I contacted GM at 1-866-522-9559 and they were able to open up a case in which one of their "specialist" will contact me in two business days to start the buy back process. We'll see how this goes next week but at the very least it is another avenue to make some more noise.

There is an open case has been open for 5 months now was there today and still no fix engineers are working on a fix. buying this truck was the worst thing I have done.

I have talked to customer reps and even the buy back department today and get the shaft every time. So now I have a lawyer involved. I have been on this after the truck started doing this about 5 months ago.

Grabbed mine from the dealer and drove it during the warm weather last weekend and experienced no issues. Just got back in town and it’s 24... took the truck to dinner and within 2 minutes same error. Calling GM tonight or tomorrow to start the process to get them to buy it back and taking it back to the dealer to log the error again. Figured that might light a fire under someone’s ass if they have to buy it back.

Chad I have been trying to do this buy back with my truck and they said NO so I have a lawyer involved. They said that if it take a year to fix the that's when they will repair it. A lot of money for a truck that its embarrassing to drive with friend or even family. Look at the attachments this is what my truck is doing.

Ps the lawyer said they deal with car companies stall and said they will end up with my truck in the end

Sign me up with that lawyer I’m over this truck.  no confidence in the product especially when the company doesn’t want to fix it. Disgusted.

So they can’t guarantee they won’t charge you to fix their defective brand new truck? Something tells me that rep has no grasp on the situation. Obviously that’s absurd.

I’ve been playing phone tag with tier 2 GM customer service and getting nowhere quickly. I suspect they are just intentionally slow walking this because it’s almost spring anyway.

#PIT5648A: Trailer Disconnected Check Connection Message on DIC Without a Trailer Connected - (Feb 12, 2019)

With U1D - Advanced Trailering System

Some customers may comment on a "Trailer Disconnected Check Connection" message being displayed on the DIC without a trailer ever being connected,  message shown below.  In addition to this message, there may also be the following messages depending on the vehicle content:

  • Rear Park Assist Off
  • Lane Change Alert System Off
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert Off

This condition is more likely to occur with colder ambient temperatures.

GM Engineering is working on the root cause.

The Trailer Lighting Control Module monitors the trailer tail lamp, trailer Rt stop/turn lamp, and trailer Lt stop/turn lamp circuits to determine if a trailer is connected.  If the Trailer Lighting Control Module detects enough of a load on any one of these circuits, it may determine that a trailer has been connected.  If moisture/corrosions/etc. gets into either the trailer receptacle, or the Trailer Lighting Control Module connector, or if anything is left plugged into the trailer receptacle, like trailer adapters with built in test-LEDs, it may cause the module to think that a trailer is connected when there actually is not.

At this time, remove anything that has been left plugged into the trailer receptacle, such as a trailer adapter plug.  If the concern persists, inspect the following areas for any moisture, corrosion, etc.:

  • The 7-way / 4-way trailer receptacle X88, located at the rear bumper.
  • The chassis harness connector X1 that plugs into the trailer receptacle X88.
  • The Trailer Lighting Control Module K68 connector.

Clean and dry, repair and/or replace any connection issues which have moisture/corrosion present.  If, after performing these checks and the condition is not repaired, do not replace the Trailer Lighting Control Module.  Engineering is currently working on a correction.

Thanks for posting that, appreciate it. Interesting that they updated the TSB, but still no solution. Same troubleshooting steps they posted on the last one that did nothing the last time I had my truck in.

Yeh ok and its too complicated to tell us that they are working on the project instead of you will need another diagnostic at the dealer to continue the process and you gonna need to pay ... completely stupid well I hope they really work on it like they said !

Not to mention GM has known about the problem for like 6 months. What in the world could be taking so long? Entire vehicles have been developed in less time!

Is anybody else have problems with parking sensors? Mine is the front.

I had my first problems with this today driving in the snow.  The weird thing about it was,  it was only under 5mph.  Every time it would slow down, my sensors on my front passengers would start going off like I was about to hit something.  My camera would come on, and my seat would start vibrating.  As soon as I'd get above 5mph, it would shut off.  It was snowing, and the roads were bad at the time.  After work the roads were dry, and didn't have any problems.  Pretty annoying when its bumper to bumper, and your seat won't quit vibrating the whole time.

Yeah, I think that’s probably normal when it’s really sloppy out. Doesn’t take much snow or ice to block the sensors. If it’s snowing I turn the parking sensors off. Easy enough. Button is right next to auto stop that I also have to turn off every time.

    • It seems fine because it pulls everything out of a hot engine. I’m not going to worry about a thimble full with 5K oil changes with synthetic oil. Every other oil change is at Honda they pull the plug. I watch them through the process. It turns out going to Honda what amounts to their normal oil change intervals.
    • I tried tapping it.  This might sound like a dumb question, you should feel vibration or some type of noise when it turns on? Can someone please verify? Thank you all!
    • I feel better now for my own view point and actions or lack there of towards the dealership service theme reading your post and others. GM corporate is who offers the two free oil changes on the HD trucks and I bought my truck in Feb of 2025 and those oil change offers run out within 2 years I believe and I highly doubt I will be using either one of them. I had asked if I could officially give those free services to another customer ( a friend ) and they said no, its all a GM corporate thing based on the vehicle in question. What that service advisor did however was go into a little story about how such and such customer was denied engine warranty because he had done his own oil changes because then they are not documented ... you see where that goes and so an employee playing the game of scaring the customer into having the service work done there most certainly triggered my thought process. At a later date I did talk to the person who handles warranty claims at the dealership and she said to be sure to document the oil changes and keep receipts for the oil and filter ( coped the receipts from cases of Mobil oil and case of filters I bought from them ) and the vehicles VIN, the date of service, mileage etc and staple that together as a record I would give them if that was ever needed and I keep my own log book for services for each vehicle as well. Oh and about 8 months after I bought the truck the dealer starts calling me to offer a maintenance service since they haven't seen my vehicle show up on their system ... for the mere fee of 300.00 Canadian to change the oil and rotate the tires and a few other minor checks and I declined the offer, I get the call again a couple of months later for the same thing and she could tell I was not interested and she asked if they should take my name off the call list and I said yes, do that !.    By the way did you happen to keep your factory oil filter to open it up and see the surprises inside as I expect some will show up as per the odd little sliver of metal shaving and particles that the filter does trap along with bits of grey silicone sealer that come off of the inside edge of mating surfaces. I have cut open every filter so far on my truck although few miles but have changed the oil often and the second filter was vastly better with very little of anything, that first filter was the unsettling one as I expected it would be.
    • I get why they do this…but man…not ideal. I only extract on inboard boat engines because the drains are buried and even then I hate it because it’s easy to leave a quart behind with that method.   They should market it as an “oil refresh” not oil change!
    • I only get oil changed where I can watch. Valvoline pulls through the dipstick into a see thru glass. When done they show me the dipstick. About the only way they can mess up is using the wrong oil. But that secret wouldn’t stay secret long. Honda uses TQ wrenches on everything. You can watch through a plate glass window. Discount tires does that with tires. Trust but verify.
