2018 Chevrolet 2500 HD rear tire spin

I recently purchased a 2018 Chevrolet 2500 HD with 6.0l gas engine with 4.10 gears.  I recently noticed that after making a right turn and having to really get into gas due to traffic that rear tire/tires would not spin.   I figured with a 6.0 liter that the truck would do this easily as I have experienced with past trucks being light and sufficient power that you can spin tires easily.  I have turned off traction control and it will certainly spin tires on wet pavement easily but not so on dry pavement.  So my thoughts that make a 2500 HD behave differently are :

1.  Truck is much heavier than typical 1/2 ton truck requiring more horsepower to spin tires.

2.  Suspension is much stiffer making spinning tires much more difficult.

3.  I believe there is a locker in rear axle which makes it more difficult to break loose tires.

4.  Combination of transmission gears and 4.10 axle ratio make it so low geared of the line that it is almost like being in low range in 4wd.  on the other hand it seems that this combination would only help break tires loose.

5.  Since this truck is an HD designed for hauling and towing the tire compound is much less susceptable to tire slippage.

Any explanation explaining my observations  and my guesses would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Trak

Could be the type of tires on it, though how much gas you give it is subjective. I can get my 15 Silverado 1500 with the 6.2 to spin the tires but there is significant throttle application involved. Could be the newer trucks have more torque management.

These trucks spin the tires when unloaded on wet pavement. But you got 7500 lbs, so don't expect to smoke em...

Mine is tuned by me with HP, has 4.56 gears, Detroit locker and a modest 33.5" tall toyo at2 Extremes.  It doesn't spin basically ever... barks them into second mostly because it shifts too hard lol.

So good luck with a stock 4.10 geared truck lol.

No its the weight of the truck and the lack of power the 6 liter has at the bottom.  If you tuned your truck you may get some tire spin because the Gov lock will allow one tire to spin before trying to lock.  One tire spins heck of a lot easier than two.  Stock you have torque management fighting you but even once those parameters are removed it's still not some tire smoking muscle car because its just a 6 liter pushing a 7000 lb truck through big heavy power sapping components.

If you were trying to slide/fishtail around a corner, it could be the stablitrac slowing it -- if only the traction control was turned off.

Once off, traction control stays off until ignition is cycled or you turn it back on.

Stabilitrac turns itself back on at about 30 mph.

for reference, a 360 hp, 6500 lb truck has the same hp to weight ratio as a 180 hp, 3250 lb car.  So basically, slower than a base model Honda Accord.

Plenty of power.  it is just held back by the torque management.  GM doesn't want you spinning tires.  Doesn't do any good to spin a tire.  If a tire is spinning, it is not gripping.

I am surprised that my 1966 Chevy C10 even got down the road based on your logic.

But even the L96 6.0 reaches 90% of available torque at around 2000 - 2100 RPM.  Bet the Honda Accord cannot make that claim.

There’s plenty of Horsepower, it’s the nannies. If it wasn’t for the nannies most people would be in a ditch with the high powered monsters.
