Remote key start question

I find that my Keychain romote start does not work that great.

It does work but it will not go through the house wall to start my truck. 

It seems that I have to be in a direct line of site for it to work. 

If I can't point the remote start at the truck and see it then it does not work.

Do I need to bring it to the dealer or is this an issue that everyone is having?

Might be time for that gm app so you can use your phone when your farther away.

I have that app right now for a 30 day trail period and it works great. I did not want to pay $14 a month to keep it going just to remote start my truck. I  expected the keychain remote to work better.

I tried my FOB remote start today from inside a building but not too far away and it didn't work, tried the chin trick too, still nothing, walked outside, about the same distance away and it worked. For the amount of times I need to start it when it's out of sight the Onstar app is way too expensive.

how new is your truck/ remote? does it need a new battery?

 

I could remote start my truck from inside my house, and the truck was in a detached garage. So it worked 50' away through 2 walls.

 

line of sight outside, it works over 100' away.

 

try holding the fob right up to your head and pushing the button to extend your range.

The new plan that allows use of the app is $15 per month. This is for after the free "basic plan" has expired that we used to get for 5 years.

 

I agree, I will not pay that when my free plan expires either.

I had 3 months...for $180 a year...I'll skip it too

I'd be willing to pay $180 one time to use the app as long as I own my truck. haha.

That or $1 for each use. $15 a month is a joke and I think they know it.

Wait the GM app for remote start is now a paid feature? I thought other features were paid and remote start was a free option on the app?

I know in 2015 there was a bug that would permanently enable it as long as you used the remote start in the first 30 days then cancelled.. I guess they fixed that by now

Thanks everyone who replied on this.

I found out what the problem was.

I had a third party dash cam on the dash of the truck and that was what was causing the issue.

Once I unplugged the dash cam everything started working properly again.

The dash cam must have been sending out a signal that was interfering with the remote start signal.

I was also having a problem with the remote garage door opener working when my truck was parked in the garage but once I unplugged the dash cam, that started working properly too.

Just a heads up for everyone interested: if you call onstar and ask for just the remote key fob part of the app, its 9.99 a month. it won't be selectable from any menu on the site or app to purchase, but they will offer it over the phone.i still consider it a ripoff, but its a cheaper option for what used to be free for 5 years.
