Dash pad swelling 2018 GMC Sierra

My 2015 had it on the drivers side exactly where yours is as well as the passenger side which is the same place as my 2018 in my picture above. Luckily I only have the one in my 2018 and it's not as noticeable as my 2015 was.

I was tempted to do the same, but any warranty work be quickly voided. I asked the dealer that sold me the truck if they could do something like that and they had a real good laugh, while we were discussing the dash I brought up the question of a display screen protector, the loaner vehicles have them to prevent scratches and fingerprints-OH NO!!! you cant stick that on the display screen!!! You will void the warranty!! They explained they can do it to loaner vehicles because they haven't been sold-YET

An elderly guy was in the shop waiting room for the same thing, he was going to caulk him.......I couldn't do it to a brand new truck

FYI Don't buy a dealer loaner or demo truck from south Louisiana - I may have been driving it!!!

These are super easy to install and just as easy to remove it they were serious about voiding a warranty????? That's like saying wax will void the paintwork warranty.....

Mine has that I’m extreme cold, then when it warms up it goes back to normal

Huge outcry? There are a couple small threads but nothing that's going to get GM's attention. The only way you would be able to get any manufacturer's attention is with a class action lawsuit. That would require enough people to join in and the issue be big enough to get a law firm to represent you. You might be better off trying to fix it yourself.

I mean, if the 2015-present F-150/250/350 dash warp isn't bad enough for Ford to care and law firms aren't jumping at the chance to form a lawsuit, then you probably won't get far with the warp you're talking about. I mean, Ford has known about their dash warp since early 2015 and they still haven't done anything to change it:

The dash piece can rattle in the clips when temps are very cold (~0 deg F). The proper fix is the put a piece of felt on each of the metal clips that holds the panel in place.

Now just for S&G go back and look at the 2007-2013 Avalanche, Suburban, Yukon and Escalade...notorious for cracked dashboards (by the instrument cluster brow and the passenger side airbag) and short of a few people getting new dash boards that later cracked GM didn't do squat so a buy back is probably wishful thinking at best. Like I mentioned before and like @HondaHawkGT stated, gonna take a lot before GM does a thing...trust me I know it sucks, my garaged 2008 Avalanche with carpeted dash cover cracked in both trouble spots...the best I was ever offered was a 70/30 split on replacement cost...guess who would have gotten the 70%? To top it all off, they would replace it with the exact same dash piece that would surely crack again ?

There is a clause in the fine print for rentals that encourages you to drive them like you stole them. Best way to find out the limits of the vehicle before you buy "yours".

My guess is.....You, is there a prize involved in this? How many miles when you attempted to have it fixed?

40Kish and good guess...I really don’t know when it cracked. I bought a dash cover when it was new, I’m not an Armor All fan so I never really touched the dash. I found out through an Avalanche forum, went and looked and dang if it wasn’t cracked. I was really surprised because it was garaged and had the cover...oh well, it’s gone now. Oh sorry no prize ?

Well, I am disappointed about the prize....At least they offered something, better than the standard middle finger. Has anyone posted a picture of the new dashes "swelling" on here? Curious to see what it looks like. Never mind, found them.

I have entertained the thought of a GM buy back if they cant get this right, not quite sure how that works.

I mentioned this to the selling dealer, I guess that was the wrong thing to say as they wont acknowledge my existence now, no reply to phone calls, e-mails, no a thing.

GM Corp. isnt any help with this rogue dealer, GM says they just sell the vehicles to the dealers and all they are on the hook for is the factory warranty, and any issues that arise during that period like the dash. Dealer can crap on you after the sale and they cant or wont do a thing.

Buy back is not easy. They will need to try and fix it x amount of times before they will start the process. If you feel this is the route you want to go, first thing is open a claim with GM customer service, take all of the information that they give (case number, reps name, etc..), and then be patient. Which ever dealer that is doing the work will find out what you are attempting to do, but just kiss their butts as much as you can, they control your destiny, also see if you can find out who is the district service rep (from GM) for the dealership and attempt to speak with them.

Cracking dashes? Is it the early 90s again?

I live in Florida and my truck sits in a carport overnight, but bakes while I'm at work. I've never swelled and cracked the dash on a K2, let alone my GMT800 Tahoe I had forever and a day, and that Tahoe lived its entire life in the Florida sun.

Honestly, I do not think the dashes are "swelling", think it is the trim piece in the front. Materials have a tendency to grow and shrink with the environments that they are introduced to.

Absolutely. As a mechanical engineer, I have seen such behavior at the macro and micro level. I'm just shocked to see that dashes are still acting this way. With proper fastener hole tolerancing, it should not be an issue. I've never seen it in the 5 years I've owned K2 trucks.
