Do I have to use ACDELCO DEF fluid

Hi all, 

 

Just got a new 2019 Colorado diesel. The manual says I have to use ACDELCO DEF fluid. Much cheaper using the Walmart brand. Is this bs or do I have to use ACDELCO DEF? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

No.  DEF is DEF.  You don't want old stuff, as it does chemically change over time.

No, your best bet is to find a truck stop that has it at the pump.  It is less expensive and always fresh since they have a high turn around.  Plus it being stored underground means it isn't subject to high temperatures which can effect the shelf life of DEF.

Depends on how it was stored, but generally it stores well for at least a year.

Absolutely.  And you have to only wear Chevrolet or GM clothing while you drive it, too.

thanks i am new to this as the last diesel i had was a 1999 Detroit DEF was not even invented yet

Ok, I lied. My usual gas station doesn't have def at the pump, so I bought O' Riley's house brand instead.

I’ve used prestige and Walmart brand. All work fine if reasonably fresh (
The local station with DEF on the pump requires the big diesel nozzle. I could not use it.
