Sorry but no. It is good. it is better then most others. it is better then most all the stock engine vehicles out there. But best....NO.

Issue first is what does best mean? what is the "control"? and what is brands tested?

I put it at top 5.

The 4x4 shop is waiting for me to come in so they can swap it, it’s a pain in the ass to drive all that way just for swapping out the Diff Cover. You have a 6.2 as well?

Ok watched as much as I could. his voice is so depressing. Like that guy from the Red dry itchy eyes Ben Stein for Clear eyes.

Based on the compared oils ams oil is better..... ugh ok

Is it get the title of best no.

But as I said there is different oil for different engines.

My oil is the best but it is for the genV engine with a little shot of extra for the turbo. but it is a exact match to the the materials in the block and the use or abuse of the engine and my change schedule 3000-3500 miles. It is not commercial available.

I have told the story before but recap. High end XXX natural aspirated engine goes into HUGE name big 3 contracted shop for a clean and refresh. few months later they call and are happy to tell the dyno numbers. and collect the $1200 payday. Power was down more then 150hp. 4 changes all done in minutes(one oil) and power was back. they where lost and even argued over the change. they refused and said if they did it and there isn't a size able change we had to pay for dyno and labor. They ate crow...

Now there is even better oil then those.

Again ams oil is good but what they are great at is claims and advertisements.

But why would you say that, if the proof is in the pudding and test results are all over the Internet and not just from Amsoil but from independent labs, why would you still think it’s all marketing scams?
You know that damn tick tick tick sounds coming from the K2 motors? well, mine completely went away on the second oil change I realized it after my wife said my truck was quieter walking up to it on remote start.

This is the primary reason I’m a life customer of Amsoil. Never putting down other oils but talk about marketing scams, Full Synthetic is a misleading scam by all those big oil companies. Never met anyone that thought any different based on the way Full Synthetic is marketed.

Anyway, I only posted this to be educational and not attack anyone else’s choice of oil, buy what you want but I’ve always been about best available protection between oil changes, he’ll, I even thought Full Synthetic meant 100% synthetic, it’s not.

I agree no attack each his own. Just a educational post. we are good

I can make that tick go away for super cheap also. as I said it is good just not best.

If it is so good why do the guys with say a $50,000 + billet block engine not run it? I understand a daily street truck vs a 3000hp plus motor track car is two different arguments. Maybe we are back to the term "best".

and this isn't even going into the weight options of the oils.....

You may want to ask Amsoil this question as I’ve been told by multiple custom performance shops to use Amsoil. One of the primary reasons, aside of what I’ve said is that it cost the same as Full Synthetic Mobil1. I’m not an expert as to oils and only read results and this is what I’ve posted, the proof, test results. If you’re stuck on your oil, that’s great, continue and enjoy the benefits of what you know, I’ll enjoy the benefits based on test results and take to heart what the shops that build and work on very high performance vehicles recommend especially when they pay out of pocket because they believe in its ability to out perform.

Good night everyone, busy day coming up, have the podium in pre council meeting tomorrow [emoji6]

Also if that stuff is the best ever, why doesn't Nascar or top fuel drag cars run it?

The main reason is most if not all the NASCAR and NHRA guys have their oil specifically formulated for their rides. Off the shelf oil will not work in such a demanding environment.  So I would suspect whoever is willing to blend up their oils at the lowest cost wins or gets full advertisement from that team.  Could it be AMSOIL, I wouldn't doubt it but no one will ever know.  Trade secrets for sure.

Back when AMSOIL was getting started they worked with Bobby Unser and the issues he was having with rear differentials going up Pikes Peak.  He contacted A.J. Amatuzio the founder of AMSOIL and got some differential oil from him.  Ran it in his Pikes Peak vehicle and never had another rear differential issue.  Yes this was a long time ago, but just goes to show the quality of product back then and it only has improved moving forward.

Ah. Well given my 3k oil change intervals thats a no go. I'll prob switch to that shell gas truck oil and see how that goes. Its the same price as valvoline full synthetic high mileage with maxlife tech. Which has been really good.

    • In the 6.6 gas thread, I added information in my fluid change thread about these gauges and temperatures. With very limited data, it so far looks like ~30 degrees difference between front and rear.
    • I know; crap pictures.   Anyway, as a finale of sorts to this thread, I had replaced both differential covers and since they had the capability of adding temperature probes, I did that. These are MaxTow analog/digital gauges with stepper motors. They'll flutter around like crazy for a moment and start at a nominal 100 degrees Fahrenheit.   I drove a 30-mile loop to the grocery store, averaging 70 MPH (as much as 80 to see if there was a quick spike in temperature. The air temperature is 102 (ambient ?). but the first pic is 7 miles into the trip. The second is getting back into the truck after leaving the store; differential temperatures dropped about three to four degrees in 15 minutes. The third pic in on the road to my house, about a mile away.   In that run, I saw a high of 150F on the rear differential, and 121F on the front. I'm sure a longer drive or towing will see higher than that, and when that happens, I can update the observations.
    • You don't want to become predictable now, do you? 😏
    • Fully warm, coolant temp >194, closed loop.   Run time can be anywhere from just reached operating temperature to having driven 30+ miles.   The O2 chart (which is a feature I just discovered after reading) for the bad idle seems to be "most" of the time. For the little time I've been watching it (scanning and driving! watchout!) I can't seem to isolate any cause or condition yet.   It definitely idles rougher sometimes than others and so far what I've seen is the rougher idles are always rich. But not enough to set a CEL.   In other news I replaced the starter solenoid. Everything on this truck is such a PITA. Starter "snout" is mangled up with the torque converter inspection cover which is tangled up with hard cooling lines and the driveshaft. But I got 'er done without too much swearing...I just go into everything now knowing it's going to be a frustrating mess.   The starter solenoid replacement kicks off the next round of work: AC, injector rebuild, cat, exhaust. I'm just going to do it all. But first:   I don't know what my fuel pressures are. I can't definitively say the issue is the injector without first verifying fuel pressures and any leakdown. I "rented" a test kit ($199.99 at O'Really's ...intentional misspelling). They don't "rent" tools anymore, they charge you for the tool and then you return it when you're done. No joke. It is listed as a rental on the receipt but the guy told me there's no difference between renting and buying  now, you just return it when you're done and they refund the credit card. Mmmkay, whatever.   I will rule out fuel pressure issues (too much), and any leaking (that's how I'll know the problem is inside the intake). I think someone said the return line could be plugged or not flowing and that could cause high fuel pressure (and too much fuel being pushed through injectors). I'll cross that bridge if I get high readings.   As of now I'm ready to tear off the intake cover, extract the injector, and have it sent off to be rebuilt just so I can rule that out.
