Hey all,

As I said before I’m newer to the truck scene. I wanted to see what mileage everyone is changing things at...here’s what I got so far

tires- every 80k?

suspension - 100k

brakes- 80k

plugs - 125k(I know gm says 160k)

Synthetic Oil every 8-10k

tranny fluid- every 40k

is this typical?

First 3 are usually done based on the wear of the part at the time. Everyone drives differently so those parts will wear differently.

All figures in miles.

Doubt you'll get 80k from your tires. Condition of tires and handling will tell you. Visually inspect them

Brakes you may get more than 80, depending on how you drive. Change when they show the signs. On my 2004, I'm still rocking original at 140k. I know many on here change before 80k. Again visually inspect them

Synthetic oil with a quality filter, generally I'd say people may stick with 5k - 7.5k max. 5k is more my preference. Some prefer 3k

Tranny fluid, I'd say you're spot on. 50k

Don't forget diff fluids.

Plenty of other opinions  will be posted, be patient

My maintenance on my trucks were at the high end. Lots of highway miles. Leaving my 14 GMC out I only put 28K before trade in. My mileage usually was 50-60K a year average. Since 91 a new one every two years average. Oil was extended 25k, filter half that. Amsoil. Transmission drained through the lines to the cooler. Amsoil one and done. Same with rears ends. Radiator flushed per manual. Brakes usually 80-100K,some never. All trucks got modified. Some just programmers. Some S/C. All carried stuff, some pulled, gas and diesel. If I was forced to buy new now and drive those miles. I would probably change the oil more often. Unless I bought a Toyota. Non Frankenstein engine. Tires usually BFGs high ply, load rating for my off road use. Quite on highway. Usually last my use with the truck. I has a aggressive but non abusing foot. All had loud exhaust and Amsoil drop in air filters. Or modified induction. I liked the noise until I didn’t. Just recently.

I'm taking this is all in KM no Miles?

Tires will depend on inflation and rotation.  You can go 30k on a set, you can go 60k on a set.

Not sure what you would need to do suspension wise at 100,000km/60,000 miles.  Outer tie rods have grease fittings so do those every oil change.  Ball joints are sealed, replace them when they are going bad.

Brakes, again a wear related replacement situation.  If you never clean the caliper slides and pins out every year, you will get less life out of them.

Transmission fluid.  40,000km/25,000mi is a touch excessive.  GM severe use is every 45,000mi/72,000km on factory Dexron 6 which I believe is a synthetic blend.  Severe use is towing and or extreme climates so if its single digits or colder in the winter and then you still see 80-90 in the summer.

Plugs ever 100,000mi/160,000km.

Oil would be by the OLM percentage (anything 20% or less its time to change) or by a mileage you are comfortable with or by used oil analysis examination to see how good the oil can go for on a change.

Good to know about the outer tire rods..noted. I wanted to lower my truck and everyone was telling me that you normally need to do suspension every 100k or so. I do use it as a work truck but basically have 200-1000lbs in it max. I never tow with it.

tires, it’s hard to say..I’ve had some rub very bad when I lowered it that only lasted a few weeks.

I thought oil was every 10k. I’ll do every 7-8 now.

ive also had a couple injectors go on me at like 130k. A couple sensors recently as well. But that could’ve been from a cracked hose connector on my cold air intake. K&N shipped me one for free no questions asked 👍

just wondering if my truck is a lemon or if they all require maintenance as frequently. I guess I’ll suck it up lols. Seems like it’s often because I put about 50k/year on it

OLM on my 15 is 7500 regardless of how hard I drive it.
Tires are Michelin and are rated @ 70000 but usually get 50000  miles.

Still on factory plugs at 200000 and get 18-19 mpg on highway at 75.  (I dont drive 75 often though.). Also not saying that is right but it is where I am at with my truck.

Also, I use full synthetic and Wix or ac Delco filters and go 10000 on changes. I used To have the oil tested and 10000 was always good so I have Not tested in a while.

Brakes made it to 165000 but I rarely pull a trailer and my daily drive was 225 miles, mostly highway.

jusy my experience.

My plugs were fine at 125kms but I wanted to be a keener. Just want it running as good as possible. I drive a wee bit spirited so my mileage isn’t the best. I also have about 250lbs of wood and woofers plus the added weight of the chrome 24’s. My brakes squeal like pigs at 80kms. Not sure what the mileage on the pv brakes are compared to the regular wt pads and rotors.

my oil had always been golden. 👍

I think it really just depends...like, your suspension. I almost never go on a mileage point on suspension , I just inspect and replace as necessary. Same for tires and brakes.

Oil, I don't go much over 5,000 miles. Tranny around every 40,000 miles. Same with diffs and transfer case. Plugs, every 100,000 miles. Undercoat at least once a year. Wax the paint once every three months. Rotate the tires every 5,000 miles or so and get the alignment checked once a year.

This^^is just what I've always done and it seems to work.

Tires, like stated will depend on many things.  I got 70k out of my Michelin LTX MS2's  But 40k on Continentals on our Suburban.  Driving style and road conditions and city vs hwy make a difference.

Suspension, I don't mess with it until something needs to be replaced. Again driving terrain and such come into play here.

Brakes, well I was lucky on my 2002 Silverado.  Still had the original pads on the front brakes. The rear got replaced at 120k due to the R/R caliper sticking wearing out the pads.

Plugs i change out at 100k.  Something that just makes me feel better.  I know of some that go way longer with no issues.

Oil changes.  This is one that is up to the individual for the most part.  I go by used oil analysis to let me know how far I can go.  Right now I have been going 15k with AMSOIL Signature Series but the last two UOA's showed that I need to back it down so I'm going to test at 10K and see where I stand.

Transmission fluid change is right on.  Keep it changed out at 50k miles and life will be good for your transmission.

I see we are working kilometers 😉

Tires. 80k km is just under 49,709. You don't say what tire style A/T won't last as long as H/T but like said several other times your driving and maintenance habits have a world to do with this. I just retired a set of still fully useable (by tread wear) Bridgestone H/T at 125,000 miles as they dated out. I'm a maintenance fanatic and drive easy only on paved roads. So...

Suspension. Also a wear item influenced by driving style and maintenance. Replace on inspection and keep it aligned. Once a year minimum. Off road? Twice a year.

Brakes also a wear item based on use. There are guys that use up a set in 30,000 miles (48,000 km) and then there is a long list of fellows over 150,000 miles with plenty left. (250,000 km).

Plugs: Iridium plugs will be fine for 100,000 miles (160,000 km) in a motor that uses little oil. Don't forget wires.

Motor oil. Hum.... There is nothing on the market I would run more than 5,000 miles (8,000 Km) and most of them not over 3,000 miles (5,000 Km) but that is what I do.

Trans, Book suggest every 45,000 miles (72,000 km). Did my first one at 50,000 miles (80K km) and it was well past it's expiration date so I've shortened that. I do not drive hard. 40,000 km would be prudent IF you continue to use the OEM fluid and retain the thermostat. IHMO. If you tow or haul heavy I'd consider it a must.

I expect you will continue to receive advice on this topic. It is a hot button but remember it is YOUR eyes on equipment and YOU that is operating it. So your boots on the ground doing the assessments.

    • Here's the second UOA on my 22 Wrangler with the Ecodiesel. This has 5k miles on AMSOIL Signature Series DEO 5w-40. The first one was dealer installed oil, no clue what it was, the second is what AMSOIL recommended, European FS 5w-40, Most of the Ecodiesel world is showing great results using the European MS 5w-40, I figured I would see how the DEO works. This is using an Ecoguard oil filter. It's my understanding this engine likes to shed aluminum.  We will see. So far I don't think this is too bad.
    • I'm surprised nobody seems to offer a solution like the start/stop device I put in my new truck. Remembers my setting when shutdown. And while it still starts up in start/stop, it stores/evaluates what mode it was in when shut down and will change it whithin a second or 2 of startup. It'd be nice to have something like that for the DRLs.
    • 2015 Sierra 1500 here. Leaks from the sunroof to front driver side and soaks carpet. How do I fix this? Thanks!
    • I will be doing that for sure, but I need to solve who has/ where I can find a bidirectional scan tool that will support OBD 1.5. I'm kicking myself because I ebay'ed a Snap On MT2500 that I didn't think I'd ever need anymore. D'oh!! I'd rather not buy another, so I'll contact a few local shops to see if they have one and how much they'd want to do the procedure. I'd rather have the ability to do it myself... I wish there was a modern tool that could do it all, but I'd have no idea what to buy.   The theory with the pulled timing is that it mimics a rich condition. The delayed spark causes incomplete burn and the O2 sensor picks up low oxygen levels. That's interpreted as a rich condition so the PCM pulls fuel and that shows up in the deeply negative fuel trims.
    • An ultra wealthy man had the most beautiful daughter. But, there was a problem. Everything she touched would melt in her hands. No matter what, Metal, Wood, Stone. Anything she touched would melt. She could not feed herself. Because of this, men were afraid of her. Nobody would dare marry her. Her father was despaired. What could he do to help his daughter? He consulted doctors, scientists and anybody who could solve this problem. Finally one of them said, "If your daughter touches one thing that does not melt in her hands, she will be cured." He was overjoyed and came up with a plan. The next day, he held a competition. Any man who could bring his daughter an object that would not melt in her hands would be given billions of dollars to marry her. Three extremely intelligent and handsome young men took up the challenge. The first brought a very heavy steel rod, But alas, when the she touched it, it completely melted in a matter of seconds. He sadly went away. The second brought a beautiful diamond, knowing diamonds were one of the hardest substance in the world and would not melt. But alas, once she held it in her hand, it melted. He too was sent away disappointed. So now, there was one left He was very nervous & sweating. He approached the daughter & said, “put your hand in my pants pocket and feel what is in there." She did exactly what he asked. She felt something very hard. She held it in her hand, squeezing it as hard as she could. It did not melt & remained extremely hard. Her father was overjoyed. Everybody was overjoyed. She was finally cured. Nothing never, ever melted in her hand again. They married and they both lived happily ever after, raising a wonderful family. Question: What was in the the groom’s pants pocket??? Answer below ↓ M&Ms of course! They melt in your mouth, not in your hand. What on earth were you thinking?
