I hit/scraped a guardrail doing about 65. I'm lucky to be unharmed and my truck is totally drivable. I haven't called my insurance as I want to get a couple quotes to pay out of pocket first. I'm not sure what to expect cost wise, any ideas?

I think my front and rear bumper will need to be replaced. I'm not sure if the doors are salvageable. They are badly scraped but don't appear to be dented/deformed. They open, but there's a creak/pop when I do. The front and rear quarter panels are also up for debate. I think the rear will definitely need to be replaced, front might be ok. I would guess 3 - 4 thousand, why don't you want to use your insurance, you pay for it.

Good to hear you are okay and the truck is drivable.

I know my rear bumper on my ‘18 LT ran about $1700 parts, paint, and labor at the dealer. In my case the other guys insurance paid it.

Your looks like it is going to leave a mark in your checking account. It would be cheaper out of pocket to have it done via insurance unless you can source good parts from a junkyard and do it yourself.

If you have proof of another idiot forcing you into the guardrail, you may be able to claim uninsured/underinsured motorist and get out cheaper that way....

I think you are looking at $6k+.

Will the truck go on record as having been in an accident regardless of whether I use my insurance? I don't know if that's a function of insurance companies or auto body shops. I'm just thinking if I pay out of pocket I could help myself in the future if it's not shown as having been in an accident. I guess that's sort of dishonest but it drives totally fine, doesn't even pull to one side or the other. Seems to me it's all cosmetic.

From the pictures it looks like paint transfer from the rail? Will the paint come off? I would look at maybe changing the trucks look. After market bumpers? And a half wrap or something similar. It’s pretty common in Texas. I’ve even seen half bed liner. Full wrap or bed liner.

Here’s an idea, go to auto body shop and get a quote.

Wow never thought of that. Maybe you know of the only one open on Sundays? Thanks!!!!

Today’s Sunday?

why would you want a quote on Sunday when you know they closed, wait until tomorrow when they are open.

I had a deer run into the side of my truck, just behind front wheel, was over $8000 to get repaired.  New trucks are expensive, especially when damage crosses body panels.

I think there could be more damage than you think, possibly with a distorted pillar?

Hard to get an honest answer from a body shop in my area.
the insurance company loves to write a check fast for less than it would actually cost hoping you cash it.
hard to win

please post the amount when you get a quote

about how much is the truck worth right now with no damage?

I thought this too, my sister had just her door replaced and was quoted 1300. That was just the metal shell. All interior components swapped and paint to match. If it’s popping it probably has pillar damage.
