Gear change?

Recommended Posts

I have a 4.5” lift with 295s and the 3.09 gears with a diablo tune. I’m honestly pretty disappointed with the power. I know I should have found a 3.42 when I got it. And I’m not going down in tires.

How much do do you guys think it would take to have new gears put in? Would I give with the 3.73 that the duramax has?

I used to have an LMM and I could have he cruise at 80 going up a steep hill and it would never downshift.

Love the truck, just looking at options. Thanks

4wd: 2,000-2,500

I’d go 4.10

our gas motors will never have the power of the big boy diesels, even with the gear change

Ok thanks. I think my big modding days are over. I really don’t want to spend that kind of money to make my truck a little faster. Next time I’ll get the 6.2

My 2018 CC 6.2 came with the 323, after lift and 34” tires I immediately noticed a acceleration and braking difference, added a SuperChips programmer and did notice an increase in performance with it along with recalibrated tire size, AFM along with the speed limiter. Your gears and mine are pretty much designed for fuel economy and that’s it. My 14 5.3 had horrible gas mileage while towing a 7K# trailer giving me an average of 4.5 mpg having to fill up multiple times for a 250 mile trip. My DMax with outstanding towing a 12K# trailer giving me 13mpg.

If you’re looking to tow, I’d definitely look into a DMax especially with the new body style coming out you’ll get a great deal on the current ones.

This is the new 2020 Chevy DMax, soon heading to your local dealerships!

I loved my duramax, but it was just a toy. I never tow. I lifted it 6” with 35s and with a tune you wouldn’t even notice it.

Plus i I missed that gas engine sound and the cost of the duramax makes it probably in my rear view mirror for good

I had 4.56's installed a few weeks ago and it cost me $2250.  Best money Ive spent on the truck to date

You're probably looking at $2000 - $2500 to gear swap a 4wd truck.  What increases your price is that you have to change the front carrier and rear G80 due to the new gears not fitting.  You could probably do it cheaper if you shopped around and found deals on parts.  How tall do you 295s measure?  Which trans do you have, 6 or 8 speed?

They come out to 34.57” unloaded. Not sure about weighted down. I have the six speed

4.10s with the 6 speed and a 5.3 would be pretty great, and make your truck feel alot lighter on it's feet.  Your fuel mileage will drastically improve too, and you will actually be able to stay in 6th gear on the highway.  On my 07' 5.3 I went from 3.73 to 4.56 gears with 33s, but that was a 4l65e trans, and it was a night and day difference.
