I took the clamp off and just use the rubber cap.  Maybe the engineers know what they’re doing, but I like a cap over the opening.

 This is known in the trade as a "Jim Cap". Any plumbing supply house will have them as well.

The Jim Cap is $3.50.  Curious how much the genuine GM part is.

 

ETA:  So, I looked it up.  MSRP $40.  On sale at the first place I looked for $22.  I think I’m good with the Jim Cap.

Just picked this up this morning at HD. Fits great and the price is right. Thank you for posting.

Next trip to HD, pick up a rare earth magnets pack and super glue one to the Fernco cap face and one to the door to hang the cap during fuel up.

Neat idea but I just set it on my tonneau cover until I’m done fueling.  I would think even with just the bed rail you’d be fine.  And, if it gets lost, it won’t be a lot of money to lose.
