Thoughts on the Tesla Pickup?

If the driving range and cost are realistic I could be interested. Five hundred miles would be my goal.

I don't care how many ways they approach battery PRIVATE transportation. Not in my lifetime even if it means I quit driving.

I hate having things forced down my throat.

This truck sets a new bar for ugly on a stick.

I don’t look at in the tree huger sense. I look at it cost, fun, efficiency sense. I can remember days in the past. If it wasn’t a diesel or a big block there’s no way it could be fun. I’m driving a Camry now for gosh sakes.

It’ll NEVER be forced down anyone’s throat especially if the oil companies have anything to say about that, another 100years later, may just be much more efficient to have one and more fun lol.

I’m looking at keeping my truck for road trips and looking into getting one later after MUCH more updated models come out. No point in getting something that only your house can juice up or having to settle for certain juice up locations. IMHO, Better to look at the over all cost of depreciation first, no point in buying something that’s mass produced and depreciation worse than a Prius lol

But do you like 'em?  :)   I'm interested in how you see EV's as being forced upon you.  If anything, I believe the transition is too soft.   The flexibility, power and efficiency that are offered by electric motors make them well suited for private transportation, imo.   (I think auxiliary on board generators would assist the transition process).  I also believe the reveal of the Tesla truck has opened the door for a whole new range of exciting designs. I like the Tesla and understand why others don't.  The other manufacturers will strive to appeal to people in both camps!  I look forward to seeing and being part of these exciting changes.

Fair curiosity. Same way a new phone is forced upon you. They simply stop supporting the old generation of technology. Take GM for instance and the plan of the CEO to be totally electric by 20XX. That's about as forced as it can get if GM is your cuppa tea.

Then the propensity of tech to release an item that is buggy, then patch and update you out of drive space then sell you one with more space and more bugs and down the rabbit hole we go. Microsoft has made a fortune with this strategy. Cable and Satellite ditto. You ever have a $200 a month analog antenna bill? Phones? I have a drawer full of phones that work perfectly and yet are useless. Each more expensive than the last and more complicated and higher and higher bills. I also maintain a LAN line on a phone that is 50 years old. It's all about to get unplugged. In this case of cars there are few IF ANY individuals that would be able to keep old tech electric going like a suborn old fool as myself can do with a 1928 Model A. Bring whatever they wish, and I can keep that going forever and a day. Stop support on the systems MCU of an all electric and you have a paper weight. Battery replacement in 20 years? LOL. Didn't last two years with my cordless Porter Cable and there was no support. Drawer full of junk. I expect this from an Orange but not my car/truck/bike/tv/phone.

Given the track record of commerce how will this be different? They can't keep a pick up rust free past the warranty. :wtf:

Do I like them. 100% torque at zero rpm? What's not to love about that. Then again I don't have resources for a $60K toy that wont make it to my parents home on a single charge. No sir....I have no interest no matter how much 'fun' it may be.

I can understand people’s reluctance to deal with an electric vehicle. That be eased with warranty and time. As far as being forced to deal with manufacturers forcing us to deal with new technology it’s already happening. Cylinder deactivation, external vacuum pumps, start stop technology, adaptive cruise, etc. That’s not happening for me. I will rebuild and rotate my rides before I summit to that.

Kinda funny since we live in a society where we have all the tools to change that.

Democracy and capitalism.

Politic...election.

Economy...supply and DEMAND.

Again, it's upon us.

Now is a your opportunity to do a better job!   However, it takes a lot of skill to design a production level vehicle.  You would probably have an easy task of tweaking aspects of this design to meet your personal tastes but a ground up design exceeds the skill level of most people.   The Tesla company made a bold and gutsy move which I respect.

To me it's not about electric or not. the thing is DISGUSTING LOOKING. You couldn't pay me to ride in it let alone own one. But they will sell some. The Hummers are ugly but sold. Between the too much testosterone group and the "look at me" group they will sell.

Recorded history of mans self governance is over 6,000 years old and every from and type of commerce and governance tired has failed to do what Anna Lappe suggest it will do. Having a tool to do the task is the short end of the stick when it comes to fixing anything under the sun. No...me thinks having the tools has little to do with pretty much everything. I have a scalpel but I bet you don't want me to do any surgery on you.

I went to a shop today to have a battery in my tablet replaced and the cost of that battery was the cost of the tablet when I bought it new. The young man suggested I spend more money to just buy a new one as that would be more 'cost efficient'.

I asked why each part of the device cost what the device cost and yes with a straight face he echoed 'supply and demand'. I asked him then if he spent $60,000 on a new truck and a rock took out the windshield if he believed a replacement windshield should cost $60,000 because supply was deliberately shorted. I've lived too long to be that stupid.

Truthfully, I'd ride a horse as a preference to gas motored transportation but various lobbies have assured that such is no longer possible.

I have no interest in the technology for personal transport. Period. I can see if for public intercity transport however.

I'm not taking the ugliest girl in the room to the dance just because it's my only choice.

It might be the current supply but I have no demand laid on me to accept it.
