1 Order of magnitude (Nitration)

The Boss claims that each integer is one order of magnitude greater than the last. i.e. 11 is one order greater than 10 and 12 is one order greater than 11. Thus 12 is two orders more than 10. Each 10 times greater than the preceding value.

Problem. An order of magnitude isn't defined like that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_magnitude

So if I start with a base background of 8 abs/0.1mm one order of magnitude is any number between 0.8 and 80 abs. The range of two orders of magnitude for a value of 8 is from 0.8 to 800. This means that 8 is within a factor of 10 from both 0.8 (10^0) and 800 (10^2). Ergo 20 isn't an order greater, its a value within one order as is 80. 2 orders would fall between 81 and 800 before a distinction could even be made between 1 and 2 orders.

Background matters. Oil type matters and they differ.

Huh? 🤔

So FTIR deals with waveform spectra right?

In your comment above what UNIT measure are you addressing?

There are 4 I use to address FTIR readings.

%  allowable

T  transmittance

A  absorption

W  weight

I’ll look up tables we developed at DysonAnalysis that no one else seems to use but is based on US DOD standards.

Is there an explanation that can convince Joe Average that 2 + 2 = 71?

Yep

Look at note 1.5 at SAVANT's web site. @customboss has recommended this lab as the 'go to' for top drawer work. Impossible to read in this cut and paste but that note reads of FTIR method D7624:

1.5 This test method is for petroleum and hydrocarbon-based lubricants and is not applicable for ester-based oils, including polyol esters or phosphate esters.

Wrong on the math, wrong on the application...just wrong

Hey @grumpy bear seriously hurry up. I’m gonna give you some gold on here if you’ll just answer the damn question I asked you I’m gonna give you 50+ years of FTIR work that nobody’s writing down and telling you.

you and your little minions will enjoy it

@Grumpy Bear I think maybe you don’t know enough to answer my question? You keep posting other folks thoughts on the IR via Fourier but I’m not sure you can understand the science unless you can objectively answer.

I don’t want waste pearls on swine.

Still waiting………..Some one else speak up so we can clear the contaminated air Grumpy promotes.

I think he replied yesterday but it was swept up in the cleanup that txab did. The tone was pouty for sure, and it didn't refute your assertions.

Yeah I need a direct answer to speak to his “concerns”

Truth has a Cost

To learn the truth cost, you have to give up one of two or perhaps both things. Ignorance or a previous belief that isn't true.

But that isn't the only costs involved. Study cost time. Materials cost money. All of those cost you in being absent in others lives. Sacrificing their wants and sometimes yours to pursue the truth. It can consume your very being. Cost of education is not the providence of those with formal secular education. NONE of those cost can be recuperated.

When you look down on a autodidact your looking down on those above you and making a fool of yourself. Nearly every person on earth is capable of very high levels of self education. Thinking you are special or superior because of a formal education only shows how little you learned.

Thomas Edison Inventor Developed the electric light bulb and phonograph
Albert Einstein Physicist Formulated the theory of relativity
Leonardo da Vinci Polymath Renowned for art and scientific inventions
Abraham Lincoln Politician Led the U.S. during the Civil War, abolished slavery
Bill Gates Entrepreneur Co-founded Microsoft, revolutionized personal computing
Jimi Hendrix Musician Influential guitarist known for his innovative style

Granted, few will choose to educate themselves because they do not wish to pay the price. It can be humiliating to say I'm ignorant of the facts or what I know is a lie. Yea, it cost.

Guess nitration and FTIR is too much to learn. OK.

Wrong again Bozo.

Calling another person a "Bozo" was popular when we were kids.  It was typically used in a playful situation or maybe a self criticism for a foolish mistake.  I am sure my wife has called me a Bozo in the past but never intended as a hurtful comment.  The way it is used in this post, is upsetting to me, and I'm sure to others.  I think we all agree that we're entitled to our own opinions/beliefs and we are united in our efforts to protect these rights.  This thread and this forum are opportunities for us to demonstrate respect and tolerance for others.

Sometimes it’s better to agree to disagree and move on. Working in a family business with like minded people sometimes that method came in handy. Even like minded individuals can disagree. This insanity over oil is more amusing than helpful. After all simply following the owners manual is sufficient in most cases.

Nope. Only post he had, customboss saw it and replied. Was not on the topic custom wanted an answer to
