Anyone been successful getting a dealership to accept Gm Supplier discount recently? My wife's company is a supplier. I have the authorization code. Looking at a gas burner 2500 which doesn't sell as fast a the Diesels. My sales guy says he doesn't know if they will honor it with the shortage. It will save me about $3500 on the truck. I didn't think the supplier discount took money out of the pocket of the dealer.

I placed an order for a '22 GMC 3500HD (not picked up yet as the dealer is waiting for allocations) and my sales guy didn't bat an eye.  I would have your guy confirm if they will accept it or not and if the answer is no then I would look elsewhere.

So there is one discount dealers are supposed to take that is the GM Employee discount(short of corvette, and sometimes other offerings). With that said that doesnt mean some dont and I dont know if there us much of  a method to police it.  All other discounts can be at the whim of the dealer but not taking them is frowned upon by GM and in the long run is bad business.

But yes GM reimburses that amount so in essence when a dealer sells a car with a discount they are getting full price, the customer gets a discount and GM gets a sale, so it works out.   Right now some dealers are marking things up and making more money, even more than if they took discounts,  so basically greed.  I would find a dealer that took it and tell that dealer to pound sand.

My brother had his truck totaled in an accident about 6 weeks ago. We were trying to find him a new GM truck using the employee discount. He called several dealers in California and they pretty much laughed at him when he asked if they were honoring the employee discount. They told him they were getting as much as $10k over sticker for HD trucks.  Now, this was for existing or incoming inventory - not a new order.  That could be an entirely different story. Dealers have the discretion to accept employee discount deals or not. I didn't know until this experience whether that was across the board or if they could pick and choose depending on model.  As stated, some models (like Corvette) are excluded entirely by GM. Just about a year ago, I had no trouble using the employee discount to purchase my truck right off the lot.

He ended up finding a RAM 3500 at MSRP plus some dubious dealer-added equipment and felt lucky to get it.

See this is where us with employee discount need to hold these dealers accountable.  Yes they are supposed to take employee discount its not a discretion.  The few exemptions are the corvette and sometimes on new offerings.  Now I am talking about the GM Employee discount not the other stuff out there.  I have called GM before on this and thats what they told me, they also told me to call them if a dealer does not take it.

Here in Michigan a dealer will go out of business if they don't accept GM discount. Get your vehicle from out of state and have it shipped to you. Those dealers are giving you the run around for no reason at all.

Found a dealer that accepted. had a truck in transit and pulled the trigger. They let me stack the Costco $1000 rebate as well.

This is snipped from the GM Employee Discount Rules and Guidelines ... and is consistent with what my brother ran into when trying to buy a truck off the lot from several dealerships.

"Dealership participation is voluntary. To determine a specific dealership’s willingness to sell vehicles under the
Program, the Participant or Sponsored Purchaser should contact the dealership directly. If a dealership is not
willing to sell a vehicle through the Program, the Participant or Sponsored Purchaser may contact or visit
another dealership."

That must have changed.  Odd because had a friend just go through this.  Called the GM program number and they were very interested in knowing the why on all of this.  Friend came back to the dealer stated he talked to GM, and they changed their tune.

When I bought mine in March nobody except Autonation would accept Supplier, they said it was company policy to accept. I obviously bought from Autonation.

I bought my ‘21 AT4 weekend before last and was able to get a Houston dealer to give me the Supplier Discount pricing.  That was pretty easy honestly, but getting the cost of all the dealer add-on stuff was a pain.  I eventually got them down from $1895 to $250 on that.

I did talk with probably close to 20 dealers between Houston, Dallas, Austin and even Louisiana and no one else would honor it at the time.

Beck and Masten North on 1960.  I didn’t think anyone would after speaking to several dealers, but the salesman I spoke immediately said they would when I asked about it.  I went to look there because they had more on the lot than anyone, and was planning to order one (most dealers told me they would honor it on an ordered truck) after deciding on color, etc.   With rebates ($3000 from GM and $500 for using GM Financial), I ended right at $7k under MSRP before TTL and doc fees.

Shame.  They said they would do the supplier discount so i went in to sign some stuff to lock in a 2022 2500hd they have on order.  But they wanted $1000 non-refundable deposit (really?  you should hope i don't buy it so you can sell it to the next guy for more if they are so rare and selling so fast), and an extra $1900 for the BS add-ons they say they "have to do" for all their vehicles.  So instead of selling an $84k truck now they rather hold out for $1900.  wouldn't even let me order one without adding their dealer "package".  I'm looking to buy the refresh when it comes in 2024 or so also, so they missed out on 2 trucks.  Oh well.

I'll just make my list longer and longer of dealers that want to keep doing this BS, and wasting my time.  They don't tell me any of that over the phone or through all the emails, just wait until i'm there and like ok sign this which says we get to charge you blah blah $$$ for some stuff you don't need or want.  Thanks but no thanks.  I'll keep buying from the ones that that aren't trying to scam every customer out of every extra cent they can get.  So that list might be short.  ha.

They tried the $1900 addon crap with me too.  I ended up giving them $250 which was more than I wanted to for wheel locks, a bit of clear film on door edges and behind door handles, paint and fabric protectant (sure....) and some kinda gps vehicle tracker/theft protection crap (working with that company now to get it removed).  So my total deal was Supplier Price less $3500 rebates ($3000 customer cash and $500 for GM Financial financing) + $250.  I gave in on the $250 because I wanted the truck, and wasn’t sure when I’d be able to find another I wanted at a similar deal.

    • My brother has a 2007 Avalanche with afm 5.3. It`s got 176,000 miles. Runs like a clock. Never been apart. Co worker has a 2010 Tahoe with afm 5.3. 230,000 miles. Never been apart. Runs like a clock. So, even though cyl deac is a weak spot, they can go the distance.   BUT, these engines had the oil changed regularly, AND had 5w30 as spec. I wonder if they would have lasted this far on 0w20? I`ll bet not.
    • I certainly could be wrong but I hear of pickups far newer than that 2007 cutoff which may not be going to the wrecker but are having engine work done and be that a reman engine or new engine or trying to repair the existing engine. Some of it would be design issues as per the cylinder deactivation system that GM has and one of those lifters wiping out the cam and the question of oil changes moving the needle or not on that whole mess, or in the case of Ford pickup engines that have the long timing chains and wearing them out and the roller followers and phasers and some of that certainly goes back to oil change intervals. But in those various cases the truck has all sorts of life left in it and so the unfortunate owner and may be original owner or used market owner that is pouring money into repairs so the truck is not seeing the salvage yard yet but damage is happening by infrequent oil changes. A friends son had bought a 2018 I think it is half ton GM and it had some sort of extended or used dealer warranty on it and of course the lifter issue bites and its rattling and so the dealer had to swallow the bill and was at least 7000.00 and I think they only replaced what they felt they had to replace so yeah, I can see that being a ticking time bomb in the not too distant future. Would frequent oil changes cure all these engineering "marvels", probably not but some engine designs have shown that they do much better if the oil is changed a lot more often then if the manufacturer service claims are followed. New trucks cost so much that there is an incentive to keep the existing truck on the road by repairing.
    • get a good code reader, and find out what problems the truck has noticed by reading codes. cheap ones can only get basic engine codes, you may want to get one that can get codes from all the computers in your truck.
    • This is sort of my point, salvage yards aren't overflowing with all these 'poorly' maintained trucks - excellent/good/servicable condition otherwise, salvaged only as a result of a bad engine from poor oil change regiment.    In my area, there are no 2007 to newer gm trucks/suvs in any salvage yards. A few are in the 'recyclers' with very obvious reasons for being there - wrecked.
    • Stabilitrack was a stability control, traction control system, that functioned independently from the transfer case.   Z-71 has nothing to do with the transfer case or differential.   If it does have an AWD system, my memory recalls this being specific to the Denali trim, converting won't be as simple as swapping out mechanical parts like differentials and transfer cases. It will require reprogramming at a minimum. Long story short, not likely worth it.   Pulling a fuse, may disable the AWD system, it might also prevent any other transfer case functions.   However, the AWD case was generally based on the same transfer case you refer to in the 2006 Suburban. If it still has a 4-High and 4-Low where the transfer case locks and splits power 50-50 front to rear, what are you gaining by changing anything? A true-rear wheel drive only, what good will that serve? Not enough to go through the trouble of changing out all the parts.    Generally, all the factory systems will handle a 33" tire and re-gearing. Probably a 35" tire too, if you aren't driving like a caveman. If 35" tires are in the plan...   If you do plan on driving like a caveman or are fully committed to 35" tires, an entire re-think of the build is probably in order. Starting with square one, an IFS front end isn't going to be the best starting point for 35's and caveman driving.
