Spark Plugs Change

Recommended Posts

I've never not seen a factory LS/LT based truck without the metal shields installed from the get go.

The shields slide off and right back onto the new plugs, simple as that. I do all my plugs from up top, just reach in with my arms or lay on top.

You have to take apart part of the wheel well to get to them. That is why I'm asking.

No. No you don’t. I’ve done spark plugs on hundreds of Chevies from the ‘60s forward and never once pulled a fender well. Why spend more time to not save any time?

I did not find it very difficult when I replaced plugs and wires last month on my 2012 5.3. Yes that #8 was somewhat of a pain because of the a/c canister/lines but managed it all from the top.

Message to the poster...unless you have the patience you can easily brake off plug ceramic tips on old and new if your socket angle is off while torqueing.

My recommendation is to pay out the install unless your set on taking a chance DYI option.

I shopped RockAuto  ACDELCO 41162 Plugs and ACDELCO 9748UU wires.

Hemis have 16 plugs and 8 cylinders.

Hemis are costly mechanical nightmares.

Just ask anyone who has had to pay for scheduled maintenance on one :smash:

I am looking around and see plugs listed for like $19 for 8 and wires for around $48 or so. Is this what you guys are seeing.

You must be looking up the wrong spark plugs if your total was only $19 for 8 plugs.

Depending on engine the plugs run around $7-8 each.

The 2014+ plugs for the LT engines are AC delco 41-114. I bought them from Napa last time for right around $50ish for the 8 plugs.

I am having a shop do the install.  I just do not have the time with work or anywhere to work on taking things off to check these.  Due to my job I am on the clock 24/7 (salary) so, I just wanted to know which to buy.  I have the spark plugs, just need assistance with which wires since they listed with and without the metal heat shields.  Please keep in mind, this may be easy for many of you, but it's not for everyone.

For what it is worth, I wouldn't worry about the plug wires. They last a long time.  Only reason to change is if you are having issues and a wire or so is the cause, or you do major mods like adding a turbo/SC.

I'm sure. I was just perusing ebay using 2014 silverado OEM as my search term. The wires and plugs pricing were something I came across obviously wrong. I thought that price was to easy.

I replace wires every time I do plugs; I don't do coils unless necessary.  Fresh plugs and wires preserve the coils and are much cheaper.

I sourced the AC Delco plugs and wires on RockAuto; plugs are $6.84 each, and the wire set is $42.79.

I'm on the fence over wires. I replaced mine at 100K but the ones I took off metered like new. I also noted that there was a life time warranty on them! I've never seen that before on a factory wire. Get me off the fence Dukedkt442!!

When I found out that NKG was the manufacture of AC-Delco plugs...…   I will be changing at 50 K from here on out. (easy number to remember but 100K was too long).

Definitely agree on the mileage; I do 60k on this, the bmw and the VW.

Will the wires lost longer? Sure. But for less than $50 I’m not gonna bother guessing; I’ve taken the truck from Ny to OBX twice in the last two months, and will to the Keys this coming December, most driving at night. Heating/cooling cycles up in the NE mean insulation degrades, and the next thing you know I’m almost broken down on the side of the road because my new alternator fried the coil and ICM in my Olds.

If I have to take the wires off, it’s getting new ones. I’ve never broken down or been stranded and don’t intend to, and I daily drive 40 year old junk over 400 miles on a round trip.

EDIT: I wasn't aware NGK made the AC Delco plugs, I assumed AC Delco made them because they make a lot of things.  I run NGKs in the BMW, so I don't mind that.
