Didnt mention financing the truck was asking if 28000 was a decent price . I leased this because i needed a pickup was coming from a tacoma wasnt sure if i was gonna like a full size truck (i love it) . I dont know how you guys are finding new 4wd crew cabs trucks for 28000 . Cheapest im seeing are high 30s low 40s in new york/new jersey  . Spoke to the dealer tonight said to wait till lease is over in a 2 months they can sell it to me for less than $28000 with the extended warrenty .

Probably a decent price for your area, couldnt find anything cheap on cars.com within 100 miles of 10001 zip code. Good luck.

We aren't...and you have a Double Cab, which is a lot cheaper than a Crew.  28k for a new Double Cab is doable for sure.

Correct me where I'm wrong, but if you lease truck for 3 years at 300 dollars a month, then buy it for 28,000 and finance it for another 5 years, you pay payments for 8 years? Dont make sense to me.

And what would it matter if you financed it for 700 a month or whatever the price is of the truck. Or you leased it for 3 years then took a finance and still paid the same. What’s the diff you still paid it in the end it don’t matter. You do what ever works for you there is no right or wrong it’s what works for you. That’s my point if we all agreed on one thing how boring would life be huh huh. Like I said I would rather lease a fully loaded truck for a cheaper payment a month then finance it still with a cheaper payment. Still with a full bumper to bumper warranty don’t matter how you do. In the end you can’t take it with you. God bless

Look at it this way. I leased a new truck for a payment that fit my budget, I am nearing retirement and trying to keep MONTHLY budget down. Lease is coming to an end, I look at another lease that will be more than my current lease. Looking at the best deals at the time for an identical truck, and the purchase is out of my monthly budget, and remember, looking to cut expenses with retirement coming up....Lease another truck would put me in the same boat, except this time, I'll be retired, or close to it. So, I start looking at what will fit my monthly budget (not leasing), and come to the conclusion a used truck will fit the budget and timeline, and the best used truck is the one I've been driving. I do not have a huge 401K, or other 6 or 7 figure accounts I can pull from.....life happens.....not saying we're going to be destitute, but need to look years ahead and be careful.

Incorrect. Interest payments.  Also the loss on the lease with the buyout vs purchasing up front. The full cash it cost to buy the truck at the end of all the payments is what really matters.  Those financing love your 3 years of leasing and 5 years of payments...lots of interest to collect.

If you’re paying anywhere near enough interest as to not be made up by investing your liquid, you got some shit credit, or not enough credit history to be buying new trucks. Money factor and interest is always negotiable as part of the deal.

He’s doing what’s right for him. I think he explained it very well in his original post. I think upgrading to get a 6.2 is a waste of money. That’s my opinion, tons disagree. I think having to put premium gas in a truck is a waste, again tons disagree. I think cylinder deactivation is a waste for what you gain, again tons disagree. He’ll probably keep that truck for a long time, in that case it definitely works for him.

Investors always say that. That interest is great until the market tanks...then you have no investment AND debt.  Zero debt and then investing is the safe route.

If you have more than a few thousand in debt, then you’re not in a place to be buying more than a small car or a very used vehicle. That was kind of a pre-requisite for the last statement. Unless you use the truck for work where it is a legitimate tax write off, a truck, and any toys you use it for, are luxury items. Paid by cash or otherwise. 1-2K in interest in 5 years doesn’t matter as that 40K purchase price was wasted on a depreciating asset.

1. He clearly stated his truck is a crew cab. 2. Although DC are cheaper than CC I'd like to know where your going to find a 4wd DC with any options at all for 28k new.
