The reason for the $7K hit on the value of the truck is because the truck has been registered and is now considered used. So the dealership can't take it back, fix the issue and sell it as a new vehicle, which means they can't use any of the GM rebates or low finance rates. It would have to be sold as a 'used' vehicle at used vehicle finance rates. So the sale price of the truck would have to be low enough so the payments on it (at used vehicle rates) would be lower than a new one, otherwise no one would ever buy it.

That doesn't make it right though. If this is a true 'buying it back" by GM themselves, there shouldn't be any loss for you in that short of time and low miles. If it is a dealer having to take it back and reverse the deal, then the above reason I mentioned would likely apply. I would make sure it is GM themselves buying it back and get 100% back.

Don’t let them bully you around. I personally would get a lawyer or contact the attorney general in your state which is free. If the AG is good I don’t think you will have anything to worry about. We have to bond together on this issue and make them fix the problem.

I have a 2017 1500 LTZ Z71 , for the past 6 months I’ve had braking issues. Reported it to the dealership . They found “nothing wrong” replaced brakes and rotors all around . Still lost the brakes and vacuum. Dealership calls to report the Safety Recall on the breaking system due to loss of power from the Vacuum pump . They did an software update . All is well for 1 week . No more grade braking activated warnings , throttle is very responsive and so are the brakes . I lost all brakes again , called the dealership and they refuse to help me because “ the recall was not a safety brake recall at all and it must be the driver “ ! WTF noooo . I had to replace the brakes again!!! This morning brakes failed going down a mountain roadway that always engages the grade braking system, today it did not and I had to manually downshift the gears to slow the truck , all 4 wheels smoking and brake pedal shaking and no power. Pulled over by local police at the bottom because he wanted to make sure I could stop the truck as he saw the smoke . I called the dealership and they said to bring it in Wednesday (4)days from now and they will check it but once again they never claim to have down any work to my truck for a safety recall . Yes l have the paperwork in hand .

30 days in the shop plus the fact they currently cannot fix the truck due to parts is a perfect lemon law case. Every state is different but just like me, GM will continue to jerk you around and do whatever is in THEIR best interest.

My vehicle is now been in the shop 40 out of 41 days owning it with a Brake System Failure. This is pathetic and like you said GM will not do anything.

They have  some of the worse customer service I have ever dealt with. From not calling me back and screening my phone number when I called. It was a joke.

You’re definitely right about that. They don’t care until the NHTSA get involved I think we are all screwed. You should call and file a complaint. 888-327-4236 they were the ones that made GM recall the 14 -18 models.

Has anyone had a vehicle fixed yet or what is GM doing?  Mine has now been in the garage 45 out of 46 days I’ve owned it.

To give everyone an update.  The dealer replaced the master cylinder and brake controller on my truck and returned it to me  Tuesday the 25th which as a result means they had my truck for two weeks while it was waiting on parts.  After driving the truck about 10 miles with the truck Tuesday it lost brake assist and is now back at the dealership with no ETA.  This isn't looking very good from my perspective.  Has anyone else out there had there master cylinder replaced and is still experiencing the same issue?

Any updates?

Wish me luck then. I have a 12 hour trip on Saturday (one way only) then back a few days afterwards. Then I’m moving a 9000 lbs travel trailer. I’ve had my brake issue already so I hope it doesn’t repeat itself.

All they did to fix mine was bleed the brakes a few times and reprogram the computer...

how did the trip go?  Did you make it down and back safe?

Good morning Philip!

Success! 23 hours of driving in 3 days then the RVs were switched out. No brake issues and the 6.2 did surprisingly well and fuel economy. Around 10.8L/100km and 15 hauling the RV. No further brake issues yet.

Cheers

Hey guys and girls.  I after getting my truck back from the dealership once they replaced the master cylinder and still had issues with the brake controller.  GM advised the dealer to re bleed the system. I have had the truck back for a week now and everything is going well.  I am even seeing slightly better fuel mileage which could be due to the cooler temp in my area or maybe I am just afraid to lean into the gas pedal like before, who knows. I wish you all the best!

Wow!  Who do you know to get a part in 2 weeks?  I have been waiting since August 14th!

You sure were lucky to get a part that quick. We have heard nothing but no parts since day 1.  My dealership has been great but I had to go to Twitter to get GM to escalate.  I do have a GM rep that keeps in touch but often time the dealership is way ahead of GM on the information.  I hope works with your truck.  No one deserves to pay this much for a vehicle and then cannot drive it.

Day 57 and no end in sight!  ?  GM says they have a part in a warehouse and are "trying" to get to my dealership.  Anyone live near a GM warehouse?  I will send you a UPS label and maybe you can show them how to put it on the box. ?

It is really getting funny at this point.

I don't really know any one at GM, But I did call customer service here in Warren Michigan which is where all the US engineers are located, and asked they very very nicely to please do anything that can to help me.  I highly doubt they did anything special for me but who knows it is worth a try for any one still waiting on their parts.  Also I am located here in Michigan so I don't know if that has anything to do with it but maybe that helped as well.  I wish you all the best of luck, and hope you are reunited with your trucks very soon.

This is a scary situation. I purchased a preowned AT4 Sierra with 4K miles on it. Before I put 1000 miles on it, I switched the front and rear brakes out for the Brembo upgrade. I was riding down the street and heard a sound like I ran over something in the street however I didn’t. No issues until the following day I was backing out of a parking space and no brakes. Brake fluid is full and no appearance as any lines are severed. I’m not taking that truck back until I have a new set of brakes and a full explanation to what happened.
