I e-mailed Schaeffer & asked questions. Below is the response that I received (part 1 of 2 posts): "Thank you for your interest in our product line. The million mile gasoline engine used our Schaeffer Supreme 7000 from the time it was brand new on 8,000 mile intervals. We market the Supreme 7000 for 7,000 mile intervals and the Supreme 9000 for 9,000 mile intervals in the passenger car/gasoline market. We have much more capability with extended drain intervals on our heavy duty products."

Don’t forget about Lubrication Engineers oil. (LE) I remember growing up my dad would use this in his fleet of tractors some pulling loads of 120k pounds with overweight permits of course. They would go 50k mile drain intervals and the test results were perfect.

That’s great, I’ve heard of that oil but never went beyond hearing about it. Amsoil has impressed me so much with its ability to a actually change engine noise and its ability to protect the engine from wear and tear during oil change intervals. I live learning of out of the box companies. Amsoil is my oil but thank you for posting.

Schaeffer's looked allot cleaner than the AMSOIL BUT it was changed allot more often. 8K instead of 25K. Lubrication Engineers is a brand I used like holly water when I was a maintenance super in manufacturing. It's good stuff too. Red Line is my baby and that is well known but what I find is that almost any oil will do the job and the key isn't as much about the oil as it is about the OCI's and operating conditions. Uncle Bob's flathead went 1 Million on Cenpeco later in life and Phillips TropArtic 10W30 early on. Dad's 750,000 Ford 390 was a TropArtic motor. All of those motors went rare distances. I don't know what Schaeffer cost but simple math says if it isn't more than 1/3 the cost it was a more expensive program. Then again both saved the cost of a new anything by a factor of about 5 so...even expensive oil isn't expensive to use even if you over change it. 

 

These two videos also show that there is good and then there is good enough. Lot's of lessons to be learned in life.

Don't forget the differential fluids.  If you search more on Mr. Bobby Unser you will find some interesting video's of him claiming to run AMSOIL in his indy car, bringing it in jugs of of what ever his sponsor at the time was.  Not the sponsors oil.  Of course this was a long time ago but still.

Going on 40 yrs and I have never changed my oil (except when brand new 1st change) before 15,000 miles or 1 yr, gone to 25,000 when I was working construction surveying and traveling over 25,000 miles a year to project locations. Later years when I was crew chief I had company suburban so I did not need to drive my vehicles.   

Any oil can go a million miles if you change it often like like they did in that test.  How many people you know drive 1 million miles?  I  have known one and he was an owner/operator with an over-the-road truck, and he changed when uoa told him.  A long time friend is a LTL carrier driving a 2007 Sprinter van with MB diesel and has about 1/2 million miles crisscrossing the USA from Mich to the left coast and all points in between .  Btw, he uses AMSOIL Euro 5W-40, changes oil about every 50,000 as determined by oil analysis.  He has a bypass filter and could go longer per uoa but it works to be about every 6 months which fit his schedule.   Everything but the engine has given him fits, that and trans keep purring along on AMSOIL.

This is like Whack O' Mole. 

 

I knew a guy in El Paso (told this one before I think) who bought a brand spanking new Monte Carlo. His first oil change he was shamed into a little over 100,000 miles when I noticed it still had the OEM short break-in filter on it. This thing used oil at an unholy rate. Kept a case in the trunk and added a couple of quarts with every fill up. 12-14 mpg, 20 gallon tank you do the math. Knocked, rattled and smoked. Died within minutes of it's first oil change. Know what he said? Oh and he was serious. 

 

GM piece of crap! 

 

Who keeps a car to a million miles? So we complain if they wont and ridicule when they do. What in the world!!

People change 'things' they own based on who's looking or what they think other people will think, not on its value or worth or their needs. BUT there are some of us that don't find a refrigerator 'useless" because it was made in the 1950's and  pink.

A decade old truck not to be caught dead in because it is so last product cycle. 

Not everyone has money and not everyone is juvenile.

 

Ever notice that the guy driving a very nice 37 Chevy 1/2 ton never has a 15 minute fuel stop? 

 

Hey do you think Jay Leno's great grandchildren will have a mint restored 2020 Silverado in their collection in 2120?

I have a few vehicles. Mainly because early in life I went one weekend without one. My main vehicle I change often because I want to. It’s a Camry so obviously I don’t care what people think. My house I do very little remodeling unless something breaks. My son bought a projection TV. I want one. I can’t do it until my big screen breaks. I like to point out alternatives. Not because I think they should do something. Because there is something different to do.

Traded it in 1981with about 40,000 miles on the clock and running like new, dealer had no idea is was a 140,000+- miles because it drove and looked new.   Bought a new Olds Cutlass, loaded GM exec car (low miles gutless wonder) and that car was not as good, had lots of problems due to the emissions garbage (carb) that was on the car and it also had bad dark blue paint the dealer could never seem to fix, kept coming off.

I almost bought a 72 Monte Carlo 454SS for my wife. My wife said it was too big, damn. Got a 74 nova custom. 350-4-dual exhaust in its 160HP glory. We had it awhile. Never saw bad weather, garage kept. Before 50K miles the exhaust fell down, the gas tank replaced, the radiator replaced. I didn’t think anything of it. That’s how normal that stuff was. I added a high rise, Holley, headers, B&M shift kit. F-70 14s on slotted mags, Baby Moons on front. I probably got that baby to 200HP. And people complain about HP these days.

Maybe we just hate because you talk too much about it?

 

I've watched many video's with Tom Brown (Certified Lubrication Specialist) on the Powerstrokehelp youtube channel. I have no doubts that Amsoils is good oil but with that said many other oils do what is needed and you don't hear those people complaining about anything.

 

I mean GM, Ford or whoever do spend millions of dollars and years of testing with "normal" synthetic oils and they say it meets or exceeds what is required.

 

Also if that stuff is the best ever, why doesn't Nascar or top fuel drag cars run it?
