Should have put a yellow sticky note on the fill cap with what the right oil is.  Then rig it up to give the mechanic a mild shock when they pick up the wrong oil to pour in...

So I actually have a follow up on my original post and the wrong oil and it just keeps getting better- Frankly despite giving dealers an opportunity/second chance to show they are competent, they fail over and over.

So its been 2 months and we’ve put 2k miles more on the truck since the 1st oil change.  Yesterday i decided to do a thorough check on everything and I checked the oil level. Well wouldnt you know it, no oil on dipstick. I looked at the pan, no drips, leaks- all clean. Huh.. Well i rechecked the invoice from the final “corrrect oil change” and it stated  7qts dexos d 0W20. Well thats correct- so where is the oil going. I dropped off the truck Saturday at the same dealer to figure this out(i wanted it all documented in the system)- and they confirmed- no leaks, no nothing.. So they said, it must have been incorrectly filled originally. Frankly I have no idea if its 1 qt down or more and they couldn’t tell me as they have no dexos d in stock to fill it. So they are keeping the truck till monday. Seriously-how dumb do you have to be to correctly refill the oil after change.

Now my BIG MISTAKE was NOT checking their work when i originally got the truck home.  I had assumed since I had talked to the general mgr of the dealership about the original wrong oil mistake, they would do it right on the second try— NOPE.  So lesson for me- after you overpay for any work at a dealership, you have to double check their work. That is so pathetic- If i ran my biz that way, I’d be out of business.  I live in Minneapolis and if anyone wants to know who this incompetent dealership is and the one to avoid, you can PM me. Thank for letting me rant...

The two different dealers I use have plate windows were you can watch. They always pull the stick after they put in the oil. When using bulk oil it has a setting for the oil amount. I would have spent a few minutes researching the oil difference. Maybe reschedule the next week for the free (right) oil change. If they said it was a bad idea then leave it. They would be obligated to provide a loner.

@mark1968, the first time when they didn't have the proper oil and said it was 10 miles down the road, I would have said, cool, I can wait while you go get it and change it out.  Their mess up and they need to fix it.  Maybe that would teach them to make sure the correct product gets used for the application.  If the tech that did the change had to use his personal vehicle to get the proper oil, I think he would think twice the next time he did an oil change.

I have my first oil change coming up soon....
I have all the supplies and will do it myself.
Most dealers use bulk fill oil and you have no real idea what they are putting in your truck.

I could care less if the first one is free.... I don’t need a free headache.
Dealers are required to comply with GM's Dexos requirement. "Bulk fill" oil can't be used if it doesn't fulfill GM's requirements. If you actually get to look at what the dealer is stocking you'll likely find it's Mobil 1, or some other name brand that fulfills GM's requirements.

When I just went through financing my new truck, I had the finance manager pull the "You have to use our 24mth free oil and filter warranty for the rest of the warranty to be valid"... "Any DIY will void your manufacturer warranty" [emoji1787]

Righty then, just give me my truck....

Priority Chevrolet in Chesapeake, VA? They told me the same thing when I told them I was going to install GM Accessories on my own. "You have to let the dealership do it, or the warranty won't be honored." Great! Do it for free, or I'm doing it myself.

That has always been true.  Limited Warranty: GM Accessories installed by an authorized GM Dealer will be covered, parts and labor, for the longer of the following: a) 12 months/12,000 miles (whichever comes first), or b) the balance of the applicable portion of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Ugghh, then on the flip side they can be militant about oil with warranty claims.  I just saw a major claim denied recently due to use of non-factory oil.  I own a high volume shop, we do oil changes and I even stock the same exact bulk Dexos 0w20 that the dealerships here use from the same distributor.  It is our duty to make sure our customers are complying with their manufacturer's recommendations especially when they're warrantied.  Yet because of incompetent people and poor processes at the dealers I feel like I have to change my own oil.   I do it using AC Delco filters and AC Delco oil that I purchase from the dealership (the one I get warranty work done at) on account.  I take the dealer invoice, complete with part numbers and quantities,  plus an invoice from my shop time-stamped and dated including mileage and oil life percentage and staple the filter box top to it all.  Come at me with a warranty denial!  Actually had a lifter drop in my wife's '17 Tahoe and they asked for oil change records, I texted a picture of my binder with one example and that was that.

Not according to federal law. I don't give a [emoji90] about the labor being warranted if I do the work myself. However, they can't void the parts warranty unless I've done something to alter or modify the part in any way. It's the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. And, on accessories.chevrolet.com, when you click on the Warranty button for any given accessory it does not state that warranty only applies if a dealership technician installs it. Saying such amounts to tarradiddle.

    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
