so i stumbled across this video on some dude saying how great this MAF is, but why is is different from OEM? 

are we exceeding our MAF sensor limitations in the stock setup?   

 

Any ideas how the JEt MAF out performs the oem  function in the ECU... please enlighten me..

I bought a Granatelli Motorsports MAF for my 99 SCSB.

 

Basically what they did is remove the dust screen/filter. If you look inside of your MAF, you will see a set of "sensors" and a screen that looks like a "screen door". What they did is remove the screen so the air flow is "increased" into the throttle body. At that time there was also a product from Tornado Industries, that would create a swirling effect of the air going into the TB.

Kind of a cheap/poor mans version of a Supercharger, mostly just sounded cool under WOT, with the whistling effect it caused.

that's what i was thinking , intermittant sometimes it works sometimes not so much.. lol probably another salesman selling junk to the masses

Now you have me thinking, what else do I have in my tool box. There was another company in that era that had a TB space, looked cool, just made the hard acceleration whistle louder, maybe I should start listing some of this stuff on here to sale. 

One difference back then was, it was still a throttle cable, not DBW like now, so you did have a little more input in what was happening during acceleration.

The first old school maf had screens and everyone would remove them. It was bad then people bought plastic no center bar maf ends. Worse idea. All snake oil and that is if it even ran right.
The new version are different and are not a limit at all.

Guys, I read the page description and seems like not even Custom HP Tunes can compete with this single $250 dollar sensor. The scary part is all the "people" in the comments who say it works

I can't even deal with this item description. Air flow restrictions. Really it isn't enough to matter. Gm made the intake tube larger on supercharger cars for a reason. The computer is still going to be the same so no matter if it allows more air how do you get more fuel to correct the afr. Answer is it does nothing. It is a cheap part that is easy to install, and a claim of performance and jet makes money. Much like their throttle bodies that are big money compaired to say a stock 6.2 oh and not bigger or better as claimed. I know this because we had one on a truck that got much dyno time. That came off and stock 6.2 went on the l83.
I promise this does nothing to improve performance. Same as aintake tube on stock vehicle. The air is calculated and adjusted. So you just get less throttle blade open.
If you question this look at the torque based tunes these vehicles have and the pe tables that reduce the power anyways.
If this part has hardware that lies or is different to stock how would the pcm adjust for it? Target afr is set and o2 read that. It can only use pe(power enrichment) or torque management to reduce power. Other settings slip trans as well.

Guys be skeptical... Look for DATA** Speak with Tuners and Folks that have been around these items for decent length of time. Don't ever just accept anecdotal comments or **feelings**. They're not factual and don't provide any evidence to support you spending your hard earned money!

 

 

As far as my experience with JET;

I've purchased the TB and then the MAF sensor.  I did not notice a single difference using one, the other or both at the same time (purchased independently of one another).

 

When Speaking with tuners, (DiabLEW, and local tuners) they all recommended going back to OEM as JET causes issues while tuning. Especially the MAF sensor. 

 

Just my $.02 save your money. If you're out for Performance just buy a Supercharger kit, Whipple, PROcharger or Eddlebrock.  They're all relatively the same price and go on sale during Black Friday (Big time). It will provide a totally different driving experience and jack your HP up significantly without having to upgrade any additional internals/externals. 

 

If you're out for a cool sounding vehicle, just grab yourself an exhaust.

Well I hate to be that guy to have have actually tried this but I have put this exact sensor in two different GM cars a 2017 Silverado and a 2017 Terrain out of curiousity.Now I dont claim to know what it does, How exactly it does it, nor if there is a measurable difference in power on a dyno but for a fact there is a difference in the driving with it on.This is parking both cars then swapping between the stock and Jet sensor back forth many many times and there is always a difference with it on.The best way I could describe is it feels like it tricks the car into having a little more timing and snap at the bottom end but thats it.I would agree either way it is a waste of money because when the cars go WOT the computer will step in to pull back the knock and then there is likely no power difference at all.Then again this type of mod is really no different than throttle controllers and most bolt ons put onto stock trucks.Most of it will make no difference at all in actual power and probably run worse without a tune but people spend the money anyway because it changes the driving experience.Just my .02

the best tune for the money i found, is installing 170 thermostat, disconnecting the TCC function in the trans, pull out the restrictor in the CAI, and activate the power enrichment in the ecu.  this alone will trip the Torque management so you know it makes good power for cheap. total cost about $250  and almost adds 20 hp , requires premium fuel to keep the engine in the high octane advance table, next power upgrade is the E85 sensor, might add 10 hp

    • Holy s**t - not much of a parts thrower you say? You BLASTED that thing with the parts cannon!  You'd have been probably $1,000 ahead if you had just brought it to a competent shop rather than shotgunning a bunch of parts it clearly didn't need.   Just FYI - oil additives are really, REALLY good at ONE thing ... and that's emptying your wallet. They're ALL useless gimmicks.   If that has the L94 or L99, then #7 is an AFM cylinder. I'd suspect a failed lifter in that case.   If you leaned on wiring, sensors, and/or connectors while changing the oil, you'll have to check all that to be sure pins didn't get pulled out, connectors broken, etc.. Old wire loom that was barely adequate when new is certainly brittle by year 19 - make sure wires aren't chaffed and shorting out somewhere where you might have leaned. or supported yourself on it.   If your a mechanic, why didn't you just find out what you were missing and troubleshoot from there??  TIMED spark, fuel PSI / injector pulse, air, compression.  Can't make ANY money going the parts cannon route.
    • LOL! Are you joking?? That wax SUCKS! 100% gimmick made to "look" good.    After just TWO winters I had severe surface rusting in patches over 90% of the frame. Only reason it looks great in the pics is because I SATURATED the frame every single fall with used motor oil for 14 of the 16 years I owned it. Otherwise it would've been sent to the crusher 8 years earlier with the speed it was rusting prior!    I sold that POS 3 years ago. Was a gigantic headache the second it rolled off the showroom floor. Brakes pulsated on the TEST DRIVE. Door trim fell off the 1st week! Interior squeaked and rattled, and the drivetrain clunked after 2k miles. 4x4 switch failed shortly after. Front end - ball joints, struts, hub bearings - all failed between 38k-50k. Engine started burning oil at 50k. Rear and and transmission failed before 100k. Nothing but problems, and frustration with the piss-poor engineering designed to make you give up. Well, it worked! Nothing on that truck was easy to remove ... except the wheels. They haven't figured out how to screw that up yet. Give 'em time ...   I won't make that mistake again.     • Different monitors do their test only under conditions specific to that monitor.  you MIGHT find the drive cycle conditions for the monitor that isn't ready on this site: https://lemon-manuals.la/   If it's not there, then it should be on alldata.com for your truck, but it requires a paid subscription.   And you need to know which specific monitor isn't ready.
    • from another thread   Update...although the truck sometimes seems to idle weird and the transmission shift a little weird, I've driven about 7,000  miles and no issues.   However, the way GM has handled my rental reimbursement, the situation when my truck quit, and the recall in general has led me to this point...I have driven a GM vehicle for the past 46 years and unless I buy a C3 Corvette, this is the last GM vehicle I will ever own.
