hvychev77 Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 My 2017 Silverado is riddled with the thumps and pops in the leaf springs like everyone else's is, or will be. I've got some slips of polyurethane in between the springs right now that's keeping things quiet, for the most part. I can live with it.. though i'm still pissed after the cost of a new truck. So, has anyone found a replacement spring that quietly (no squeaks/pops) works as it should for these trucks? I'll look into replacing after warranty if it's a worthy venture... What brand and part number, cost? Thanks in advance, HVYCHEV77
m3n00b Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 My stock springs never made any noise for the 25k miles I had them..

Leaf springs aren't very complicated and any problems should be easily remedied. If your dealer can't solve the issue, take your truck to a "spring and axle" shop. They specialize in leaf springs and can certainly fix your problem.
RMR Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 Mine have been fine. The rattle I get is from one of the load stabalizers I installed. They all want a differnt amount of washers and I have to leave one loose.
wforrest08 Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 Seems like most guys on here anyway that have swapped springs are using sets from here. https://deaverspring.com/
Jacoby Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 Just stick with the rubber between the leafs fix. Everyone that has done it including myself said it has made a world of difference. That’s literally what the problem is. The oem insulators between the leafs are too thin. Why waste money on new leaf springs when the ones you have can be fixed for $10.
hvychev77 Posted October 3, 2019 Author Posted October 3, 2019 Be cool to see some pics of the rubber between the springs. I did install intertube pieces at one time, but they seem to slip out of alignment... I'm guessing this is because they're too thin?
Cupton Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 Excuse the grease in the photos. I didn’t cleaned it out before installing the rubber. They are much cleaner now that the rubber has been in there for a few weeks. I clipped the excess off the zip ties as well. Truck has been quiet as a mouse.
hvychev77 Posted October 3, 2019 Author Posted October 3, 2019 Sahweet... Thanks for the pics. I have a recall for the brakes on the truck so, i'll have them look at the springs while fixing the brakes. If the springs are a no go, then i'll try this method with the zip ties. Cheers, hvychev77
CDNSS Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 My April build 2017 All Terrain CC has never squeaked have 30k plus miles on it yet I know others that have this problem Expected to have problem so When truck came in I did tighten up the U bolts when I first got truck they were pretty loose not even close to factory torque value FWIW
WCMS Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Having the same issue. Is it possible to just replace the bushings? I haven't tried putting rubber between them yet but I have sprayed them down with silicone spray and it seemed too help. I know it will come back though. Other than the noise I can feel it in my feet when making turns on incline and going over bumps. I had my upper and lower ball joints replaced that were shot thinking that was it. Also checked motor mounts and cv's along with most everything else in the font end. I know my leaf springs are bad though hoping that's the only problem I got.
Darksky Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 I went to a local spring shop and had them make one full length leaf with the correct rate and arc. They charged me less than a hundred bucks for the leaves, keepers and pins. I added it in the stack just under the eye leaf. My suspension rides perfectly and doesn’t hunker down like a lot of 1500s when under a decent load. I really do like the idea of a rear suspension without lift blocks. Maybe on the next truck.
WCMS Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Amazing how many people are having this problem. This truck has more clunks, rattles, and ticking noises than my 2001 did. Local tire shop said they see more chevys in this model than any other vehicle. Mainly replacing ball joints.
FIREBLADE74 Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Mine was warrantied. Seems like the service guy said it was a new design. No noise since!
Nitrousbird Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 Mine is fine (with a whopping 5k miles on it), but if I were replacing my springs, I'd likely go with the springs from the NHT trucks (Max Tow).
