Good morning, I just picked up a new 2021 Silverado 1500 LTZ with the 6.2l in Summit White. It is a sweet truck and I’m loving it so far! The only issue that I’ve had is the wireless CarPlay seems a little unreliable. I had several times yesterday where it would lose its connection, or the streaming would become choppy (similar to when a CD would skip back in the old days). Anyways, I thought I’d see if anyone else has had any issues and found a solution. Thanks in advance!

Also got a 2021 Silverado, I haven't had issues about it disconnecting but I do have the issue where my music sounds choppy. What I've figured out so far is that if I leave the truck with my phone and come back, the choppy music starting happening. There is two ways that I've figured out how to fix it; 1) restarting the truck or 2) switching to radio for like 30 seconds and then back to carplay (works most of the time).

I'm taking the truck into the dealer on Monday for rear leaking window problem and I told them to check out the carplay as well. So I'll hopefully have some more info mid/late next week.

Awesome! Hopefully there is some simple fix. I’ll try your suggestions as well.

I’m struggling with this a lot.  It’s gotten so bad that I’ve turned my wireless in my phone off and am only using CarPlay over USB.  The connectivity seems to drop no matter where I am, out in the country, in the middle of a big city, it makes listening to music very irritating. I’m going to ask my dealership about it.  Not Happy

Wireless Carplay and Andoid Auto doesn't require a hotspot data plan (it uses the phone internet connectivity) but it does require wifi (dual band radio) and GPS system in the car. It uses Bluetooth to connect phone and some audio, but needs to do the screen projection via wifi and can't run the GPS and wifi radios at the same time on the phone, so it uses the car's GPS for navigation functions.

Audio is very choppy.   The issue is the wifi.   It appears to be 2.4 Ghz which is the same Freq. as bluetooth.   WAY too much interference.

My issue is... it turns down the ringer on my phone when I get in the truck.   SUCKS.   When I get out of the truck I need to remember to turn the ringer back up.

I'm just glad to hear it's not only me having this issue. Had to resort to turning off WiFi and using USB for a long road trip where I was reliant on Waze, but CarPlay kept dropping the connection.  Super annoying.  Also seems to work fine for a while, but once it starts cutting out, it happens a lot.

I had the same issue with wireless Android Auto in my 2021 RST.  I just use the USB cable now.  Besides, the wireless just sucks the battery dry pretty quickly.

I bet this feature will be improved with the new Infotainment in the 2022s.

My wife's UConnect 5 in our 2021 Pacifica is fantastic with CarPlay.

I guess I shouldn’t feel so bad I didn’t get wireless CarPlay on my 2019.   I like the idea of the convenience of wireless.  However, I also like the idea of having a fully topped-up battery (using the USB) at the end of my travels and step out of the truck.

^^^I agree with this. The only thing wireless CarPlay has the advantage over wired is convenience.

    • Seats matter a lot.  I would start there - good advise here.  I had a 2018 LT Colorado before my 2026 LT Silverado, and the seats are so much better in the new one it's not even a contest.  That was one thing I always hated about the Colorado and I owned two of them spanning 10 years - but I did it so I could park in the garage mainly.  Now I have a much larger property and a huge barn so I have plenty of parking options and a full size is more useful for maintaining the property and current hobbies as well.  I wasn't evenb thinking about the seats as part of the reason for the move to the Silverado, but after two back to back 700mile road trips I am sold on the LT seats w/ leather 100%.  The other LT features are also nice - one thing I really like is the power rear window on the back window by the bed.  And the lighting in the bed is also very nice to have - I doubt that comes on the lower models.  Power tailgate - also quite useful - it's a heavy slug!  What else - I could take or leave the screen - but heated seats and steering wheel and cruise control on the steering wheel is very useable - I would never want to live without that.  Even the colorados had that.
    • I think the ship has sailed on the fuel injection type - everything is getting direct now.  Does it help with mpg?  Not really and nobody buying a HD truck really cares anyway.  But that is what it is at this point.  Piston rings is something they may well adjust over time to get them right.
    • I don’t have detailed measurement data, but this past March we were hiking and camping in Death Valley and the Las Vegas area when this Spring’s heat wave hit with 105 plus temperatures and our 2021 L8T system kept our crew cab as cool as we wanted it (68F setting) with no trouble. Fan flows on auto once stabilized were fairly low. It seems like the OP’s system should be performing better.
    • Yes that's correct on the route to Durango - we just followed what google maps recommended.  That is quite the pass btw - very steep going back down.  I didn't even need manual mode - I just used cruise control and set the truck at 50 I think when it was a 45 posted speed and for the most part it just held it there by keeping it in the right gear - everyonce in awhile there is a sharper turn that I just braked for - but it was pretty smooth going down it on both sides.  Amazing views around there for sure - we had no real time to stop, were on the clock for a set-up time, but we did stop in some 2 horse town somewhere a couple hours oustide of Durango in the middle of nowhere for burgers.   And yes - lots up up and downs on the Durango trip but I think it's a big difference going 70 vs. going 80-83 with the aero in play with these big trucks.  Even the much smaller Colorado does reallt bad on gas going up over 70, I think I would have been lucky to get 18 on that trip in the Colorado honestly.  The full size is definately more comfy for a long road trip too, and the amount of gear we had would have meant two vehicles if I still had the Colorado.
    • I'm not sure what my temps were, but it would take my 2024 about 4-5 miles of driving before my AC started cooling. They replaced my compressor under warranty.
