you what you want for the trade because you are so close to new price at that point, no one will buy your used truck.

Exactly.  Got a 2019 F-150 Limited.

I also drove the new Dodge 1500. REALLY nice truck but it's also the first year of the redesign just like the Silverado and I'm not going to sign up for that risk again.  That, plus they weren't running any financing incentives.  Ford had held the 0% for me.  So, with the Dodge, I would have been financing a less expensive truck, for MORE...AND it would have had interest.  So the less expensive truck would have been like 200 more/month give or take.  We really liked the Ford(we like all 3 trucks) and it made the most sense.  All in all I think we ended up financing about 68k on the Ford at 0% for 72 mo.

I looked around and don't see any sealant. Looks good so far.

Yikes.  The stories shared is exactly why I decided to perform the TSB myself after discovering I had a tainted/leaking rear window as well.  The estimated 1.5 hours shown to complete the TSB isn’t nearly enough time to do the repair properly.

The seal on the window seems to be doing its job (for me, at least), but I was able to clearly see the cracks in the sliding window channel allowing water to enter the cabin.  I suspect this would only get worse with time as the truck shifts and flexes from daily driving.  Just curious, for those of you who’ve gotten ‘revised’ windows installed, can you tell if there is a seal at the top of the rear window - or maybe a different material was used for the channel?

Well it rained all day. Checked the truck no leaks with the new window.

Today marks 14 days in the shop. They ordered new glass that got here on Monday. Ive heard about 37 excuses between then and now as to why the glass people haven’t shown up to the dealer to install. MAYBE, MAYBE, I’ll get lucky and get my truck back tomorrow. That’s if the glass people actually show up and there are no issues with the window.

For anyone in San Antonio, TX, Cavender of Boerne has been unpleasant to say the least.

I know the feeling. AutoNation Chevrolet Northpoint in the Roswell/Alpharetta GA area sucks balls.

Tomorrow marks 3 weeks since it went back to the shop, and 32 days total. I haven't even heard from them in 2.5 weeks.

I don't even remember what my truck looks like at this point.

I call the dealer every day asking for an update on what was completed and next steps. I fully realize Im going to get the run around half the time, but it makes me feel better :banghead: Hoping they annoyed with me calling and hurry the heck up.

Maybe I should take the loaner on a road trip this weekend and turn it back in with 3K miles.

Wow, that’s wild. My dealer traded with them to get my RST.

Sorry!

I bought my wife a 2019 RAM 1500 Laramie back in October for $48k after discounts.  This was after visiting a Chevrolet and GMC dealership about a new 2019 to replace my 2014 Silverado LTZ.  None of the GM dealers in the Raleigh, NC area would budge on their pricing back in October.

After reading about all of the issues with early build GMs, I am glad I could not get a deal.  We have had our Ram for 7 months and 11k miles now.  Have had zero problems.  But, in fairness, I didn't get the leak prone panoramic sunroof or the 12 inch Uconnect screen which were known issues at the time.

Guess I just got lucky.

I really want to trade our 2017 Buick Regal on either a new GMC or Chevy...  Because I miss my Silverado, even though it had the dreaded rear end shake.  Glad I have waited.  Hopefully, by the time I am ready to pull the trigger, they will have the bugs worked out of these new GMs.

    • www.enginelabs.com/news/what-i-learned-today-bearing-clearances-vs-oil-viscosities/     www.enginelabs.com/news/oil-viscosity-can-the-numbers-be-misleading/ The Big Lie… Coming full circle to the reason Lake discusses the Porsche engines in particular. Based on the 2000 samples in the SPEEDiagnostix database, increasing the oil viscosity in these engines, even those run on the track, showed no significant difference in results.   The smoking gun was in the oil chemistry. That is where the data shows higher instances of more wear. Molybdenum was the key; the higher the amount, the less the wear. Speed postulates that higher viscosity oils have more thickeners to artificially inflate their viscosity numbers. These thickeners lose viscosity under shear, and the result is that not all oils of the same viscosity have the same shear stability.   Having enough viscosity is the most important characteristic, but according to Speed, once that required viscosity level is reached, additive chemistry matters more than additional viscosity. Speed also states, oil pressure problems on the racetrack aren’t a viscosity problem; it’s an oiling system problem. Running a thicker oil is just a band-aid for an underlying oiling system problem.
    • Can it still be Assembled II?   Viscosity on the decline by various means. Heat on the rise making that worse. Engine RPM in the tank. Smaller motors with more boost trying to emulate an electric motor. Full torque, zero rpm. Then we will triple the OCI. Argh.    But wait....there is more. LSPI has pushed a shift from Ca to Mg and as that cost more PLUS the run to lower sulfur compounds the TBN is moving in the wrong direction for the increased OCI's demanded.    That not being enough to placate a demand for a parameter they can't measure the other sulfur bearing compounds are also under attack. That would be zinc and phosphorus sulfonate compounds. To some degree those are being replaced with boron esters and others, i.e. titanium ect. All of which have shorter service lives. And there there is the "Secrete Sauce" marketing for AW adds that 'Can't be detected by UOA's" but trust me because I (the blenders) never ever lie.    Spoiler alert; ALL additives are sacrificial! Smaller amounts of the old blended with less robust versions of the new do not equal longer service lives. So what are the blenders recommending? Wait for it.......   MOVING THE GOAL POSTS! OMG      Let's declare the long standing TAN/TBN crossover irrelevant and tell people that soot is a great 'graphite' based lubricant which can aid tribo films. Wait, what? Let's declare that the standards used for oxidation and nitration were to conservative and can be expanded. Let's tell them that because GDI fuel dilution, although being a VISCOSITY KILLER and an acid generator is actually okay because we have better base oils that limit viscosity failure limits. (Said knowing this is measured in fractions of a centipoise and in bases not commonly used in shelf oils)   Lying from the heart is not just the new normal but we have a public, a very young public, that is so ignorant of the facts and so sure of their "RESEARCH" into AI driven models base in regurgitated  instead of scientific research based unvarnished, peer reviewed FACTS that the incoming guard is loosing their grip on reality and the OEM's are tickled pink while the blends bend the knee.    You have an ever limited set of tools to work with. And sooner or later those will be taken from you as the API and the EPA strangle the last remaining fluids from the system. What you have left is your wits. If you care to use them.    At some point in the very near future it will not longer be possible to do "What is best for the machine", and be replaced with "The best you have access too". You WILL be rewarded with half the life and twice the cost. That isn't that hard to predict.
    • I trust you saw the other comment where he knew what he was talking about !. Yes, these darned newer vehicles with all their so smart they are stupid technology, goes and drains the battery down. As you might see my other comment, I installed a Noco 5 battery tender under the hood and at this point still have the cord routed so I have to lift the hood and then plug it in but am typically parked in a garage or a shed so its not risking the engine hood in the wind. That way I am assured or hopefully so of not finding I have a battery drawn down and can't even start the truck and that also damages the battery to draw it down too far.
    • I guess no surprise my guesses were wrong !, at least now I know if I ever happen to see it grayed out in my own truck as to what is going on.    I never happened to catch my truck with it grayed out, it seemed every time I would test to see if there was an update it never found anything and yet more than once I would check to see if there was an update and there was nothing, then a day later or even that same morning I would drive to town and after more than one engine shut down in town as I did my errands it would pop up that there is an update now ready to install and the only place I have a connection to the internet is at home by wifi so its not as if it grabbed the download while driving. I don't trust these new vehicles due to all the crap they can decide to do while sitting for some days not running and run the battery down so most of the time if I know the truck will sit for a few days I plug in the battery tender I have mounted under the hood and so the only time the truck must have downloaded software was when it was sitting in the garage where the signal is awful but I have that tender plugged in and somehow it managed to download it. I honestly detest all this crap, way to easy to leave a person stranded.    Since I don't trust any of it I don't do the install of the already downloaded software until I get home and sometimes have even sat in the truck to watch what its doing as its going through the process to its conclusion as its not like it is set up that it will tell you the next time you fire up the engine that the update that was initialed actually installed or installed properly. Yes I can go into the updates and see the list. After I go through the install where I feel its safe to do so in case it breaks down as a result, I will plug in the battery tender after the fact to recharge as I don't know how much power its taking just to do the install and that can take a while for it to install.
    • Thanks for the reply. All settings were correct and the engine was off, as it was supposed to be. It turned out to be something simple. I took a drive for about an hour. I must have had a low battery without knowing it. The voltage gauge on the display looked ok. At the end of my drive, I shut off the engine and the update prompt came up and it updated normally. It’s ironic because one of the features of the update is a reduction of battery drain.
