So I contacted my dealer today to make an appointment to Order a 3500 LT Regular cab Duramax. Not new to the GM scene by any means. Just decided it’s time for a new diesel to pull my recreational trailers. For grins I googled lead time for Silverado HD orders and was sent to this thread. I now realize what a ****** show this may become. I feel bad for all you guys honestly. So should I even bother ordering the truck? I find myself asking if it will actually come? Regular cab long bed LT is a dinosaur these days so I won’t get one if I don’t actually order it the way I want it. Give it to me straight? Waste of time or go for it and order it?

They werent making regular cabs for a while just crew cabs.

At this point you got 3 options.

1. Buy used

2. Buy whats on the lot if you can find it

3. Put an order in and wait which could be 3-4 months or could be 6 months or more.  Not sure your going to get a good answer from anybody,  but those options are what you got

Talked with my dealer yesterday afternoon on my 22 order placed January 22.  Chevy has closed orders on 2022 HD trucks.  They will begin taking orders on 23's the first week of July.  Soooo, I will be going through the process of ordering a 23 and starting this enjoyable process again.  That is assuming there isnt a yuge price increase on the 23's.  They are supposed to have access to 23 pricing in the next week or two and we will see what if any impact there is regarding increases.  I know per the website, my current build would be $2500 more, Im hoping that is all that rolls to the 23 MY.  Keep in mind this is all info from my dealer, who knows how accurate this information is.  It doesnt appear that they can get a straight answer from Chevy Corpo either.

GM Trucks (Build Out Final Order Start Up Dates) – Donlen

You might be right based off the link above.  Based off the link above looks like initial orders is already open.  I cant beleive they would close off orders totally for a month.  But who knows

Its hard to say I am working with a dealer that is pretty good, but dealers are dealers.  What they can order and when is often based off their allocations and situation.

Ford superduty orders have been closed since April and will remain closed until October I believe. One of the many reasons I ordered a GMC 3500 in April.

Yeah, I figured those were the options. Not paying 60-70k for a used truck. I’ll put the order in next month for a 2023 and see what happens. I can tell you as a Ford Dealer Master Tech, that is at the dealer everyday, Super duty arrivals are rare. You just never see them come in off the truck. I might have seen a dozen all year. Matters none to me since I don’t want one. Just a strange time. Essentially, all of the dealers have become overpriced used car lots. I don’t think it’s ever going back the other way with adequate dealer inventory. Not with anything that burns fossil fuels anyway…

You might be right.  But Ive been working with EV infrastructure some and the ground level truth is we are ten years out at least on that.  The cars will bounce back, maybe not to what it was, but it should get close.  Still a lot of money out there and we are not quite there yet in cutting back peoples behavior.  At some point with inflation $6 gas and interest rates in cars going up, it should cut off the appetite.  My guess is car sales for new will crater in the next 3-6months, which wont help immediately but should help the manufactures catch up

Don't count on them catching up, they don't want to.  The goal is to make gas powered trucks/suvs so expensive and hard to get, you will beg them for an electric vehicle.

Yeah thats typical republican banter.  Which upfront Im telling you  I dont think EV is the way,  not trying to make it political..

The reality GM or Ford just wants to sell cars they could care less if its EV or gas.  Like I said the reality for EV is we are tens years out and people arent going to keep up with the high priced crap for that long.   Electric car sales are 3% of sales you are not scaling that to even 50% overnight, and the reality is making the cars is relatively easy the infrastructure to support it will be another decade.  Gas cars arent going anywhere in the short term.  The market will drop on the autos soon enough and when it comes back people wont be clamoring for EV when there is not charging stations,  EVs  lose 40% of their range under 20 degrees and while towing.  Working with this stuff and talking to manufactures HD trucks are 5 years out.  GM is losing to toyota and ram in some areas and all automakers sales are down,  there going to want to sell gas stuff,  dont believe in the EV hype.

What would help us all out is really people just need to stop buying stuff

Little update - I C/P that Donlen sheet and emailed it to my sales gal and asked her if there was any validity to this and that, if my order doesn't get picked up for the 23MY I'm going to say fk it and go a different direction if they can't give us some kind of information. Well, good timing because their rep was in yesterday and they got him in a room with the door closed and and said "WTF is going on? We need an answer" She said my order was the #1 priority for trucks they have and what's going on - So she went outside to call me so she could speak frankly LOLOLOL!! and boy did she ever tell me like it is with no one listening.

So that Donlen thing, is for "fleet" orders - which GM stopped during covid - she said they can't/aren't building fleet orders so it isn't exactly what's going on, but she said the dates are kind of close. And the updated display screen is a big hang up on 2500/3500's makeover that is delayed to 2024MY. They are prioritizing the screens for the 1500's because it's all Google based and you have to pay for a 3 year subscription for it to even work and it's another $800 which those customers all like - I said I don't care about that in fact don't want it.

Anyway, at least it was nice to hear someone express concern who I feel is fighting for me - I told her, everyone gets it, stuff is tight, but it's 10 months exactly I placed that order and someone somewhere, knows something. Just tell people what's going on but this keeping everyone in the dark is bullsht. She totally agreed.

So anyhow~ still more hope and hang in there's and she promises one of these days she's going to call me with good news. I'm easy man, but you got to throw me a bone now and then so I don't feel like I'm some forgotten putz in limbo.

FWIW, I looked at FOrd, Dodge and Toyota, tried to build something similar and I couldn't do it - that's when it hit me "Chevy really does have a model lineup and options to build something no one else does, not even close" ... I knew I should'nt have put my build-your-own photo as wallpaper on all my computers, even my phone screen. It's burned into my brain ... LOL!

Good info.  My dealer who is normally really good on this has gone silent for over a week.  Really I am not in rush as what is the rush. Around these parts no answer sort of means either no, or were working on it.  So whatever that means.

Crazy that google would be a pay subscription in a truck, unless they mean a pay for cell integration & My Chevrolet App.  All the google stuff on a phone is free.

I'm currently paying a monthly fee for OnStar/AT&T cell service for the truck to use as a hotspot & the My Chevrolet App while on the road.

Ahh, yeah, for the full function suite.  It's like the Lexa thing. My rep said "who needs to go "Google, turn my lights on at home I think we've mastered how to turn our lights on. And then, you have to buy and install the home system, for it to work" I get it, younger gens did all that Star trek stuff. Too many video games, but whatever. Some will buy it for sure. She told me yesterday a guy comes in with a 2022 High Country, 2000 miles, traded it on a brand new order came in with the new screen - SO it happens.

It's not the dealers man, they are getting so hosed over being in the dark - First thing is - Does the dealer have an allocation slot for what you want - Second thing is - When does GM open up an ordering schedule for that particular allocation/config. My deal is a reg cab/LB and that's what has killed me. It's all in the magic combination of what they have (most) of the pieces to make at any given time. Just like this Donlen thing, no fleet builds - sht ton of fleet orders would be for reg cabs so easy to pop one in for me.

had I known that, I could have maybe swung for a 4dr. I need back doors like a hole in the head. But I'm in a very small segment of truck buyers.

But really, the dealers don't know squat anymore than you can sleuth out on the net - Now, how different dealers, salespeople deal with this? that's where you have to put some faith or not. As many stories I've heard of being told the straight sht, the same amount I've heard making promises that were total bullsht - Pretty much like any other day in life, separating the truth from the bs.  Trust your gut - These dealers don't know sht until it happens and they don't believe anything they are told, only what they see happen. GM are the clowns here that must put "Top Secret" on every plan they come up with.

Not blaming the dealer is what it is.  I have an allocation I got one about 3 weeks ago, but from what I told for a few reasons it wasnt picked up.

My dealer is pretty good at least the guy I am working with I have bought a few vehicles over the last few years with him including one i built, and he is the guy that builds and orders them in the system so that is a plus.  But in general most of these dealers are worthless these days,  you listen to peoples stories and laugh sort of at the line of crap they are being fed.  TBH I think you have about 10% of dealers that are good,  another 60-70% are there just to sell something they dont their product at all,  the last 20-30% is typical salesman trash attitude where it's whatever they say its about getting your money and will distort the truth or process to get there.

Your story is definitely discouraging. Especially since I’m wanting a Reg cab long bed Duramax LT. I too have no use for 4 doors anymore. My last four trucks have been Crew cabs. My dealer says that they will let me know when ordering for the 2023 opens up next month and if they will have an allocation. I’m fine driving my current truck till next summer. I’m in the middle of building a new house and 4000 square foot garage currently anyway. So I’ve got plenty to keep me busy in the mean time. I just find it strange that everyone is putting orders in at their dealers and wondering if their truck will ever actually show up. That’s really bad for business…
