Is ceramic tint like polarized sunglasses?

How does it work? I always thought it was just marketing BS but you gentlemen say it’s a dramatic improvement?

Thanks guys
Pete

Ceramic tint helps reject infared and UV energy from coming through the window. Regular tints are designed to only block visible light.

I paid $160 for llumar CTX 50% on the front windows. Just that was enough to bring temps down. I wish I would have had the rear windows done too.

Great info

Thanks HondaHawk for breakdown.

So it sounds like if you can find it at a reasonable cost it would be a nice upgrade!

I am jealous i live in New York and you won't pass inspection with any tint on you windows. Truck would look so much better with front windows tinted.

I agree it’s def better thank god NJ did something right and don’t inspect anymore lol. What about a local place maybe they will over look the tint.

Ceramic is for sure worth it’s weight but just too expensive for my taste. I tinted all my windows except the front windshield all for 140. Ceramic would have been about 950+.

are you serious?!?!?  over 950 for a damn tint job?  holy hell!>

as far as for the OP-what almost everyone has said, if you go to a reputable shop, just tell them match the back and put a front brow on, and you would be good to go...I did the same...when i was younger and got a brow on my first truck it was for looks...I didn't realize how much sun protection it was...now i get them on all my trucks...

Just last week I had them tint over the rear window. There was still a lot of light coming in even with a strip on the front. I def think my 15 double cab was darker. Now it’s a lot better def less light on the back and sides. When I had it tinted they said tint the windshield. I was never a fan of tinting the whole thing.

Ready! I grew up in NJ. Use to be hell getting inspected. Used to drive to a hanger looking building. Get out and they drive it through. If you put duals on a vehicle that didn’t have the option, they failed it. No oversized tires, lifted or lowered allowed. I went to school with guys that would switch engines to pass. They just started letting service stations do the re-inspection on failed vehicles in the late 70s when we moved.

That’s what I paid for mine. Only like $20 more than the “regular” tint

Yes lol the dreadful Nj inspection stations lol. They use to put cars on these pads and test the shocks what a joke. They would fail a air freshener hanging lol. Hated Inspections now you can go through with no windshield they will slap the inspection sticker on your forehead lolololol.

It is better to remove the old tinting because it will not be able to stick to a new one. According to the law, it is allowed to tint the front side windows, provided their degree of light transmission will be 30-35%. Still, this degree of tinting will be very difficult to drive at night. I have the front windows that are not heavily tinted, and I decided not to tint the rear. To protect my child from ultraviolet light, I bought a curtain here http://snapshades.com.au. This curtain is very comfortable and does its job.

After we got my truck we took a road trip down to AZ to take my mother-in-law back (she stayed with use for a month) and visit my parents. While there I took my truck in to the shop that did my previous vehicles. I got 5% on back and rear sides and 20% on the front sides. Down there it’s not just about heat rejection, but keep from getting blinded from the intense light. Up in WA it’s cool enough where I don’t need the ceramic, so I just went with the tint. Yes at night you can’t see s**t out the windows but I also don’t have to worry about people behind me with bright LED lights blinding me either.

I have 35% ceramic all around mine and it makes a HUGE difference with the heat! A week ago, there was a nasty heat wave in southern California but I was able to drive around with the A/C fan speed set at the lowest setting. It no longer gets really hot inside quickly, I have 3M Crystalline which is not ceramic, but it's heat-rejecting and patented by 3M. I am now a firm believer.

I don't drive much at nights, only in the daytime, and I only drive about 3,000 miles a year, so this was perfect. I live in the city where everything's lit at nights so it's no big deal. The windows look black but when you're inside, it's not that bad.

Typical sunglasses are darker at 20% to 30% VLT while mine's at 35% VLT. Now that I am filtering out heat radiation, I don't have to worry about premature wear on my dashboard.

Hoping for some advice on what I should be looking at.
    • The truck is a 1995 Chevrolet S10 Blazer, 4.3 VIN "W" engine. :cracks knuckles:   On a whim - because I needed a headache - this truck was for sale so I stopped to take a look. Doesn't run. Well, it does, but barely. Long crank, choppy idle, bad misfire(s), it REEKS of fuel. I can DO this..I'm thinking. Diamond in the rough. One owner until last year. A young guy is selling it, he bought it 6 months ago. It stranded him more than once, he's got a newborn. It was in the shop 10 days ago and he "thinks" they said it needs a new fuel injection system. He can't put any more money into it, needs it gone. I was thinking of upgrading my Macbook, which is a total want, not a need. For less than the price of a new laptop I can have fun for months tinkering on this truck and enjoying it. I'm taking this truck home. The guy was beyond thrilled, his wife was there, she thanked me profusely, I could tell they were hurting. They seemed like good people in a bind.   Some parts, a wash, maybe a set of tires, and I can have a few months of fun and then turn it for beer money (or the next project).   Sure enough, there's a work order from a shop last week in the INCHES of paperwork on this truck dating back to when the first owner bought it. They put a new distributor in it, fuel injection work describes basically opening the plenum and putting it back together. He said he couldn't afford any more work so he had them button it up and that's when he put it up for sale.   I'm not well versed in 4.3. I did discover 1995 uses the 1992-1995 SCPI "Spider" injector which is riddled with issues from splitting lines, clogged or cracked poppet valves and plastic spider legs that crumble over time. Cool. I'll just order me a ne---. Oh, the auto parts store doesn't have it? Rock Auto doesn't have it. eBay? $$$$$$ for used. These are UNAVAILABLE period end of story unless you know "a guy" who's still got one in a box somewhere.   Can't upgrade to the '96-'04 injector, it's a different plenum, wiring/pinout and sensor config.   There are a few kinda "know a guy" -guy rebuild services for these injectors out there for about $350. Okay, Okay... I'd like to know if anyone has used them? Anyone got a lead on these crappy 92-95 spiders?   I also don't want to send MY spider to Narnia and back without knowing if that's truly the problem. I guess I'll need to pull apart the plenum and do some digging.   I was also thrown for a loop. This 1995 model year truck has an OBD-II connector. The interface is decidedly not OBD-II. I can read and reset trouble codes and view live data, but there's not a lot of data. Like misfire count and on what cylinder, that's not there. It's OBD-1.5.   Nothing is ever easy. Now it makes sense why this guy wanted to disappear this thing for cheap. I'm guessing the shop told him the injector is toast, the part is unobtainable and they're not going to sort sending the thing to a rando offering rebuild service on craigslist, and the kid likely can't be without a working car for 3 weeks even if they'd facilitate that.   Experience with these early SCPI's? Stories? Things to check? Sympathy? (..Nah...)   This can sit until I sort it. But I haven't had a problem with a vehicle I couldn't easily solve in a long time.
